Sweet Cedar went home yesterday after completing our 3 week on leash obedience course.
We fell in love with her personality and her sweet demeanor.

Major goes home today after being with us for 6 weeks for an off leash board and train course.
He came to us with a lack of confidence and only knowing sit.
Today he goes home knowing all his commands (sit, down, stay, off, place, heel, come, and leave it)
and gained confidence in himself, as well as trust with his humans.
While I will miss him (and everyone at Merrills Detector Dog Services) I’m excited to see him grow with his owner.

The time has come for us to move forward with our business.
Starting this week, we will no longer be offering doggie daycare or day-trains.

With that being said we have taken a step forward and I have accepted a job offer working for Merrills Detector Dog Services.
We have partnered together and will still be offering Board and Train Obedience at their location in Smithland.
I am very excited for this new chapter in our life, and we can’t wait to continue to serve our friends.

I don’t personally know this young lady … but I had this sent to me a while back and I’ve shared it on several occasions What she’s talking about here can be broadly spread over and applied to all dog breeds
1. It states what I’ve preached forever …. We as trainers cannot do but so much with an inferior product …. Lacking drive and desires etc…. As well as mental issues that come from poor breedings
2. Normal folks can’t manage certain types of dogs and certain behaviors
3. If you want a good dog stop keeping those breeding mediocrity in business and wondering why they’re not the same as someone else’s pup from the same breed
4. If you’re not gonna work it at the level it demands then don’t let it waste away and/or be prepared to pay a trainer …. And just so you know … a few months at a trainer isn’t enough
5. Dog trainers can’t always work miracles on dogs that lack talent, or have genetic issues tied to their mental state…. Anxious, nervous, fearful, overly aggressive.

These past few weeks have been busy with our recent obedience graduates and doggy daycare clients.
We currently have 1 opening for doggy daycare on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays.
We love all of our clients and are so happy that the weather is getting nicer to spend more time outside.

With the recent tornado warning, we wanted to inform everyone that when severe or significant weather occurs, all clients are secured in kennels until weather conditions improve. This is part of our safety plan to ensure everyone is in a safe area and can be reunited with their family as safely and quickly as possible.

Socializing is not just meeting new people or dogs.
So much goes into raising a “neutral” dog.

You can’t just “throw” them into a situation.
Socializing is a slow process because you must be able to read the body language to know when is “enough” and what is too much.

If you don’t know how to properly work with your puppy/dog through these lessons, please use the assistance of a professional trainer.

Puppy socialisation is NOT just about playing with other dogs.

In fact, too much uncontrolled exposure to other dogs can cause so many unintended consequences.

If you have a puppy, make sure you try to work on ALL aspects of socialisation, as listed in the bottom graphic.

Dixie came to our house for the first time about a year ago. She has been a joy in our home for sleep-overs, play dates, and cuddles.
Today Dixie and her family are moving to Florida, and we want to wish Dixie and her owners safe travels and wish them all the best in their new endeavors.
We will definitely miss you all!!
