My little trooper mustard ❤️

It’s been 3 months since his bone cancer diagnosis, 2 weeks ago he was at the vets for a nasty fast growing lump on his side which had opened up and wouldn’t heal which is also suspected to be cancerous, we were just waiting on the medicine to heal up the infection that had developed in the area due on Monday. But a few days ago his breathing became very laboured, we obviously booked him in for a check up straight away he had X-rays on his chest a whopping 10ml of fluid drained from his lungs and my poor boy has now been diagnosed with lymphoma too.

We took the option to bring him home with palliative care, despite all the nastiness going on in his body he still is running round and playing! every extra day we get together is amazing… but we take it day by day making sure his quality of life is there and he’s not suffering thankfully the vets have said he still isn’t showing any signs of pain

Keep fighting little man

Got some cool new bits for the fuzzies, for the hot weather.

Some water and food dispensers, that are a really good size so they can’t keep flipping their water bowls when it’s hot 🔥just a bit of a faff getting them to fit in the mesh as they are so big.

And a thermometer that links to my phone soo I can check their temperature where ever I am and don’t have to worry about them getting too hot. it can also link to air con to automatically turn it on. 🌡️

If anyone else is interested the feeders and water feeders were only £2.66 each from shein and the thermometer is from Amazon (most only connect while in the house via Bluetooth this is a Wi-Fi version )

Hope everyone’s fuzzies are keeping cool and safe !

My loving boy mustard unfortunately has been diagnosed with bone cancer today . He went to the vets after he very quickly developed a hard lump on his head.

My first rescue ferret along side custard, he was passed around, I was at least his 5th home and from what we were told when we got him he would now be at least 6 yr old , but for the last 3 years he’s been with me and he has been one of the sweetest and most affectionate ferrets.

The tumour is only in its early stages but has grown in the few days from his check up to his X-rays so we don’t know how long we will have left with him but we do know he’s going to be so spoiled and get all the cuddles he loves ❤️

We have some sad news

Our beautiful little girl Mochi gained her wings last night 💔
she was suffering with pyometra, which she hid so well and we only noticed last night after she couldn’t hide her symptoms anymore.

We took her to an emergency vets who did all they could to try and stable her and make her well enough for surgery with our usual vets in the morning but unfortunately she passed away to the anaesthetic while they were trying to get a cannula in to give her fluids and antibiotics.

Its so difficult that no emergency vets have an exotic vet in overnight, as her condition has a good survival rate after surgery and she maybe wouldn’t have needed the anaesthetic to help find her veins .

But now she’s in no pain and with her daddy Rupert

Dook in peace little Mochi

Heaven gained an angel last night.

Our sweet boy Rupert❤️

After taking a turn and a vet trip yesterday he was put in icu over night unfortunately, his lungs were filled with fluid which returned a few hours after draining they suspect lymphoma, we will know more when his labs are back but he grew weaker and the vets let us know that he may not make it and what the best thing for him would be .

So we got there in time to hold him while he went over the rainbow bridge .

He was such a special boy our 2nd ferret and we will miss him so much.

Dook in peace little man

He's an absolute stunner, full angora panda hob

We're thinking of naming him Winter🌨️

Little man is almost ready to join the buisness he has had a couple of intros to build his confidence ❤️

Bagherra has healed amazingly the infection has finally stayed away!!! But temperment wise she's being a bit of a bully to all but 2 of her closest noodles.

And then just as we thought everything was getting back to normal my Georgie Porgie needed an emergency vet visit :(.

He was lethargic, and just didn't look right his nose / snout was very slightly swollen on one side, over night he deteriorated. Dihorea, stopped eating, bloody mucus or puss sealing his noise. It was late the evening before so I had already messaged the vets as soon as I noticed him off colour to get him in first thing the following day.
He was given some medicine and a critical care carnivore food. So back to hand feeding a ferret. Luckily he ate some of the food i syringed into his month and water. Once he started getting food his p**p was back to normal after a few days of hand feeding and keeping his noise clear from blockage hes starting to feel better, he started eating the vet food by himself and drinking from a bottle and last night he ate some of his normal food.
He is back to the vets tomorrow to have his teeth cleaned incase this is where the infection came from. But hopefully he will be feeling much better soon

*the picture looks gruesome but it's just the sterile manuka honey fill which helps keep the wound clean, it's almost fully healed over now*

Bagheera had her post op check today.

her surgeon was pleasantly surprised with her progress!!!

