🐴Colic Awareness week 8th-14th November🐴

We are proud to be BHS Vet REACT Colic Champions 🏆
This scheme was set up by The British Horse Society and The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, University of Nottingham. The campaign aims to educate horse owners about a wide range of issues relating to colic, in particular identifying the more subtle, early signs of colic.

I call it the lameness that is not really lameness. Sometimes, a horse develops an unexplainable hitch in his movement that leads to much head scratching from vets who, after an array of diagnostics, find no clear answers. The horse is described as being “not quite right,” but beyond that, there is no reason or treatment.

This mystery lameness that produces an inconsistent limp during one or more gaits is often what we call “rein lameness.” It is a disrupted gait pattern owing to muscular tension or imbalances that have reached a point of negatively affecting motion through the spine.✅ Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/47VK758

Hay delivery has arrived 🎉 Our horses have unlimited hay from now right through until April. Two bales in a field of four horses ensuring no one is left off the bale and there’s more than enough for everyone to feel comfortable. Our hay has been selected for its soft stalk quality, it’s an early crop ensuring it holds as many nutrients as possible.

I’m sure horses smile 😃 there’s a softness in their eyes, a perkiness to their ears, a wrinkle at the sides of their muzzle, and that utter look of love 🥰 Beau smiled at us after breakfast this morning. I know he’s saying thank you. Well thank YOU Beau for being so scrumptious 🩷

This was such a lovely message to receive! 🩷 Yesterday we saw fellow equestrians with a blown out tyre stuck in the middle of the small high street, so we grabbed our trailer and loaded the horses while theirs was fixed. An hour later and off they went to enjoy their day out. Kenny and Phoenix were super and so calm the whole time! A testament to their owners🌟 unexpected accidents happen and we’re pleased we could help

Regular dental check ups are essential for our retirees. With elderly horses we see a lot of diastema’s and gum disease. Regular dentistry helps to heal these and after a few sessions the horses can go back to annual checks with healthy gums. Chaff suits lots of horses gut, unfortunately it’s not great for their teeth, but a good teeth clean can help prevent this. 🪥🦷😬 The Barn Equine Surgery

Evacuation of a horse off Black Mountain North Carolina. The owner stayed by this senior horses side the entire time and was desperate to get him and the rest of her horses care. Rescuers had to cross creeks, sandbars, washed out roads and a river to transport him out. Keep our responders in your thoughts as they continue efforts today.
