The snow is upon us here in Middle Tennessee!
And I have a little game for our Green Mountain Mustang lovers!

Can you tell me which horse followed me all around the pasture as I checked on everyone this morning? And then, said horse requested a selfie - so of course I had to oblige!

Was it Winston 💙 or Nymeria 💜?

Adorable, Baby Boy Bear 🐻 shed his halter today! This is one of my favorite steps in the gentling process; it means they can easily be caught and haltered of their own free will.

Bear came to Midnight Stars Mustangs, less than 4 weeks ago, as a curious and friendly young gelding who really wanted (wants) to connect, and even though he’d let me lead him, pet him and groom him all over within the first few days of arrival, he stayed a little concerned about my movements for the first couple of weeks - especially on his left side (which is common for wild horses, and even domestic horses, to have a side they feel less confident with, but the left side does make it a challenge when it comes to haltering).

So (between the multiple rounds of all-day rainstorms in Middle TN and the holidays), we spent a lot of time using +R to connect and help him build confidence. Boy did he love that! And his precious personality has been blossoming every day, since!

I’ve never worked with one who so adorably shows his affections by running to the gate to see me and then trotting away bucking when I leave. He makes me wish I could spend all day just loving on him and teaching him new things. 😍

This snuggly Bear is so silly, brave and cute and he’s going to make someone a fantastic partner as his confidence continues to grow. He has so much try and willingness (he reminds me a lot of our boy, Winston). I’m gonna miss this sweet fella when the time comes. 🤎🩶

P. S. Please excuse all the mud, it’s (unfortunately) Winter time in the dirty South.

Everyone meet - Bear! 🐻
The first time I saw him I said, “That horse looks like a big ole Teddy Bear” and the name Bear just stuck. And it’s completely fitting because on day 1 he was already a snuggly bear! 🧸

Bear has been doing great! He loves pets and attention. (I even have my students petting him from the outside of the round pen after their lessons are over!) He follows me around everywhere. He gets sad when I leave the pen and pouts a little. We had our first grooming session yesterday and he really enjoyed it. 🤎

I’m truly enjoying working with this little Bear and I’m going to be a bit jealous of whomever takes him home once he’s completed all his training.

Who is this handsome young hunk that snuck on the trailer when we made a trip to Fall Creek Falls Equestrian this morning?? Here’s a little sneak peek of a new training Mustang that’s headed to our round pen! 🩶🤎

Winter is upon us and, in preparation, we did install the water trough heaters but we also left the small troughs in the pasture, just in case the Mustangs wanted options. Orion does drink from the heated trough, but he also LOVES munching on the ice in the smaller trough. He reminds me of ME munching on ice from Sonic. (If you're a Sonic fan, you know what I'm talking about.) 😉🤣💙🐴 #blmmustang #sandspringsboy #mustangorion
