There is a new canine upper respiratory illness that is going around at the moment. It looks like kennel cough but doesn’t respond to the kennel cough treatments. The veterinary community is unsure if it is bacterial or viral. We do not have much information about this illness.

Use your best judgment when going to dog parks and to daycare.

"They look, sound and everything about them feels like it should be a kennel cough type of disease, but they're just not responding like a normal kennel cough would," South Des Moines Veterinary Clinic veterinarian Melissa Beyer said of the sick dogs.

Having your pet microchipped is super important! I have seen so many pets returned to their owners after being lost. A microchip is the size of a grain of rice and placed under the skin of your pet. When scanned at a vet or a shelter, it shows a number and the number allows the vet to contact you in order to reunite you with your lost pet. All of my pets are microchipped! Meet Maple!

Maple is a brand new adoption from Operation Kindness. She is part pitbull and part pointer. But she is 100 percent cute. After being removed from a severe neglect situation, she is a little shy in her new home. Dogs need to be shown grace and compassion while they work through trauma. She loves her new owner and her comfy bed.

Maple is currently undergoing intense heartworm treatment at this time. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers while she recovers.

Meet Ivy.
She is a brindle pittbull and she is exceptionally special. She loves to play with her toys and her ball. Her favorite activity is watching people from the front window and it is a full time job. I fell in love the first time I saw her and loved every moment taking care of her.

It’s been pretty quiet on this page lately but it has been super busy at our house.

This is Ethan and Ellie! Ethan is a lab/German Shepard mix and is super sweet. He was a little cautious at first. However, he turned into my best friend after a few treats.

Ellie is a multipoo princess that loves to give kisses all the time. She showered me with extra love the entire time that I was visiting them.

It was a pleasure to take care of them.
