The Philippolis 200 Festival is fully aware that they will be causing Animal Abuse and Animal Cruelty by firing 2 old Cannons in town on Saturday as part of the so-called festivities. These cannons are of no significance regarding the Anglo Boer War as they were never used. The committee has just swept concerns raised under the carpet and continues with the ANC Window Dressing activities as the locals call it. Some of which have absolutely no relevance to the history of this town and doesn't belong on such a platform. The committee does not care that there are dogs on chains just meters from these cannons! They don't care that there is an Egret Breeding Pair in a tree close by. They don't care that there are racing pigeons in cages all around town. They don't care about cows, goats, sheep, pigs, cats, dogs and other animals in town. These animals are going to be seriously injured or killed from fright when these cannons go off!! Elderly animals could die of heart attacks! Animals can strangle themselves to death on their chains! Birds can break their necks or wings flying into their cage walls from fright! Eardrums will burst in some animals! Some animals will jump through glass windows and others might get run over by vehicles when they run into the road to try and get away! To mention just a few! The committee does not care that only some of these animals that survive may be taken to the vet in Colesberg. Some owners may not be able to even take there animals to the vet! If the vet is there and if she is available it will be after-hours rates that must be paid and that is before treatment! R2 500-00 must be paid just for after hours at the Gariep Vet - and then the treatment also ads on. Where are people going to get this money?! The committee is not concerned about this at all. 90% of the town is also not interested in this festival and will not attend it. If the firing of the cannons is not stopped - it will leave a sour taste in the mouths of those who refuse to stop it and want to continue with their deliberate Animal Cruelty and Animal Abuse!! The name of the town will be tarnished and that will influence tourism and other avenues that bring money to the town. The committee is very short sighted. The last time these cannons were fired was in the 90's. A witness told me they saw a dog starting to vomit and choke on his vomit from fright! That dog was about 1km from the cannons. What about all the animals in town behind walls....in cages.....on chains...etc!? STOP ANIMAL ABUSE AND ANIMAL CRUELTY IN PHILIPPOLIS!!! STOP THE FIRING OF THOSE CANNONS!

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - I would like to please ask you for Prayers for Voldemort (Voldi) - he has been in hospital for a week now. A mysteriously broken jaw. Voldi is not eating or drinking by himself yet. I will write about him tomorrow as my laptop is about to die and it is load-shedding again here. A Big Big THANK YOU to Tanya Burger Kriel (the Horse Rescue Lady), who was willing to drop everything and take Voldi through to the Vet in Colesberg at high speed, when I was not able to do so due to work. Thank you so much Tanya - you have been a Cat Angel for us on so many levels over the past few months!! Please keep Voldi in your thoughts and prayers Karoo Cat House Friendz. Much appreciated. Thank you. Love from All of Us ###x (Amanda - Admin)

Ginger is resting now. His little body was tired and he was basically blind after severe eye infections over many months. So glad I could catch him after trying over a long period. The last 2 months of his life was spent in love and comfort. Forgotten was the scared Feral he used to be. I will tell Ginger's story another time. I know he is pain free now, and he left this earth knowing he was truly loved. He had so much love to give. My heart feels like it has been ripped out. Love you Gingy. RIP (Amanda - Admin)

25/01/2023

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - tonight is a very very sad night. Ginger, our blind former Feral, will be crossing the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow at around 12:30pm. His tummy has run almost non-stop since Monday evening, and in general his health has deteriorated these past few days. Gingy has been living in the kitchen in a huge cage for more than 2 months now. I bathed him earlier this evening and he is now lying on a blanket in front of the cage, listening to his favourite Gregorian chant CD while I work. Music changes his face and you can see he just loves it. He was very upset for quite some time tonight as I couldn't take him to go and sit on the grass, as I usually do after 5pm. We had another hectic storm and everything was wet and muddy - which he didn't understand. But, I will make up for it tomorrow morning hopefully. I gave him some tuna a few hours ago, his first ever, and he loved it! His tummy has only gone once since then, so it is making a difference. It is extremely difficult for me to know that it is our last evening together. Extremely. But, I had to make the call because I love him so much. So that he can fly free of pain and blindness. Love You Ginger. You will forever be in my Heart. (Amanda - Admin)

