There is not much beekeeping to do during the cold winter months, but when the days start to get a little warmer we can check for life and ensure they have enough honey to last until the maples start blooming (hopefully soon)! It's always sad when we find one that didn't make it, but we do our best to learn from it and adjust where we can.

How do we know bee season is coming to an end? Goldenrod is blooming! Any honey we harvest comes off before the goldenrod blooms allowing the bees to build up their stores before going into winter. There are still a few tasks that need to be done to ensure they are all ready for winter, but things are starting to slow down in the apiaries.

Interested in trying hot honey but not sure what to do with it? One of our favorite uses is as a marinade! Hot honey adds sweet and spice to your meats or grilled veggies.

For this recipe we used:
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons of hot honey
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1 green onion, finely chopped
2 green garlic (or 2 garlic cloves), finely chopped
