Cold strong wind blowing. Sad day.... Nandji and the 3 small kittens who died within 3 weeks of being born, are lying together in a grave. Their (feral) mom watching from a distance. Nandji loved kittens. Now they are together. The strong wind helps to dry the tears before they get a chance to run down your cheeks. You keep on thinking about the last hug he gave you at the vet yesterday (he loved to give hugs)...and when you had to loosen that hug and put him on the table for his last injection....time for you to close your eyes while touching him and telling him you love him....untill the vet says, it's over.....More than a 100 graves in the garden. It never gets easier :-( (Pic below....Nandji on the right and his brother, Spokie, on the left. I somehow think Spokie is going to pine away now. He loved Nandji more than anything.) RIP

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz.....and so we had another break in yesterday while at the Vet in Colesberg. Came home after taking Bubbles, Daisy and Nandji to Dr Charmaine, and walked into this. They broke one of the glass panels with a very old horse shoe of mine...they proceeded to force open the double doors on the back porch and 1 or more small built youngsters, or perhaps kids actually came inside through the Trellidor. Yes you read it right. Climbed through the Trellidor!! After ripping off one of the closed curtains. I had a feeling something was going to happen yesterday. My 6th sense is never far off. After being inside the house they carefully forced the double doors closed so that at 1st glance you would think only the small window was broken. I found a specific brass piece inside the house amongst the pieces of glass that fits between the door and it's frame and that is how I realized that both glass/wood doors had been forced open. They also damaged the door handle section. Strangely enough there was very little glass inside the house....most was spread outside on the porch as if someone was breaking the window from the inside?! Inside the house there were items lying on the kitchen floor in 2 places and a drawer in my bedroom was open which was not like that when I left. The Feralz in the front part of the house were stressed out of their minds and terrified for hours. Which means the low life bastards were in there as well. The Catz that normally sleep on the daybed in the lounge were gone and only appeared again just before dark with their eyes as round as saucers. All telling me that these bastards were inside. Whatever was stolen would have been small items in order to hand them through the Trellidor and at this point I don't know what was stolen. I can't see anything quickly but will probably know once I start looking for items and can't find them. I feel defeated, devastated and I am very very cross. I can't replace the glass panel and would not even know how to keep it in place because they broke the thin wooden frame that secures the glass in place. Instead of the glass there is now a piece of cardboard with a message from me in Afrikaans. Because they understand Afrikaans. For this page I am translating it into English. " Too lazy to finish school, too lazy to go and study....too lazy to work....can only steal!!! F×$&>ng Bastards!! Children of S@t@n!!" This message describes 80% of the youngsters in this town. If I remember correctly the High School had a 0% Matric pass rate last year. This should tell you everything. These bastards didn't come in from the street, they came in from the street behind me through my neighbour at the back's yard. I went there with the police in the van and showed them the footprints....also the footprints of a small girl wearing court tipe shoes. When we were standing there other neighbours came and told us about more criminal activities in that street throughout the night. These neighbours also told us that the husband was knocked off his bicycle by high school children last week. He had a bad fall on the tar. While lying there they laughed at him. On another day these kids also pushed one of their friends in front of this man's car as he was driving past. This kid fell down in the road and he almost drove over her!! It seems the high school kids are getting way out of control and nothing is being done about it by the school. They have been informed of the activities. Over the years I have received numerous animals that were hit with bricks by these learners such as Tortoises, etc..... According to someone in the brown community, there are youngsters back in town that were locked up for housebreaking. They say the Police know that they are back. So why are they not being arrested? A few days ago a whole house was turned inside out and everything thrown on the floor in town. My sympathy to those home owners. LIVING IN A SMALL TOWN IS A MAJOR SECURITY RISK. You are being watched constantly. In my case these criminals think I'm very rich because they watch the large amounts of cat food being loaded into my car. What they don't understand is that basically my whole salary goes into that. I don't live like a queen. There is not 1 item of clothing that I have that doesn't have holes in it. I can't afford new clothes. My tennis shoes that I bought at Pep last year are falling apart. No money for new shoes. My teeth have broken off in many places, so much so that I can't go to the shop without wearing a mask to hide my mouth. The roof of the house has so many holes in it that the ceilings have started falling out because of the water when it rains. I haven't had warm water in the taps for many years as I can't afford a new geyser. The list goes on. Yet these bastards think I have money and come and break in and damage my house/things every time. Do you understand a bit more about why I feel defeated? I wish I could catch them just once. Because they will stop breathing after our meeting. Their actions are starting to wake up major future racial conflict in this town and it will not end well. As I'm speaking to you here, I am waiting for the Police Finger Print guy to arrive from Bloemfontein. No clue when he will arrive..... Back to the Catz.....Bubbles stayed behind at Dr Charmaine and he will be operated on, on Tuesday morning. He has a huge growth under his right ear going from the cheek to his neck. It has started bleeding over the past week. This is possibly cancerous. It is a big operation and the side of his face may be paralized afterwards as there are a lot of nerve endings in that area. Please pray for him to make it through the op and recover well!! He will be staying in hospital for a day or more after the op. Nandji and Daisy had injections again for their inflamed gums....and are already looking and eating better. Sorry for the long ranting and raving post, but I needed to let you know what is going on here. The break-ins really break my spirit and I can truly say the 8 years that I've lived here, have been the worst in my life. Not only crime wise but seeing how many animals are being abused here. Last night I heard about a malnourished girl dog that was rescued by kind ladies after being chained up her whole life and just being used for breeding. She is such a beautiful dog!! My heart physically aches for what many of these animals are going through.....Hope you have a good Sunday Friendz and that you please help those who are in need who do not speak human. Thank you. Lots of Love, from The Catz and I ###x (Boyboy in the tree below, says to send you Hugz from him too :-) )

