*For those of you wondering what happened to his ear, poor Titus got a hemotoma after playing in the lake and we are working with the vet to keep the fluid drained and swelling down. We’re hoping when it heals we will be able to post it and help it stand up! If not, he will be a forever puppy 🐶

✨We are excited to share that we are switching dog food and wanted to share this opportunity with you as well as we know that you value the nutrition your dog is getting and want to give your pup the best chance at a long, health life! ✨

We personally believe that if you invest in your dogs food now, you will minimize your investment in costly health issues down the road. While raw diet is the most nutritionally optimal, it is expensive and can be difficult to feed and doesn't work for every family.

Previously, we have used and recommended Inukshuk, and while we still feel it is a high quality food, it does contain several ingredients are not optimal like canola oil and synthetic taurine. After much research, calling companies, and trying foods out with our own dogs, we have settled on a new brand, TLC.

🐾In addition to using meat sources that are human grade(meaning no antibiotics and no byproducts like feathers, heads, etc which often cause inflammation in our pups systems and can mimic allergies or cause digestive upset), over 80% of the ingredients are whole foods as sources of vitamins and minerals rather than added synthetics which is a VERY high percentage when it comes to kibble. (including green lipped mussels which those who know me, know how excited I get seeing this ingredient in food because of it's health benefits)

Like Father Like Daughter.

These two have developed such a special and beautiful bond while Sedona has been training with us. Titus has always been a fantastic father, teaching his puppies gently but firmly and leading the pack well but he and Sedona are so similar in many ways and it’s been such a blessing to see his confidence, eagerness to learn and please, and ready for anything spirit pass along to her.

Been there, done that 😅

THIS is why we work on crate training(NOT just crate desensitization) with our puppies starting at just five weeks old! Many of our pups go home sleeping through the night, or if they do have to get up, it’s only once!

Here’s a few tips to help with the nighttime routine!

1️⃣ Limit food and water after 6pm and give plenty of time for them to go before bedtime
2️⃣ Play with your puppy before. You want your puppy tired and ready for bed!
3️⃣ Get in a good crate routine during the day. Out to potty first thing when they’re let out, lots of praise and reward, in the crate for naps and meals, and keep the crate small and cozy
4️⃣ If your puppy does need to go out, keep the mood quiet, no playtime, and immediately after go right back in the kennel

One of our mamas in our program is needing to find a new placement due to some life changes in her current home 🤍 Miss Talon is smart, eager to please, and has had advanced training for scent work, medical alert, and public access. She loves bikejoring and hiking, and would excel in almost any sport. She is ecollar trained, house trained, crate trained and does very well when she understands what is expected of her.

She has completed all her health testing including hips, elbows, heart, and thyroid.

Playtime is Pup-ular for a Reason! 🐶🐾

Puppies need to learn how to play with other puppies and grown dogs - it's a crucial part of their development! Using their mouths during play is completely natural and helps them learn valuable skills. When puppies play together, you'll often see roughhousing and boundary-testing, which is all part of the learning process.

When a puppy nips too hard, you might hear a yelp from the other pup, signaling that they've gone too far. This is an important lesson in boundaries and empathy!

But some of the most important playtime for puppies is with well-adjusted grown dogs. These gentle giants can teach younger pups how to act and show them what boundaries are. You want your puppy to be influenced by dogs who know how to convey boundaries properly.

Check out these two photos for a perfect example! The first shows two puppies roughhousing and testing boundaries, while the second shows Axel giving a gentle correction to her pup for playing too rough.

Here’s what’s going on at Silver Pines Pups with these German shepherd babies!

We have officially started our Quick Start program. That means we are incorporating a lot of new training aspects to our German shepherd’s.
We are including things like;
Basic obedience
Crate training
Basic manners
Leash work
Sit. Down. Come. Commands

The Shepherds are also starting to be integrated into the community in new ways. With visits to outings and events that will expose them to growth in their boundaries. How cool is that?

And maybe some of the most exciting news?!

Dixie and Eastwood will be started on public access as they have tested well for service work!! 🤍🐾

With all this news we want you to know this is the last week you can claim these puppies at their current rate. After this week, prices will increase as the training progresses!

👉It takes a special kind of dog to be a candidate as a service dog, and Dixie is that special. Her eagerness to learn through play, and her emotional intelligence to take cues from her surroundings, really point out a puppy who will succeed as a service dog.