A Big Thank You to local Lady, Ina Marais, who donated another bag of dry food to The Catz!! Ina also donated dry food a while ago and I am so very very thankful!! I walked around the house and suddenly came upon this bag lying at the front door! No note, nothing. Nobody around! It took a while asking around so that I could thank the Cat Angel, before it came out that Ina was the Cat Angel :-) Ina, we really appreciate you for thinking of the Catz. The bag has already been opened and is being enjoyed!! Doggie, Koning, says he is enjoying it as well, as he has stolen some of it too ;-) Thank you soooo much! X### (Amanda - Admin)

08/01/2023

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU!!! to our Friendz Debbie and Ralph, down under in Australia!! Debbie and Ralph made a very generous donation towards The Catz a few days ago! This is not the 1st time and we really appreciate it sooooooo much! Debbie and Ralph, you are true Cat Angels and we so appreciate your donations, love and friendship and always caring about all of us. Thank you again!!! The Donation has so far been used for diesel, should there be an emergency and I have to go to the Vet in Colesberg, and also for buying about 50 tins of cat food so far, and the rest of the money will also go towards tinned and dry food for The Catz. One of the pics below shows some of the food that has already been bought. Debbie and Ralph came into our lives in 2020 when they bought the Cat Painting that was made especially for The Karoo Cat House by Pierre Knobel-Artist. Pierre made the beautiful painting and donated it to us - it is the one you see on our FB page at the top. Once again - Thank You so very much Pierre!!!! Debbie and Pierre have known each other for many years as they were colleagues at the same airline, flying high in the skies, many years ago. Now here comes the long story of trying to get this painting to Australia!! It took 2 years before Debbie and Ralph could hold the painting in their hands and actually hang it in their home!! They bought the painting at the end of 2020. I then proceeded to start packaging it so that it would arrive in Australia without being damaged. I also wanted to add a few small gifts for Ralph and Debbie, but then she warned me that I had to be very careful about what I was going to send, as customs there is very strict and if I included chocolates and things they might be missing from SA, the whole package could be destroyed by customs. So in the end I added "safe" gifts like specials socks, a South African recipe book and some magazines. Off I go to the Post Office in January 2021. Very happy that the painting has been packaged well and will be on its way to its new owners soon. I get to the Post Office only to find out that due to Covid, Australia is not receiving any parcels from South Africa!! I was stunned. They couldn't tell me when I would be able to send it in future, and I had to go home with the parcel again. Every month after that I would phone the Post Office to find out if I could bring the parcel, and every month the answer would be NO. That went on for a whole year!! Just before Christmas 2021 the Post Office said I must bring the parcel - it can go now! So on the 21st of December 2021 the parcel left my hands. Debbie kept on checking on their postal system in Australia, and I kept on checking on our postal system, but the parcel just showed that it was booked into customs in SA. No further movement!!! Then my phone calls started again to our local Post Office and to SA's main Post Offices and to customs. I sent emails, and made more calls. Nobody could physically pinpoint the parcel and the system still showed customs. We all thought that it had now been stolen. Pierre said that he was willing to make another painting for free and send it to Debbie and Ralph. Then just before Christmas 2022, I had an early morning call from Debbie!!! She walked out of her house that morning, and here was the parcel at her doorstep!!! Just like that!! After being missing in the postal system for a year!!! Just as she expected the Australian customs had a field day with the parcel and it had been opened, but it seemed like everything was still there. We were all so relieved and Debbie was so glad to finally have the painting she fell in love with!! As you can see in the pic below, it is now hanging in Debbie and Ralph's bedroom. At last! Two years after she bought it!!! Debbie and Ralph are Cat Lovers too. Below are pics of their 3 Girls that Debbie sent, for me to share with you. Thank you Debbie! The soft ginger Kitty lying next to the red cushion is Leyla. The girl looking at the snow outside is Cerçi. Then there is another pic of Cerçi lying on her back, feet in the air :-) Ziggy is the one sitting pretty for the camera....and then Ziggy and Layla making sure that everyone knows that the couch is theirs!! Our Beautiful Karoo Cat House Furry Friendz down under :-) I would like to say a Huge Thank You again to Pierre, Debbie and Ralph for supporting us and for your love throughout the years. You are Amazing! Always thinking of us and assisting where you can. So there you have the long story Karoo Cat House Friendz - of the painting that took 2 years to arrive at its new home ;-) May you All have a good week and we wish you a Blessed one. Love from All of Us ###xx (Amanda - Admin)

