Mabel Update:
This sweet girl has been through so much in her very short life. Last night she miscarried 8 puppies with the love, support and help of her amazing foster Mom. She is a baby herself. She came from a backyard breeder who showed her zero attention or affection and lived her life outside 24/7 in snow, heat, rain, etc. She came into rescue scared of everything then had the trauma of miscarriage. Just another example of what the Mama’s of backyard breeders endure. Cute puppies…abused Mama’s. Thank you to everyone who donated and showed support for Mabel. She can now leave the heartbreak of a life no animal deserves and begin the life of the absolute QUEEN that she is.

Please keep sweet Mabel in your thoughts and prayers. It was discovered she was pregnant and unfortunately is at the vet losing her puppies. Besides being heartbreaking, this will also be very expensive.

Rescue work is some tough stuff. Anyone intricately involved with it, knows this. We see some horrific things and some of the worst people have to offer. On days when we feel depleted and cannot take another heartbreak, we get a photo like this. ~ 12 years
years ago, Boogji came into MAPR after being taken to the shelter because he was hit by a car, TWICE. He had a severely broken leg the second time and his leg could not be saved. In addition to his physical needs, he had severe anxiety. His foster Mom found him a forever home with a wonderful family who worked wonders for his trauma and anxiety. Yesterday, he turned ~14 years old and there was a celebration for such a brave little man. The picture is too cute not to share and reminds us why we keep doing what we do.

Frank and Jessie are an adorable pair of senior pugs looking for their retirement home. They are super sweet and chill. They are great other dogs and came from a home where they were definitely loved.

The vet estimates these gentlemen to be 12 years old, in good overall health and in good health.
Frank has dry eyes which require daily eye drops. He is visually impaired but sticks right with his brother and has no trouble. These boys love getting pets and scratches. They enjoy naps, long walks in the garden, snacks and mealtime.
Frank and Jessie are truly bonded, following each other around and almost always touching when sleeping. Do you have a couch that needs two adorable couch potatoes to keep it warm? The fellas are each 26 lbs, neutered, and up-to- date on vetting. Though they have pretty good house manners now, they will need some time to adjust to a routine in a new home, like most rescues. If being too cute was a crime, these boys would be convicted felons. Frank and Jessie are located in Charlotte, NC. Their adoption fees will be greatly reduced to place them in the right home.

Letters from home:
Ripper just loves every body. When he wags his tail his whole butt moves. He's always so happy. He grabs a toy as soon as you come home. He just gives out so much love, always. So loving, so sweet. His face melts his mom's heart everyday and ours too. This is why we do what we do ♥️

Presenting the bonded pair Charlie and Eddie! Charlie does need to be groomed which is in the works

6 year old bonded pair of healthy pug mixes; Charlie is the hippie pug, Eddie is the low rider. They are super friendly boys, get along with other dogs and love love love to run in a yard. They are house trained, crate trained, ride well in the car and walk well on a leash. They are also great listeners and love to cuddle! They will be brought up to date on a few things with our vet and then be ready to live their best lives! These boys are pretty vocal and have lots to say! They would love a fenced in yard to zoom zoom in and would be content with other pups or being the only 2. Charlie is a gentleman who needs to be groomed a few times of hair due to his long luscious locks. They have everything they would ever need to accompany them to their forever home!

An update on Sanctuary Pugs Jenny and Lola. Sanctuary pugs are pugs who aren't able to be adopted out but are cared for the rest of their lives by MAPR.

Lola makes sure to keep everyone in line especially her foster mom she is not making her meals fast enough. All things are food in her mind.
Jenny is much quieter, she just wants some fresh sunshine and good snuggles. The most comfortable beds are ideal as well. Both girls are enjoying their well deserved retirement.

Andrew Jackson has been adopted! He moved north to live with his forever Mom and Dad and has many cat siblings (new family are cat rescuers!) He settled in extremely well and is loving being king of the castle (the cats let him think that, but we all know who the kings are). This sweet boy has met new friends in his neighborhood and went to visit the home where Teddy Roosevelt was inaugurated as President in 1901. Seemed fitting per his Mom. He has been going to work with Mom and is a big hit around the office. Here this older gentleman thought he had hit the age of retirement, but decided he still had some working days in him. Oh and he also makes his Mom call him Mr. Jackson at the office...you know, for professional reasons. Live the good life Andrew Jackson!

MAPR fosters , Goose and Dahlia. This bonded pair was saved from a hoarding situation and took awhile to come out of their shells. They have a wonderfully patient foster family that gave them all the time that they needed and now these 2 love birds enjoy hanging out with the family, but only if they are together.

