HARRY - This beautiful boy was returned after 8 months. Which is so sad! His foster has written all about Harry as she knows him so well. He really does love her and Spike. He has had a really bad start to his rehoming life but bears no grudges or hangups! He just gets on with whatever life throws at him, but always happy, always wanting the reassuring cuddle.

His genuine forever home IN SCOTLAND is out there we just need to find it....please help!

* Harry is a sensitive boy, raised voices upset and confuse him.
* He loves the outdoors and enjoys his walks.
* Garden that is enclosed and safe.
*A resident dog for him to buddy up to as he loves company.
* Someone who is patient, tolerant and understanding of rescue dogs.
* Children over age of 14yrs only.
* He is neutered. Fully vaccinated.
* All bloods negative for entry into UK.
* Medium size boy
* NB- SCOTLAND ONLY applications as there will be a phased introduction to any new family.

Application and home check apply
Please send an email to [email protected]
............From Harry's foster mum...........

Harry is a very clever boy who thrives in an environment where he has clear boundaries, a good routine and a confident owner who rewards good behaviour positively. He is honestly the happiest dog I have ever come across despite having lots of upheaval in his short life. Everyone on our dog walks adores him and one of our neighbours buys biscuits specially so she can give Harry a treat every time we pass her house.

I recently used a new home boarder while I was on holiday and she commented on how clever he was as he picked things up very quickly with her and was very obedient.

He can be a bit wary of new humans but falls in love quickly and gives the best cuddles. He is very social with other dogs and loves being out and about. He can be quite strong on his lead but that’s improving and I think will not be a long term issue for anyone rehoming him. Occasionally, he will take a dislike to a dog whilst out on a walk – he’s not a fan of pugs/bulldogs or big hairy Chows. However, he gives them a wide berth rather than get into a confrontation.

He does love to be off lead but has a high chase drive so I would recommend only letting off in a safe environment like a secure field because he will take off if he sees a bike, squirrel, cat, etc. For me, he does come back very promptly and it’s just a moment of madness when his natural instinct takes over but it’s not worth the risk of him accidentally putting himself at risk.

I don’t think Harry has ever lived without another dog so would be happiest in a home with at least one other dominant resident dog. He does like to play rough but my elderly Jack Russell adores that and they spend hours wrestling with each other. However, he has lived previously with other calmer dogs who don’t entertain this sort of play so he will accept that situation – especially if he can have play buddies while out the house.

From experience of other Rommies, Harry is very easy to deal with and has few of the quirks associated with former street dogs. His worst quirk is a pathological hatred of flies – especially if one gets in the house. He knows life is better now and appreciates the good things in life like a comfy bed and regular feeds.

He will bark when someone comes to the door but will run away initially when someone new comes into the house. He’s never shown any aggression to a visitor. I ask everyone coming to the house to give him a treat so it’s a positive experience for him.

He has happily lived with children but due to his strength on the lead , I would recommend dog savvy kids aged over 10.

He’s fine with the vet. I’ve been taking him down monthly while my other dog gets regular treatment.

He can be happily left for a few hours (has on occasion been left over seven hours overnight with no issue) – but is happier with the run of the house and a view outside rather than being restricted to one room or a cage.

He’s very clean in the house and will wake you up if he has a tummy issue overnight and needs out in the garden.

He’s happy in the car but can be car sick if travelling country roads – though that might just be my driving!

This really needs to be Harry’s right forever home because he’s had a few new starts which haven’t worked due to, in my view, people not managing his needs effectively. Like any street dog, the pack hierarchy in the house is important and he needs to know he is not the top dog in the pack.
I’m only not adopting him because of the long-term, expensive medical requirements of my existing dog which also means we need to stick to short but often dog walks.

PATCH is celebrating his 2nd resc-annuary year, so decided to do his most favourite thing - sleep!

Such a big difference than when he first arrived. He ate anything and everything in sight, including table legs🫣

He was very naughty, and would jump onto work tops to get food even though he had plenty🙄

His parents never gave up on him even though he drove them to distraction because they loved him and gave him as much time as he wanted.

They feel that Patch has been with them forever. He has the best of both worlds and so much freedom around the fields where he lives with his 4 brothers.

Once abandoned and unloved in Romania, now treasured and showered with love.
Enjoy what life brings you Patch💜

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐄 & 𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐖𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐃!