Little Debbie was laid to rest just as the rain started. 23 hours after she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Her brothers, sisters and friends took turns lying next to her during the night. That was heartbreaking to see. They wanted to warm her up. Strangely her body never went into rigor mortis. She stayed flexible.....RIP little Sunshine - I am privileged to have had you in my life. We will miss you. Fly high with All the other Kittiez Girl. (Amanda - Admin)

Just a funny story about Sophia (Sofie/Soefsies) for all our Karoo Cat House Friendz....A few days ago I asked (on our area's WhatsApp group) if anyone has seen Sophia, as she didn't come home the day before. Now my neighbours, Johan and Alida, are the owners of N3 Towing, that operates on the N3 towards Durban etc. They have a huge workshop here as Johan is also a mechanic. Alida replied on the group that Sophia now seems to be working for N3 Towing most of the time. Sophia is self-appointed Chief Mouser at the workshop and catching mice around the workshop! Lololol They let her be and she seems to love it there, as she is a people's cat and I think it is too lonely for here here with just me :-) she only comes home for a quick bite usually and then disappears again in less than 5 minutes. I was patrolling the street with my torch just now....and guess where Sophia came from? The N3 Towing yard!! Thank You Johan and Alida, for being kind to Sofie and for Loving animals as well! This morning I only had enough tinned food for The Catz untill tomorrow night. Look at this now!!! I got all of these with the Donations from Leen Den Exter, Tanya Williamson and Lida van Zyl!! THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH!!!!! After the quick Vet stop in Colesberg today, to just inform them that Debbie had passed away in the car, I went to OK to buy the food. It is a bit cheaper there than here in Philippolis, and sometimes they don't have cat food at the Bangladeshi shops as well. I am so very grateful Leen, Tanya and Lida - you are our Cat Angels!! 30/12/2022

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - this is not an easy post in many ways, and breaks my heart on many levels. This afternoon will be my 3rd visit to Karoo Vet in Colesberg, in less than a week. Little Debbie (pics below) is about 6 months old. She is tiny and the size of a 2 month old Kitten. This is due to many factors including her Feral Mom, Lily-Rose, not having sufficient milk for her litter. Pierre Knobel Artist helped me a few months ago when he took her and her brothers and sisters and bottle fed them for me for a few weeks. This was to try and help them get the vital nutrients they needed to help them survive. Pierre, I really want to thank you for giving your time and effort when they were in dire need! 3 weeks ago I had to let her little brother, Jerry, cross the Rainbow Bridge, together with his little Friend, Teddy, from another Feral, Fiona, who also suffered from the same fate. I had to take them to Dr Leon in Fauresmith on a Sunday evening, so that he could end their suffering. Little Debbie started breathing fast last night. She is extremely tired and I will have to let Dr Charmaine help her cross the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Although Little Debbie is so tiny, she has always been the one running around and biting the other Kittens' tails to play. It is heartbreaking to see her this way and I have been crying a lot of tears since last night. Dr Charmaine is fully booked today but they are squashing us in at 4pm. I will be spending most of today with Little Debbie. I have lost around 20 Kittens over the past few months - my heart and body feels like it can't handle the pain and suffering anymore and I have fallen into severe depression which is not good on all levels. I really feel like giving up. It is extremely difficult for 1 person to run a Cat Rescue and everything it entails. Emotionally and financially. This brings me to my 2nd difficult issue. Money. I've already had Vet and transport costs of more than R4 000-00 on my December salary. This means that there is not enough money to feed everyone in January. I feed about 70 Cats every day. And no money for diesel, should I need to go to the Vet in January. At the beginning of December 2020 I also had a crisis and asked You, our Karoo Cat House Friendz, for assistance. I was overwhelmed by your reaction and soooo thankful, as your donations enabled me to feed everyone for that December! Thank You again!! Now time has come for me to ask you again, and I hate asking for help, as those who know me can tell you. But for the Catz I have to ask........... If you have anything to spare, and would like to donate it for a good cause, please donate it to The Catz here.......I don't steal their money and only use donated money for the Catz. Most of my salary goes towards the Catz in any case but now there is not enough left to feed them in January. The diesel for 1 vet trip is R300 and it is an hour's drive there, and an hour back. The car was last serviced in Nelspruit in 2016, and I simply can't afford to have it checked and serviced now, as my money just goes into the catz. The clutch plate is starting to give problems and if that goes, I will have no transport/ambulance. The driver's door broke on Saturday and i can only open it from the outside now. Costs just keep mounting. I want to Thank You in advance if you are willing to donate - your donation means everything to these Catz! Thank You! Below, with the pics of Little Debbie, is also a pic of my bank account details. We go through 6 tins of Cat food a day and about 10kg of dry food every 2-3 days. I also go through 1 jar of Kitten Milk (R250) a week as a supplement for the 7 malnourished Kittens. Then I also use 1 tin of Hills special AD food (R35 a tin) a day for the blind Feral, Ginger, who lives in the kitchen, and has various health issues. You will find a pic of Ginger, below as well. His story will be told on another day. So PLEASE, if you can spare any donation, please send it this way. Thank you so much, and for reading till the end. Lots of love from All of us ### (Amanda - admin)

