More updates!
Dear Bobbie,
We hope you are well. It's time for Bellini's birthday, and our annual update. Our handsome boy turns 13 this year. Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, and without medication has difficulty getting up and traversing stairs. We now live in a two story house, with bedrooms upstairs; we chose an historic house which includes a small elevator. Bellini and his siblings love taking the elevator, several times per day.
Bellini is sometimes a grumpy old man, but he is happy, and experiencing little pain. He still loves to chase tennis balls, but his Frisbee days are long gone.
Bellini's sister Aria, loves him very much, and has been a wonderful life companion. She turns 11 this year, and has few health concerns. After losing our basketcase rescue, Santiago, we rescued a two year old BC boy from a family on Craig's List. He was originally acquired from a farmer, who docked his tail. Indy's family had no time for him, and kept him in their garage. The result is a boy who has difficulty dealing with the outside world. He barks at anything "new", and is a terror outdoors on leash. He is extremel afectionate, and we're working on his outside manners.
A couple of months ago, Kim witnessed a dog being abandoned on our street (107 degrees). We contated the owner associated with the microchip, who had given the dog to a friend. This was a handsome, two year old, purebred Siberian Husky; abandoned after comforting his owners during the pandemic. His situation was sad, but Toby was a wonderful, almost perfect boy. We found him space at Norsled, a sleddog rescue in the bay area. He was eventually fostered by an active couple, who recently lost their loving Husky. Of course, they fell in love with Toby, and adopted him after a couple of weeks.
Honestly, we also had fallen in love with him; and regretted giving him up, despite already having a full house. Toby came fully house trained, was great on leash, and never barked. Most endearing, he loved our dogs. It's hard to break up a happy pack!
We now live close to National Parks, Yosemite, Sequoia, etc. The dogs got their first snow experience last month. They were so excited, and curious. It was a great day!
We actually keep our eyes out for a lifetime companion for Indy. He is really happy now, but will be lonely after losing his older siblings. These wonderful dogs have meant so much to us. Thank you for supporting us, and all the things you do for the breed.
With much affection,
Eduardo, Kim, Bellini, Aria, and Indy