After 252 years of hunting wildlife, the Lanarkshire & Renfrewshire Foxhounds met for the final time on Saturday 4th March. This comes just weeks after hunt saboteurs broke the news that another hunt - The Fife Foxhounds - were to disband.

This seismic victory comes just a month after the Hunting with Dogs Scotland Bill was passed. Clearly the restrictions in place were not workable for the L&R hunt and as a result, the hunt have thrown in the towel.

We are ecstatic beyond belief to see the demise of the L&R as our group and our predecessors Clydeside Hunt Sabs worked tirelessly for years bringing this hunt to their knees. Thanks and recognition also go out to other Scottish Sab groups past and present, our friends over the years Edinburgh Hunt Sabs as well as Scottish Borders Hunt Saboteurs, Grampian Hunt Sabs and Perthshire Hunt Sabs, who’ve all stood next to us in the killing fields at one time or another.

Our group has sabbed every meet we possibly could over recent years saving the lives of countless foxes, stopping dig-outs and exposing the hunt at every opportunity for their cruel and sadistic pastime. We have dealt with everything the hunt could throw at us but we never once backed down.

We are hearing that more hunts in Scotland are to follow in the footsteps of both The Fife Foxhounds and The L&R. Watch this space for news.

A message to any hunts that remain in Scotland: Expect to see us soon. We will not stop until fox hunting in Scotland is consigned to the history books once and for all.

Long Run the Fox!

Glasgow Hunt Sabs

HEARTBREAKING NEWS 💔

Many of you saw Keanu on the Panorama programme, and were horrified by his deformities caused by poor breeding. Following X-rays it was agreed that surgery would be too complex and not in his welfare interest, and we opted to manage him clinically under the close supervision of our vets.

Keanu went to the vets early this week for another check up and sadly it wasn't good news. He was only 8 months old when he arrived and still not fully grown. As he grew and gained muscle this has unavoidably put more pressure onto his joints. The vets felt Keanu was now beginning to show pain responses in his front legs, and as he is still developing this would only deteriorate further. Over the last few weeks as the weather has begun to warm slightly, we have also noticed that Keanu was struggling with extreme shortness of breath.

After a lengthy and difficult discussion with our vets we sadly agreed that complex surgery to help Keanu’s breathing wouldn’t be in his best interests when he's also beginning to show pain in his legs. After a very difficult discussion both with our vets and our team at the centre, we made the heartbreaking decision to let Keanu pass peacefully before he really began to struggle.

How many young dogs need to die before bully breeders take responsibility for the genetic timebombs they are creating? As shown in the Panorama programme, Keanu is far from a one-off example. This is something we are seeing all too often. Yet the public contine to fuel the demand for these dogs bred with such extreme features it's killing them. It's time for change so dogs like Keanu do not have to suffer. We'll miss you big boy, and will keep campaigning in your memory 🌈

Update...Molly has been adopted and settling in nicely with her sister Sydney.
After a horrendous and unloved life, you will be forever loved, treasured and walked.
You will feel the grass beneath your feet and wind through your fur with parents who have the biggest heart for you 💜

FOR ADOPTION – MOLLY 4yrs old on 14th April.
Molly is the sweetest little girl you could wish to meet. She loves all humans, dogs, toys and flowers. There is nothing this little girl does not like, which is surprising given her terrible background. When she arrived at foster she was only 4.5kgs and very under weight. She is now a healthy girl at 9 kgs. Molly loves food and will eat whatever is at her height. She is not aggressive in any way – quite the opposite!

Molly is a standard short haired dachshund . She was removed from a breeder. She spent all of her life in a crate giving birth and seeing her babies taken away to be sold! We have no idea how many times she gave birth but no-one cared about her.
Eventually she was saved, and we took her under our wing at DWB Scotland.

Molly walks well on a lead and has really good recall. She lives with 4 other dogs very happily and it doesn’t matter the size, she will play with any dog.
Molly is house trained and will bark in play and to talk to you. She is growing into a confident beautiful woman.
Molly can be left for short periods of time quite happily.

Molly has learned so much in foster and been so loved by her family that she has just blossomed. Although not ready to leave her foster, we are accepting applications for her.
Molly is currently being fostered in Suffolk. She is due to be spayed shortly.
Once she has recovered she will then be able to leave.