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - Tewis (left), former Feral, Willis (right), all The Other Catz, and I, would like to say a Huge Thank You to Madalene Buys, for her generous donation today. Madalene is our other Admin on this page. Madalene, Thank You so much for thinking of us here and making a difference in the Cats' lives!! Your donation will be used for much needed diesel, as it takes quite a bit to get sick Kitties to the Vet. You are a true Cat Angel!! It is also a big day for Madalene, her husband, their Cats and Dogs, and other pets, as they are moving from the farm near Marydale, to their town house in Kenhardt today!! It is a long night ahead for them still as the main truck will be driving tonight. The day has been chaotic, as with all moves, and I'm sure they must all be bone tired by now. Good luck with your move Sus, and we wish you all the best for your new life in town!! Thank you again for thinking of The Catz even on such a busy day! Now you need to let us know when the House Warming Party will be! ;-) Have a lovely evening Friendz - Love from All of us ### (Amanda - Admin)

01/12/2022

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - Yes, I have been relatively quiet on the posting side.....I still can't access all the functions I used to be able to, since FB has changed whatever they changed on the pages section. It really is frustrating, not even allowing me to post pictures most of the time!!! We have had quite a few Sad Times lately with the loss of quite a few Kitties......most of them were newborns, and others slightly older.....and then also Nikita who had to cross The Rainbow Bridge 2 weeks ago.....I find it very very difficult to make posts about losing my Catz....so I don't often do that. We have had difficult situations here with all sorts of things and currently, I also have a Feral, Ginger, who needs intensive care. I'm not sure that Ginger is going to make it. Forgive me if I can't go into much detail because then the tears just start pouring out again and all the sadness comes back into my body. Ginger is in a large cage here in the kitchen and I'm trying to give him the love he never had during his healthy years. He gets his medication and eye drops...but it seems he has lost most of his eyesight and his body is slowly slowing down. So please forgive me if I don't post much. My time is divided between work and Catz, and very little time for anything else. The heat here is straight from Hell at this point and everyone is suffering because of it. I've had quite enough of summer and can't wait for winter again LOLOLOL Just wanted to check in with everyone and let you know that we are still here. Hope you are all well and that your Furries are doing well! Take care Friendz, and we hope you sleep well tonight. Love from All of Us ###

Your donation will go towards much needed tinned food and I assure you that they will enjoy every bite! ;-) Love from All of Us here at The Karoo Cat House ###x (I wanted to attach a picture but FB is not allowing me to do so :-( )

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - Vinnie Vincent has covered himself with a blanket and decided that he was going to do absolutely nothing on this Public Holiday! Seeing that there is no braaing happening here - he feels the bed is a better place on National Braai Day! Vincent is also a bit upset as there is a large newcomer since last night. Koning/King, the 14 year old Labrador, joined The Karoo Cat House last night! Koning has been living with many people since he was a puppy, but now he has found his Forever Home! Koning has always wondered around in the streets looking for love and attention. This has become worrying as his hips are not so well anymore and he can't move out of a vehicle's way fast. His elderly owner is also going to Durban for a while tomorrow, so it was decided that Koning can move in with us. I will be feeding The Cat, Tigerina Ballerina, at his house every day. Below are pics of Koning last night, and right now, relaxing and just enjoying being loved. He is not interested in trying to get out of the yard, follows me around, and just wants to know that there is someone near him. It looks as if he smiles when he looks at me. He ignores The Catz completely! Some of them of course have eyes as big as saucers! Lolol They are not quite sure what this huge tail wagging beast is! Lololol I don't even know if Koning can bark, so it will be lovely to hear his voice at some point. Welcome Koning - we hope that you have many more Golden Years left to spend with us! Have a great day Karoo Cat House Friendz! Love from All of Us ### (Amanda - Admin)
