Our pack has now become 3 😞 and my heart is broken once again. 💔
Yesterday we had to say good bye to our Lucy girl. Unknown to us she unfortunately had bone cancer and by the time she showed symptoms it had spread internally.
It started with a mild limp a couple weeks ago so we made her an appointment to see the vet. We tested for common desert diseases as she had all the symptoms of valley fever. As we waited for the results she began to decline so my gut told me it wasn’t good news. I had never wished harder for a valley fever test to be positive but, Sure enough the results came back negative for valley fever . At this point we moved forward with X-rays which reveled multiple masses in her bones, lungs and other random small spots. The Cancer had already spread throughout her body.
Lucy has always been rough and tumble so I am not surprised that she masked it for so long.
We got Lucy when she was 6months old from the shelter about 11 years ago now. At the time we just had Sheila and Bologna and I was only about a year into becoming a dog trainer. Paul (my husband) always grew up with bully breeds and new he wanted to adopt one once he got out of the military. At the time Sheila was a handful and I thought it was a bit soon to add another dog to our group but Paul felt it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission and went to she shelter one day while I was at work. He had went to see another dog but Lucy was there happy, wiggly and locked eyes with him and he knew she was the one and he was right. She fit in immediately.
From day one Lucy has been sweet, spunky and incredibly cute with her permanent puppy looks. Her favorite things to do was to roll in the mudd and lay on the couch. She like the others has helped with rehabbing numerous training dogs as well as lived a life of adventures. She will be greatly missed! I know Bologna and Munchie will be there waiting for her on the other side.
We will miss you. Your personality was something special.
