Client Spotlight: Chuck and Penny! 🐾

Meet Penny, a beautiful rescue Bernese Mountain Dog who was saved from an Amish breeder. Penny has been through so much and has a high fear response, especially around men. But with the help of our pack walks, Chuck and Penny are building a beautiful and trusting relationship.

Penny was silently cheered on by her cohorts and the best silent cheerleader ever (Sarah), showing just how much progress they are making together. Special mention to Chuck for his patience and his ability to become the best walking treat dispenser ever - for now anyways! Way to go, Chuck and Penny! We are so proud of you both!🌟

🌳 Our Favorite Training Spot: The Tree Stump at Shiawassee Park! 🐾

We just can't get enough of this special spot where we love to practice our place, waiting, and recall skills! This tree stump has become our go-to spot for training sessions with our furry friends.

Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the park for all the real life training opportunities. Plus, the peaceful atmosphere makes it the perfect place to work on obedience and bond with our pups.

So if you ever spot a big group of obedient dogs walking together at Shiawassee Park, chances are were going here!

🚨Important Alert: The Dangers of Bloat🚨

Bloat, also known as gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), is a life-threatening condition that can affect dogs, especially those with deep chests like barrel-chested breeds. Here are some crucial points you need to know:

*** During summer outdoor classes only give water before and after!***

1. Preventative Measures: If you have a young dog and they are being spayed or neutered, consider having their stomach tacked to help prevent bloat throughout life.

2. Signs to Watch For: Keep a close eye on your dog, especially after meals or during exercise. Bloating can occur suddenly and may be accompanied by symptoms like restlessness, unproductive vomiting, or a distended abdomen (A HARD BELLY).

3. Risk Factors: Giving large meals, drinking excessive amounts of water, heavy panting or engaging in strenuous exercise, especially in hot weather, can increase the risk of bloat.

4. Gas-X Can Help: Always carry Gas-X pills with you, as they can help relieve gas and potentially buy you enough time to get to the vet if bloat occurs.

5. Education is Key: Educate yourself on the signs, risk factors, and preventative measures of bloat. Knowing what to look for and how to respond could save your dog's life.

My Personal Experience:
I have a personal attachment to this topic. My late girl Porschea was taken by bloat at only 7 years old. A fun summer weekend turned into the worst weekend of my whole life. It's a terrifying experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Once bloat occurs, it's a race against time.

It's 100% fatal if not treated promptly and I mean IMMEDIATELY!

Foraging with our furry friends is not only fun but also enriching. But to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, having proper training skills is CRUCIAL.

Proper recall: Having a strong recall ensures that your dog will come back to you when called, even amidst exciting distractions like deer, other dogs, or even skunks. This is essential for their safety and your peace of mind during outdoor adventures.

Proper "leave it": Teaching your dog to "leave it" can prevent them from picking up harmful items or interacting with wildlife while foraging. It's a valuable skill for keeping them safe and healthy on your adventures.

Hey everyone! Theo the Frenchie sent me a review of his first few TDL summer activities:

Take it from me, The Dog Lady's classes are the best! They're super fun, and you get to learn so much. The proper socialization is way more exhausting than the dog park. Plus, all the dogs are really chill!!

I love training with my mom! I get special attention and treats when we go on our class walks. 🍖❤️

The newest pup in training! This is Jake.
Jake is working on having boundaries with members of the household and guest. He has become so attached to his moms because they rescued him from an awful situation (he’s so grateful) but struggles with seperation anxiety. Jake is now learning he’s home forever and can relax and be a dog! Lots of exercise and mental stimulation.

He is also learning he is not allowed to chase his cat housemates.

Introducing WINSTON, he was the runt of his litter but now is a super star student! Such a little gem this pup, we have been working with basic obedience and he is already learning so much! He rings a bell to go potty and waits by the door to go inside! This little guy moves so fast and moves so much it was hard to get some pictures together BUT we did it😂!