He explained it was a very demanding procedure, but she has made a really good recovery so far. There doesn't seem to be any nerve damage in the area, she can blink and feel her ear.

She will continue on antibiotics untill the wound if fully healed over.

And he gave her an affectiinate little nose to nose boop before seeing her off.

Hopefully only a few more days untill she can join her sister pennywise who has been missing her.

Today Bagheera is back to the vets to have her drain removed.

I've really struggled with her little face as I am very sqeamish, and I've had to over come that to keep ontop of keeping her clean and give her medicine. It has been even worse over the last 24 hours as she had ripped out a stitch opening up the wound.

She seems well in herself, so hopefully today will go smoothly, and hopefully they don't see signs of infecton.

***update.
Well it was a quick and rather traumatic vet trip on my part 🤢, so as if i thought the drain in her face was squeamish enough . The vets just removed the stitches and the drain while i was holding her. I had to close my eyes... Bagheera was so brave and tolerable of this. I was expecting her to be sedated for it to be removed and her stitched back up but they have left the holes open to heal over which i now have to rub cream into as well as cleaning.

The culture test didnt bring back any result which i dont know if that is a good thing or a bad thing so she will be staying in the same antibiotics.

4 weeks old tomorrow 💕 and we think we have a name Maui?

So Bagheera had her xray and treatment today...

And its not good, 💔 they have given her a guarded prognosis.
The first thing the vet told me is that she had a broken bone in her skull!!!! I was shocked, the infection is so aggressive it has corroded the bone.
They have taken a sample to test the bacteria and for now have given her a wide range of antibiotics. Untill we get those results back, they have drained the absess and insurted a drain in her face so it can continue to express itself.
We will try any and all treatment we can!
I just hope she has the fight to put in, she is the sweetest little character.
The only possitive the vet had, was the eye in that area hasn't yet been damaged by the infection.

So I've been worrying about the temperature for the next two days as the ferret house is only kept approx 4 °c cooler than the outside temperature and so as to not risk anything i wanted to try and bring the clan inside if need be.

Which isn't easy when you have a large business and they have their own out house.

So after much thinking on how i could do this last minute on a budget, i have bought and borrowed some dog crates. Space wise some of my guys may be a little cramped for a couple of hours but i felt like this is the better option as they can have play time later .

So now my kitchen is full of 9 crates for temperary housing just incase its gets too hot out there i can bring them inside and keep them cool.

Hope everyone fuzzies keep cool and safe over the next two days.

So more bad news for Bagheera, she was rushed into the vets again today!

From 9pm last night and 9am this morning her little face had trippled insize! The infection is back and worse than ever, this time she is so swollen her eye is forced shut.

She will need an operation on her tiny face to attempt to remove all the dead flesh to try to clear the infection. But unfortunately there is no guarantee and the operation has risks.

Unfortunately the vet who needs to do the op isnt in today so she will be back ASAP, she is coming back home with some more medication untill she can be booked in. please 🙏🤞 that my sweet girl will recover from this.

I am heart broken she has had to suffer so much all because i trialed a new food, it was in their enclosure for no more than 30 minutes when i was making a soupy for one of my ferrets and decided i wasn't comfortable with the bone size in comparison to their usual feed and removed all the bowls and re fed with their usual meats albion and nature's menu which has a much finer grind.

I won't share a photo here as it isnt nice to see.

So instead here is bean at 3 week old today.

15/07/2022

Someones starting to resemble a ferret now 😍

Im so proud of how strong this little bean has been

13/07/2022

Little bean is still doing really well. He is 17 days old now.

From my research we can now start to reduce his feeds down to every 3 hours so over the next few days i will slowly be adding a few mins between each feed untill we get to the 3 hour mark i must say i am looking forward to fewer night feeds 😴.
But its been worth it keeping this little dude going, i am feeling really hopefully thats hes going to make it, but cant wait to get to the 3 week mark and start weining him.

09/07/2022

We are at the 3 days mark for hand feeding and little one is doing great!

He will be 2 week old tomorrow

He camaflages well with his bedding can't wait to see what colour he will be once grown 🤞🤞

07/07/2022

Well we've made it the first 24 hours!!!

He's eating and toileting 💕 although its a pain getting up every 2 hours in the night its super rewarding keeping this little guy going.
