Riley, a Golden Retriever owned by Chris & Janna Selfridge of East Taylor Township, Cambria County, was called to active duty on September 15, 2001 after the World Trade Center attacks on September 11th. Here Riley is in a basket being sent over a 60-foot-deep canyon at the end of a long day of search and rescue in the rubble of the North Tower. The rescue dogs would bark when finding someone alive and if someone was deceased, they would often paw at the ground or start flipping bone fragments out of the debris.

National Make A Dog's Day

Open up your heart and home to an Underdog.
While an Underdog may have special needs and a longer road to adoption, Subaru and our retailers are partnering with shelters to make sure their road ends in a loving home. This year we’re celebrating our 4th annual National Make A Dog’s Day, which encourages everyone to do something special for their dog and think about adopting an Underdog from a shelter.

For October, during Subaru Loves Pets™ month, Subaru and our retailers are donating $100 for every pet adopted from hundreds of partner shelters across the country1. Since 2008, Subaru and our retailers have donated over $42 million to national and local organizations and impacted the lives of nearly 350,000 pets. You can help us spread the word and share your own Underdog by using the hashtag on social media.
