He did it again! Bubba won the Scurry at Moy, with a time of 23.36 seconds, also took home the trophy for fastest dog of the day. Not bad for 7½ years old. 💪🏼

Well its been a while... we forget we have a page on here! 🤦‍♀️ We better start posting some things again!

Here's a little picture update, father and son (Bubba and Blu). Blu is now nearly 20 months old.. how time has flown!

Maggie was out for a little training session today, slowly building her strength back up (13 babies will take its time to settle down!), and she was so happy to be out, one-on-one.. not seen a wiggle bum and a smile like this for a long time!

Rules For Owning a Gun Dog

1. Spend time with them each day. You are their everything.

2. Don’t hide your excitement, let them see the kid in you.

3. Your expectations of a bird dog are high but their expectations of an owner are higher.

4. Don’t sleep on it take them to the vet.

5. Go hunting with them at least one time just the two of you.

6. Tell your new friends about your old dogs.

7. Their falses aren’t the only ones in the field.

8. Judge your hunting friends by how they treat their dogs.

9. Always stop to pet them.

10. Stop walking, sit down you will see how much they love you. Enjoy it.

11. Treat puppies like puppies and treat your 12 year old like he still is one.

12. Know when to retire them and give them everything they want. They gave you everything they had.

13. Have patience when they are hard of hearing...it’s the birds fault.

14. Show your boys that there’s reasons to be gentle in this world. Bird dogs are just one of them.

15. You helped her down the stairs when she was young now help her up them when she is old.

16. Take the picture every single damn time. It’s worth it.

17. Enjoy their determination even when it’s not after a bird.

18. When it’s time to say goodbye don’t leave his side. Hold him. He knows what’s happening and he’s happy you are with him.

19. Remember them, visit the places that made you both so happy. Think about her while you stop walking and sit down with her daughter on an October afternoon.

20. Understand that you can not fill the hole they left in your heart but remember them and they will be with you every step of the way.

Its normally p**p bags we take home on our morning walk, but Bubba spotted something laying in the field, sent him to retrieve it and we walk home with a goose too!

Might be the end of the season, but he never switches off!

Why is Bakers dog food such a poor brand to feed your dog? Well the following ingredients list may explain why...

E320 - has been found to be tumour-producing when fed to rats. In human studies it has been linked with urticaria, angioedema and asthma
E321 - banned for use in food in Japan, Romania, Sweden, and Australia. The US has barred it from being ...used in infant foods. So bad McDonalds have voluntarily eliminated it from their products.
E310 - Banned from children's foods in the US because it is thought to cause the blood disorder methemoglobinemia
E172 - Banned in Germany
E132 - Can cause skin sensitivity, a rash similar to nettle rash, itching,
nausea, high blood pressure and breathing problems. One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Norway.
E102 - TARTRAZINE - A trial on 76 children diagnosed as hyperactive, showed that tartrazine provoked abnormal behaviour patterns in 79% of them
E110 - Sunset Yellow has been found to damage kidneys and adrenals when fed to laboratory rats. It has also been found to be carcinogenic when fed to animals
E104 - One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Australia, Japan, Norway and the United States.
E171 - Banned in Germany
E153 - Banned as a food additive in the United States of America. Suspected as a carcinogenic agent.

Tonight we had a mini training session with Miss Maggie. Her attention span is shorter than a goldfish, so once she starts acting up we move on to something else, and tonight that was heel work.

Slowly managing the one handed lead work with her, and tonight we focused on distractions, mainly wind and her fascination with blowing leaves, and cars on the road.

A Father’s Advice

If a sportsman true you’d be

Last shoot of the season today. This was Hamish's first season and he did very well. And after being told Bubba would never work again, we are so proud to say he's managed to work a whole season! Maggie was also introduced to shooting today and did very well.

Lots to work on over the coming months, training never stops, but looking forward to a wee bit of rest first!

Training time with Maggie and her first introduction to gun shot (15 months old). No worries and keen to go, have to work on the recall, but for her first time, pretty happy with that.

New experience for Bubba today. Managed to retrieve a fallen buzzard. He was not however expecting the talons to be hooked in to his face and the Buzzard hanging from his gums, but he was happy with himself nonetheless. 🦅

It's been far too hot to do any training lately, ☀️ so the days have been spent finding water in the ditches, the paddling pool and of course sitting in the shade, perfectly demonstrated by Sir Bubba.🐶