“I used to feed the ravens, usually a box of Kraft dinner. I’d just put the food in the front yard for them. Then one day I was miserable and tired, and when a raven tapped its beak on my window looking for food, I screamed at it, ‘I’m sick of feeding you! Bring ME something for a change!’. Then the raven looked at the food and then looked at me and took off without eating anything. In about half an hour it came back with this big white eagle feather and dropped it on the patio, then looked at me and then ate its food. My husband was flabbergasted. It kind of spooked me but I still love ravens.” — Lorna
Here is a teaching I want to share with these stories.
Remember, every time you think animals don't understand.
~Wamakaskan~
Wamakaskan is often mistranslated as “animals.” The word means “living beings of the earth,” and it includes the ikce wicasa oyate, the Human Nation. Oyate, “nation,” doesn’t have political implications like English “nation.” It refers to beings that are alike: they have a spirit, a life, a mind, and a language, in the same way as the ikce wicasa. “Animal” is a poor translation because it distinguishes between humans and the rest of Creation. It creates a hierarchy, an assumption that contradicts the Lakota belief system. In Lakota, we are related to all Creation. We are all part of the wamakaskan oiyate. Consequently we are all equally important. If anything, I, as a man, must practice humility toward the rest of Creation.

I am humbled by another generous donation towards Cat Food from a former Colleague and Good Friend!! THANK YOU so much Cat Angel!!! The Catz and I are very thankful and appeciate your donation so much!!! A few weeks ago many tins like these were bought with your previous donation, and now more can be bought for this month!! Your donation goes towards the Kittiez who need special soft food to make it easier for them to eat and gives them extra nourishment. Sometimes I mix it with a little water to make it even softer and the Urgent Care is of course fantastic should a Cat or Dog be very ill and need force feeding with an injection (without a needle of course). Thank you again Cat Angel for caring for the Catz here at The Karoo Cat House! Lots of Love from All of Us :-) ######

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - hope your week is going well so far and that it's not too cold where you are! As you can see below, Charlene just loves to lie in my old enamel wash basin and she doesn't like to share it! ;-) Some nights are freezing cold and others not so bad - but, I think we are still going to get a lot more cold days and nights in July. The trees here have only really started dropping their leaves this past week and it's the end of June already! My post tonight is to say a Very Very Big Thank You to the anonymous Cat Angel who paid an amount into my account today under the name LIFELINE. This truly is a Lifeline!! Whoever you are, I can't THANK YOU enough!! Your donation will ensure that there is diesel to be able to go to town every day to feed the Catz and Dogz there and enable me to take the Catz to the Vet in Colesberg. You are making a world of difference in our lives. Last night after working out my budget I realized that after paying everything I only have R67-00 on my name for July. That will not buy enough diesel to feed the animals in town every day and definitely not for even one trip to the Vet, which is 120km there and back. I could hardly sleep worrying about where I would get money from for fuel and nevermind airtime if I would have to make phonecalls. This morning a huge other financial issue came down squarly on me that I have been trying to keep at bay since 2020 when I lost my job at the beginning of Covid. Now I can't keep it at bay any longer. All of these issues plus the continuous stress of the big burglary and the criminals trying to get back inside, made me want to just end it all today so that I could leave this earth and just get away from everything. Stop the bus, I want to get off!! Life has become too much for me to handle and the financial pressure of caring for these animals is almost out of control. Every day I just want to give up. So when the LIFELINE money came in I just burst out crying. During that period I also contacted someone close to me and said that I don't know how to handle this other financial issue and I'm close to a total breakdown. This person then offered to be a mediator and much more, to keep the wolves from the door for now. You know who you are, I Thank You so Very Much for Everything!!! Without you and the LIFELINE person, I may not have been here tonight. I also want to Thank Everyone who has been so kind and caring recently, not knowing all the details but knowing that something is wrong. It is a Huge responsibility to rescue animals, not only financially but emotionally too. I get the pieces that are left, if any....and then I feel guilty about it too. One person alone can't do everything all the time. Thank you to the person close to me and the LIFELINE donor who gave me hope again today. You guys don't realize what a difference you made today. I really appreciate you!! Meanwhile, crime in Philippolis continues to escalate with 5 burglaries (that I know of) in just over 24 hours. People are scared and many are becoming furious about the Police not doing anything about it. We are taking the law into our own hands now as that is the only way. I found someone tresspassing and stealing items somewhere today....and he was dealt with by the land owner. Rightly so! We have had enough!! Our Basic Human Rights of being able to live safely and freely is being taken away from us by a Police Station that is not capable of doing what it is supposed to. All of this stress is just adding to the mix that is getting me down. Nobody can live like this! Enough ranting and raving from me for one night ;-) It warms my heart to know that there are still people in the world who care about other people and also about animals. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! Stay safe, stay warm and please care for Those Who Do Not Speak Human, Karoo Cat House Friendz :-) Lots of Love, from The Catz and I ###

