We attend sanctioned shows. Started in 4-H, and youth ARBA, graduated to Open Classes.
Holland Lops are particularly difficult, and I encourage everyone interested in them to never stop researching their own information, it's a continuous learning process. I would recommend checking out this group, it's not just about commercial breeds, but MANY commercial breeders have many years experience, and if you notice many ARBA judges raise them personally. We can learn a lot and apply it to our herds regardless of the breed.
If only it could last.....
I would say no one loves molting season, but we no longer have just a "season", it seems someone is molting all year around at one time or another. So after working, and then rabbit chores, I ask Faith to bring the worst looking ones up, where I can sit in the A/C ,watching TV while doing the never ending chore. I'm starting to think the rabbits have caught on, and now molt on purpose so they may enjoy the A/C and TV also 🤣 Virginia is blowing her coat right after delivering her litter, that's also a trend now 😳

Life with Holland Lops: Lady (sable point) and Lucille (blue point) are littermate sisters off Gambler (sable point) x Desire (Pointed White-Blue) as we try to expand the shaded group of colors we have while improving types we go back and forth between the tortes and shaded. Both 1st time moms, Lady has 7 tortes off Gr.Ch Artie and Lucille x Reno (9 legs) has one sable point 😆 Faith's all over the singleton, she usually takes a liking to them and watches them carefully, I usually catch her carrying them around with her because she says they were lonely.

Faith has asked me to try to find Sparrow a companion role vs.barn bunny. The little doe is small, and was a single survivor that Faith helped by hand feeding until weaning. Sparrow loves to be held, wanting to be close to you, begging to be picked up if you even get close to her cage (which is in our kitchen). Litter box trained/indoors her entire life, she wouldn't do well in a different environment.
I agree with Faith, we're both attached to her BUT she would thrive with someone able to give her undivided attention or for her to bond with another bunny (under supervision and both rabbits being spayed/neutered). Sparrow can stay until the perfect match comes along.

What do baby bunnies do when it's hot outside? Pile on top of each other and enjoy all the fan action going on in the Rabbitry. We haven't the slightest clue why they think that's a good idea 🤔

Willow is good for: intestinal inflammation, pain reliever and possible natural coccidiostat.
Between the Lakes show in Plymouth today wasn't as hot as we feared, but we showed Holland Lops earlier and were out of there before the heatwave kicked in! Lots of nice rabbits in open, I'm always envious, but love seeing them and their breeders get acknowledged for all their hard work and accomplishments. Love the pride in their color projects, I appreciate the kindness and support ❤️ We went right home to catch up with grooming the molting ones.
We only took 4 rabbits, and one had the wrong tattoo (oops) 🤣

Nothing like going through 30-40 rabbits (not including 10 grow out juniors and 27 nest box babies) and finding only 4 that aren't horrible looking from molting, bred, with kits, being treated for something, etc.

I have posted him at least 5 times, each time Faith snatched him from me and said NO. He's probably going to retire here, like his sire and grandsire. Artie isn't perfect, and not everyone's cup of tea, but he's a gentle giant, well behaved for us and judges, and has actually produced some really nice show rabbits. They can't all be rock stars, BUT that doesn't make them unworthy or of no value. These are the hard learned lessons only time and experience can teach.

While not a fan of orangey type tortes, perferring the darker shades, these kits are cute. Off Swade's Adley x SH'S Brea, meaning that 2 really cute rabbits CAN make more cute rabbits when lucky, just not in the preferred shade 🤣
After another long day at the 🏥, I came home to do a bedtime check of the bunnies. I'm very proud of Faith holding the fort down. Some dandelion leaf, peppermint and parsley were treats tonight. Micogreens were also on the menu. Gardening by evening lights can be therapeutic.
While fresh greens are part of a well balanced diet for rabbits, always research what is safe for them. Many things are not, or cannot be given to certain rabbits due to age, pregnancy, etc.
*EXAMPLE: peppermint is great for a rabbit off feed, sooths the stomach, dries up a doe after weaning to prevent mastitis, and helps with eye issues.
CANNOT be given to young kits, or pregnant & nursing does.

Butt Bath night! Jesse requires a little help grooming these days, but we still feel blessed to have him here with us. Hopefully we'll celebrate his 8th birthday next month. Meanwhile, I will be making sure to dry the Butt Ruffles 🥰

How do you know your being a good foster Family? 1st-make sure you keep track of who belongs to who? This was easy when ALL the foster siblings are a different color than the fostered baby. We try to if possible, if there are no other options, we mark the kits ear daily with a magic marker. 2nd-Treat baby just like it's yours. I think the torte doe shows she's not been neglected 🤣 she's so nosey!
I actually enjoy low key days with our rabbits vs. The chaos of showing/traveling. I groom them, clip their nails, "try" posing, and just check them out for any health concerns, etc. Theodore had a little bottom cage glow up going on 😉
