Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️

We are checking in with sad news after Hurricane Helene hit our area. Many of our homes went without power for days, widespread flooding, foster humans lost homes/cars/everything… All foster kitties were saved even in homes that flooded. As a rescue we went to our storage unit today and due to flooding we lost all 63 bags of our adult food, we lost all but 2 bags of kitten dry food, we lost all 87 bags of our pine pellet litter, and we lost ALL of our stored blankets for the kitties… Due to power outages we lost an entire bottle of Cerenia, unopened bottle of Convenia, an entire bottle of liquid Gabapentin, 2 trays of FVRCP vaccines (50), and 1 tray of FeLV vaccines (25). We’ve lost a LOT of foster space putting more stress on other fosters who do have homes to come back to (we had coolers too but when looking for more ice we couldn’t get enough to last through the outage)… While we were not hit as hard as some, we’ve lost all the means to feed our babies and keep them clean with fresh litter and blankets 💔. So many are in need out there right now, but if you are able to share or help, we can really use anything at this time. Mainly dry adult food and pine pellet litter (we buy pine litter from our local feed store where it’s only 9.95 a 40lbs bag). We have included a chewy wishlist (a VERY small one) of immediately needed items and an Amazon wishlist with JUST blankets on there. If you’d like to send a donation for litter/other needed items/kitty vet care/etc we so appreciate ANY help. We will need to purchase at least 30 bags of litter as soon as possible. Our president purchased what’s needed for the next few in terms of litter and small bags of food for everyone who needed some, but it won’t last long and she ran out of money. Please share and help if you can! Your support helps kitties like Sakura who is fighting relapsed FIP and reliant on a feeding tube for nutrition ❤️

As proud members of Pasco County, The Runaways Animal Rescue is here to help! 🙏🙏🙏

** without funding or assistance for a power back up we cannot responsibly continue to help the community and will be forced to close**

It’s become apparent that we cannot depend on the Texas electricity to work as it should. After days with the storm having the power off and then getting it restored it has been turned off again from two houses down the way catching on fire then catching the transform and pole on fire. We will be without power until center point is able to restore us. With all this being said we are in dire need of back up power if anyone has a generator battery powered fans anything to help keep the fur babies cool and keep us operating. we would so appreciate it. Please contact us via messaganger or text 346 233 4814 if you’re able to assist in any way.

I’ve attached the Amazon wish list for anyone who wants to help out directly by ordering one we would really appreciate it .