16/06/2024

Dear Karoo Cat House Friendz - hope you are enjoying your long weekend! Yesterday was Vet Day with Dr Charmaine at Karoo Vet in Colesberg. Actually Vet Day was supposed to be last Saturday, but I was too scared to leave town for long after the big robbery at my house 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I took the chance to go while my neighbour Michelle appointed herself as policewoman to keep a watchfull eye over my house. Thank you so much Michelle - I really appreciate you!! Daisy and Nandji went to see Dr Charmaine as they have issues with their gums which are Feline Aids/Leukemia related. This makes it difficult for them to eat and the injections help to manage that. Dr Charmaine says Nandji's teeth need a cleaning too, so hopefully we can do that next month. Poor Nandji peed on his blanket on the way there, but Dr Charmaine saved the day by giving him some newspapers for his carrier for the drive back ;-) Daisy was not impressed during the drive back and she seriously complained while trying to escape from her carrier. Nandji just lay there with his eyes closed, pretenting not to be in the car at all! Lolol No further news from the police regarding the robbery and I don't think anything will happen either. I have never been so disappointed by a Police Station as this one. No photos were taken at the crime scene and no interest was shown in the shoe prints of the criminals, etc. No interest in the same shoe prints and suspects coming past my house again after I made them aware of it!! These criminals have already tried twice (after the initial robbery) to come back in again, while knowing I was inside the house. These two times are what I'm aware of, maybe they have tried even more! It is day 6 of me waiting for police to come out after that 2nd attempt while I was inside. Police promised that they would send a vehicle "before close of business" that day....well it's 6 days now!! I didn't know that police had "close of business" times? Police are part of the country's Essential Services which should operate 24/7!!! The second attemp was trying to get into the house through the cat door, while the light in that room was on!! I happened to realize what was happening and started yelling and swearing at them in no uncertain terms. They retreated but stayed in the yard for many hours afterwards. The cat door has been made even smaller now. Suspicious activity by guys circling the block where I live, is being made off as nonsense by the police. Apparently I blame everyone walking past my house as possible suspects....but if the shoe prints are the same as some of those who broke in, then that is obviously suspicious!!! And if other footprints show that certain people, who do not work or live in the area, are circling the block, then that is suspicious too!! If the Police in Philippolis can't even look after a special vote ballot box, how can they even solve crimes?!! The community has lost complete trust in them and many people feel unsafe. Two couples who wanted to buy houses here have also contacted me regarding the crime situation and are now re-thinking their plans because of the police not doing what they are being paid for. They have seen my posts on social media on various platforms. Friday night there was an armed robbery at two grocery stores with shots fired randomly. I'm sure the criminals were laughing all the way out of town, knowing they will never be caught. This town has become like the Wild West and criminals do whatever they want even when people are watching them. Every second of every day I now live in fear. I moved here almost 8 years ago from the Nelspruit/White River area to get away from the crime, but now it's becoming the same here. The big difference there was that we had armed response companies, while in this town, you're on your own. Citizens will have to take the law into their own hands because the police have no clue how to do their work.....Below are some pictures I took yesterday on the way back from Colesberg....Daisy and Nandji (who never sat still enough for me to get decent pics :-) ) ....some Geese and Turkeys at the Vet....the mighty Orange River which is the crossing line between the Free State and the Northern Cape....and some lovely Kapokbosse which are in full white bloom now :-) Stay safe Karoo Cat House Friendz.....stay warm....and sleep well. Love from All of Us ###