Going forward Molly would thrive in a home with a garden and a resident dog. Molly would not be suited to live in a flat.
Her new owner would need to understand the needs of a dachshund so previous experience would be good although each applicant would be vetted individually.

There are no restrictions in the type of household she can live with so children over the age 8yrs are fine.
Part of our re-homing process is that her new family would visit her a few times so be prepared to travel to Suffolk a few times for meet and greets with her. If you are unable to commit to this please do not apply.

All vaccinations have just been completed
Homecheck and adoption fees will apply

I received this beautiful email 2 days ago from a DWB adopter and thought I would share it here on our page.

For those that don't know - Lexie was handed back after a 3 day journey from Romania after only 8 hrs because she was 'being aggressive'....

It really was a mammoth task to get her safe and secure. We only achieved it by the skin of our teeth.

Anyway, this is her now 12 months down the line, living the very best life with sister Katt and mum Carol.

I would really like to thank nee and Tracey Lockwood Pelynt Kennels. Liz Akkos and all those others involved in getting this beautiful girl safe which includes those that helped in transporting both South and North of the border. Xx

So many in this situation don't make it or get stuck in kennels for months on end.

So many. many thanks to you all xx

Hi Janet

On 8th January 2022 Lexie stepped over the threshold of her new home for the first time. I can't believe it's a year already - seems like no time at all.

What a year it's been. Lexie is such an amazing dog and our home is a much richer place with her here; she's a little bundle of joy. Her confidence has grown immensely; though still a work in progress with people she doesn't know. She will happily walk past people but you see the discomfort starting in her as soon as they pay attention to her so I continue to reassure her. Things she would have tried to run away from she now goes to investigate and she sailed through fireworks night - the noises didn't bother her in the slightest. She no longer lunges at cars but I still frequently reassure her when we are near traffic. She happily travels in my camper van to go on holidays, our little home from home.

She's no longer breathing in her food. She would eat food so fast it just disappeared, just as her Foster mum Tracey said. I started her feeding with a slow feeder bowl which we no longer need to use. She is now using normal feeding bowls and she'll sometimes leave food in her bowl. I've kept her to three small meals a day because it seems to work for her. She has two food bowls - one for wet food and one for kibble; she prefers the wet food and kibble not to be mixed together.

From Lexie's point of view I think the biggest event in the year was being allowed through the baby gate into the bedroom. Her night time bed was near the baby gate which stopped her from getting access to the bedroom. Once I was sure Lexie and my cat, Katt, were getting on OK the no access for Lexie to the bedroom was lifted and she was able to sleep on the bed beside myself and Katt. She still seems to see sleeping with us on the bed as a privelage and is so happy and excited to now be fully included.

After Lexie was speyed in August her energy levels increased twofold. Since coming here in January she was in season February, then phantom pregnancy and then in season again in June. I think she must have been feeling so much better after being speyed. With me working from home it means she very seldom has to be left on her own with Katt and if I do have to leave her it's only for a short time.

She's on Pet Plan so her flea and worming and vaccinations are kept up to date. We've had no escape issues - she hasn't made any attempt to get through the garden boundaries - this had been a big worry because my house is located right beside the road. Gates are kept locked and fences secure.

It's funny how nowadays all dogs seem to have to have a breed name. I've lost count of the amount of times we've been asked "What is she?" People who own Jack Russell's see Jack Russel in her, other people see Corgi and a number of people have said they see Alsation in her face - who knows. All I do know is she is a very special dog. Her temprament is spot on for a Rat Terrier and the genetic deformity on her front legs is also known in Rat Terriers. She also sheds twice a year in Spring and Autumn same as Rat Terriers and she looks very similar to the breed. Whatever she is I'm so privelaged to have her sharing our family life.

Again a huge thank you for trusting Lexie's care to me and I will be forever grateful to you and everyone involved in the process from the point of her rescue to her journey to her home here.

Some photos attached: sound asleep at home; arriving at camp site for holiday in the camper-van and Lexie's curiosity to see what's over the wall (she always looks over walls).

I'm happy for you to share the contents of this email and photos with anyone involved with Lexie's journey who might be interested.

I hope all is well with everyone and I hope 2023 is good to you.

Best wishes
Carol