Sweet little 15 year old MAPR foster, Magic, has been made a Sanctuary Pug. She has acute renal failure, which landed her in the ER a few weeks ago. Due to the fragility of her condition, she is unable to be spayed. It is our policy not to adopt out an unaltered dog, so she will remain with her foster family to live out her life. Although Magic is 15, she has no idea of her age. She loves tooling around the backyard with the resident Pugs and toddler.

MAPR foster, Chuggs, had his vet visit today. He was a little miffed when she told him he was overweight. She quickly found out that Chuggs does not want to cut his food intake nor does he like when someone messes with his ears. He looks super remorseful, doesn’t he?

MAPR foster, Andrew Jackson is a super senior who says “rainy, dreary days are for napping”. But don’t let this little siesta photo fool you, this boy is an active senior. No sitting around McDonalds drinking coffee with his buddies, he prefers walking the mall before the stores open to get his “steps” in. He is scheduled for his dental next week then will be “actively” looking for his retirement home.

At this time, we are TEMPORARILY closing our website to new adoption applications. As of today, we have over 100 already approved adopters, some of which have been waiting over 2 years to adopt from MAPR. In order to help these families find their forever Love Pug, we feel our best option is to focus our time on helping them find matches. As a rescue, we are VERY fortunate to have so many families wanting to adopt from MAPR. THANK YOU! We hope you understand and know that we will open for new applications, again, once we have helped more of these very patient families. 📸

Please be careful of scammers on rescue pages! They will try to get deposits for puppies they do not have. If you see one of these posts, please report it to administration through Facebook, immediately, so we can block these people. You will NEVER see dogs or puppies for sale on any of our (or any other) rescues pages. If you do, it is a scam. Please be careful.

MAPR has had an extremely busy weekend! We received 12 (yes, you read that right, 12) surrender requests. 11/12 came in this weekend (a few are pictured). To say there has been A LOT of driving, bathing and assessing the past few days is an extreme understatement. Please keep in mind, all of these dogs are brand new to rescue and we know very little about them. We would appreciate if you gave us some time before emailing our applications department and social media with inquiries and interest. Once they are on the website they will be open for interest. A BIG BIG THANK YOU to all who helped transport, bathe, temporarily house, foster and spent time acclimating these babies to their new environment. A special hurrah to Sheri and Robin for organizing all of the requests, finding foster homes and transporters for everybody. Welcome to the MAPR family everyone! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️

If you’ve been following MAPR for awhile, you will know Shendi’s story (you can read it on our website for a refresher). She is a no nonsense girl and under no circumstances does she want anything to do with male dogs. One of her foster homes resident dogs is a male and tries so hard to make her his friend. She continuously chases him away. The volunteers decided since he wasn’t listening to her actions, maybe a sign would help. 🤣. Unfortunately he can’t read the room OR the sign. 🤣🚫

An enormous THANK YOU to all who participated in MAPR’s Spring auction. We raised almost $3000!! We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with any of the blips they encountered. We used a new system, which made running the auction A LOT less time consuming and stressful for the admins. We think we have worked out all of the kinks and will use it for the Fall auction. Larry turned his back for a SECOND and resident Pug, Friday, stole his bone. The nerve of somePugs. To be fair, he originally stole that bone from her. 🤣🤣. For more information on Larry, go to www.midatlanticpugrescue.org

Larry loves being outside and attributes it to him being able to take off A LOT of weight. His outdoor cart makes keeping up with the foster and resident Pugs at Pug Camp so much easier. Vroom vroom 💨 💨💨

WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY APPLICATIONS FOR KOBE AT THIS TIME. Kobe is a 6 month old male Pug with big neurological problems. He is scheduled with a neurologist this week to figure out what’s going on and what we can do to help him. Kobe is in need of angels to help with the cost of his care. Larry is an approximately 8-9 year old male Pug who came in with some big medical problems. He was unable to walk or pee, and was severely overweight (27 pounds!!). Since he was too obese to safely remove the bladder stones, surgically, he was started on a special diet to help him both lose weight and dissolve stones. Fortunately, by the time he had lost enough weight to be eligible for surgery, his bladder stones had all dissolved. He has been examined by a neurologist regarding his inability to walk. She feels he had a herniated disc at some point that caused a severe spinal cord injury and resulted in irreversible paralysis. Fortunately, Larry doesn't know he can't walk because he has those super fast wheels helping him get EVERYWHERE he wants to go. Due to his spinal cord injury, Larry is unable to empty his own bladder and will need it expressed at least 3 times/day, BUT it is super easy to do and takes seconds. No more standing in the rain waiting for your Pug to pee! Although he can feel when he has to poop, he cannot always get outside in time, but will get on a pretty predictable schedule once he is settled. Larry is a wonderful boy who loves everybody and would really like a forever home with a family who can continue to help him be his best self. He promises to give you LOTS of love in return!
