I spent some time with Scruffy this past weekend — he’s such a photogenic little guy and clearly knows it!

He loves being outdoors, so that’s where we spend most of our time. Without fail, he sprints ahead to “our chair” and claims it before I can even get there. 😍 He’s also discovered that when he makes room for me, treats tend to mysteriously appear. Smart pup!

Look at that smile! Such a happy, pretty girl.

This is my newest client, Layla, a beautiful sheltie. She and I spent a lot of time together this past weekend.

Layla can be a bit shy and slow to warm up to people, but she and I were best buds after the first visit.

My newest clients. Five boys in the same home. 😳 Fredo, Nico, Gino, John and Keke (AKA Tortilla).

I have spent quite a bit of time with these boys lately and their parents have booked me several more times over the next several months to help fill in gaps with their work schedules.

I saw these boys every day last week and will see them a few times this week as well.

I love getting to know new pets and getting to bond with them and see the connections we make. I love providing freedom for their owners to be able to live their lives and fill in the gaps as needed.

This beautiful girl is Dolly. She was one of my very first clients. All my pet clients have a special place in my heart, but Dolly took up a bit of extra space in my heart from the first time I saw her. Something about senior pets just tugs at my heart a bit stronger.

Sweet Dolly passed away last month. 😢 I have used her heavily on my social media (she's been my business Facebook profile pic for a very long time). She's on my website and on my Google My Business page.

I have so many great memories with her. Every pet loss hurts and Dolly is certainly no different. I'll miss my sweet girl.

In the pet care industry, trust is everything. I earn it by showing clients that, come what may, I have their pet’s best interests at heart—and that I'll keep them informed every step of the way.

In a perfect world, every visit would run smoothly and no detail would ever be overlooked. But the real measure of professionalism comes when life throws a curveball. Being upfront, honest, and proactive in how I address challenges can turn a rough situation into a chance to deepen client confidence.

Clear communication isn’t just a courtesy—it’s an investment in trust. Whether it’s sending a quick update about a delay, checking in after an unexpected issue, or apologizing when I missed a detail, open dialogue transforms misunderstandings into mutual respect.

The client needs to know and be confident that I will keep a meticulous eye on their pet and will let them know about major issues that arise. They know that if they haven't received a call from me, all is well even though I do send complete reports at each visit.

The duo of Goose and Maverick.

I see these sweet boys quite frequently. Goose was my best friend from the very first time I met him but Mav has taken some time to get to know. He only recently started coming out to say hi so I was thrilled when I headed down the stairs and saw him watching me.

There is a 3rd cat in the home as well named Mooshu. He also has been slow to warm up to me but with patience and time, all 3 boys now come out to say hi at each visit.

I just finished three days with Mable. She is one of the most social cat clients I have. She knows nothing about personal space or boundaries 😏.

Fortunately for her, there aren't many tasks to be done in her home at each visit so we get to spend most of the time sitting on the floor hanging out.

This is where my love of pets began... This is Sargeant with my dad. We got him as a puppy when I was about 4, I think. He grew to be a 200 lb lap dog. He was the most gentle creature in the world and loved sitting on my grandma's lap on the couch. He stood taller than me when he was on all fours. .

I remember in first grade being asked to tell a story of me and my dog. I got in trouble for lying when I said my dog was twice as big as me... It really was the truth... At least from my perspective as a 6 year old.

This happened two years ago today. Sharing again. I stopped giving these types of treats at my visits after this happened.
------

I had a terrifying experience last night. I'm so thankful that I have so much training and that one of my certications is pet first aid and emergencies.

Long story short, I had to pull this bully stick treat out of Tank the pit bull's throat. His treat got lodged sideways in his throat and he couldn't get it out. It's about 2.5 inches long.

I tried the pet heimlich first (he was able to breathe the entire time but was becoming very anxious and scared, of course) but then had to just put my entire hand in his mouth and coax the stick out of his throat. It was wedged in there pretty tight. You can see from the photo below that the stick which used to be pure white has a tinge of blood on it. I'm guessing there is a minor throat abrasion.

In order to be able to see what I was doing and control his mouth and bite reflex more, I used a big spoon from the kitchen as a tongue depressor which worked great. I stood over him facing his head, using my knees near his his neck to help control him. He was so scared and just wanted help so he stood there like a good boy the entire time and let me do what I needed to do.

The terrifying part was that he is very strong and has a full set of very sharp teeth. I do know this pup very well and know he'd never bite me on purpose, but when he's in pain and scared and nervous, sticking my entire fist in his mouth seems a bit unnerving.

Once the event was over and he calmed down, he climbed up on the couch with me (which he's never done) to lay his head in my lap and give me kisses. His way of saying thank you to me.

I did, of course, notify his mama once the situation calmed down. I made sure Tank's throat was clear of anything else, he was able to eat and drink and he was playing with his sister Zoey almost right after.

His mama was very grateful that I knew how to handle the situation and that her baby was OK.

As a reminder, please never leave your pet unattended with bully sticks, pigs ears and such! This is the third time I've had to pull something out of a dog's mouth because they were choking. This was the worst since it was lodged so tightly in there.

I spend a lot of time with Archie and he is always such a happy boy.

He has two little boys at home that love him to the ends of the earth so when his family is on vacation and Archie is in my care, his mom tells me of all their adventures and I relay them to Archie so he knows what his family is up to. I even show him the pictures his mom sends me of the boys. Archie just soaks it all up.

One thing I learned a long time ago is that pets love to hear their family's names. So, I use mom and dad's names, but mostly the two boys. I talk about them a lot and say their names.

The end result is a happy, happy boy when his family returns.
