It’s feeding time! Every week we feed and check the tubs. Our worm tubs are FULL of worms. They can be used in your compost or as fishing bate. Let me know and I will pull you an ounce of worms!

Our worm farms contain more then just red wiggler worms. They are full of happy helping mites. These mites do not harm plant material and speed up the consumption of rotten plant material. We added watermelon last week and these guys polished it off in a week. This clump is the last bits of the rind.

This weekend we did a full check of each worm farm. We checked how they were eating, harvested castings, aged the majority of the worms, balanced moisture and ph. We do everything naturally and never use chemicals.

Worms only eat rotten material. They do NOT eat healthy plant material. Our worm farms are so full of nutrients that some of the compost we put in starts to grow.

We spent a bunch of time finding egg sacks (cocoons). There were more then we could count!

Do you hate gnats? Fruit flies in the house? My mom hates them so we used a grub gr***de on our house plants. This kills fruit flies and acts to prevent them from coming back. We added grub gr***de to the castings tub to kill the mites. The mites don’t hurt the plants, they are called beneficial mites and help the worms, but people think they are gross.
This means when you buy my worm castings they should also get rid of any fruit flies you have living in your plants. Natural fertilizer AND pest killer all in one!

Today we sorted out Tub #2. We found hundreds of egg pods and so many worms. We dug out a bunch of castings and have them sitting in the castings tub. These will sit for at least 2 weeks to make sure there are no worms. Then I can bag up the castings to sell! We added apple just in case a worm is there and needs to be fed.

Hi! my name is Alex and I am making a red wiggler worm farm. It’s call Ross’s Red Wigglers!
I will be selling my worms at the Fairview Farmers Market. I will also be selling the castings, worm p**p, for people to put on plants as fertilizer. This is great for your plants and helps them grow better.
If I have enough people interested I will be making worm kits for people to make their own worm farms.
This is a great way to reduce the waste coming from your kitchen and to make natural fertilizer for your plants!
