Wishing all of my delightful handlers and their dogs, a peaceful, happy and productive year ahead.
Thank you so much for your generous, thoughtful cards, gifts and good wishes received at Christmas, all were gratefully received, your kindness is overwhelming.
It’s great to be back after the break, and goodness, I was expecting to have to motivate everyone into working this week, but you have all been incredibly enthusiastic, I’m suitably impressed; keep the determination going please, although I have been deprived of nagging anyone so far 😉
We have lots to strive towards, plenty to challenge us, but the rewards will be abundant.
As always, never compare yourself, or dog to any others in a class. We and our dogs are individuals, we learn and absorb at different rates, sometimes requiring alternate methods
This is not a failing... talk to me if you’re feeling worried or stressed, we are all in this for the same reason, please don’t ever struggle alone, it’s my privilege to teach and support each and everyone of you. I’m always happy to discuss and work for solutions, together.
Remember, consistent calm repetition, be kind and considerate to everyone in each
group.
Looking forward to a great year and lots of fun.

Maureen & Elba ❤️

Thank you to my wonderful handlers and their fabulous dogs for a great year.
We’ve certainly had our challenges again this year, the weather alone has been “interesting” at times, but we’ve worked around all of those issues together…we’re not easily beaten!
So, classes and one on ones have come to an end for this year, and I do hope you have noticed the improvements that I have, and there will be so much more to achieve in the year ahead.
Again, I cannot thank you all enough for your friendship and kindness, both with work and also in being so supportive and encouraging in my new adventures along the way.
I am grateful and thankful for each and every one of you.
Wishing everyone a very Happy and peaceful Christmas, and may the new year be filled with joy and contentment.
My warmest wishes
Maureen and Elba xx

In view of the weather forecast for yet another weekend of over 30 degree temperatures, sadly, I will re schedule the walk planned for the 14th August.
Sorry everyone, but we will do it another day when it’s cooler.
I will keep you updated…

30/07/2022

If you would like to join the walk and pub lunch on Sunday 14th August please may I have your confirmation by the end of next week.
We are starting with a lovely walk, about an hour - longer if I get lost (will have my trusty compass to hand) followed by lunch at a local pub (dog friendly outside)
The walk is a mix of wooded area and open.
We will meet at 11 am ready to set off by 11.15 and aim to eat at about 12.45/13.00
Menu available online, all details will be confirmed when I have final names and numbers.
Family members are of course very welcome.
Contact me on the usual number

I can’t believe we are almost at the end of December, and a new year is fast looming.
The past two years have been a challenge for everyone, and this year as we started to “get back to normal” we find ourselves yet again wondering what might lie ahead due to the relentless virus.
We have started to feel the effect of a fuel crisis, driver shortages, low food stocks and sadly an enormous hike in prices across the board.
I know that times are tough, and I sincerely hope that training is a welcome break from the concerns and pressures we all face daily.
I aim to make our sessions practical, informative and fun, with the support of classmates making it, at times, a very social event each week.
For me, seeing you and your dog progress is heartwarming and satisfying.
Each week I see something different in each dog and handler, and although sometimes it feels like we go backwards, we keep at it and work through the hiccups together.
Please remember that I am passionate about my task and always eager to assist in anyway I can, you should never feel you can’t chat to me about problems, but bear in mind that directly after class when another is arriving, can be a bit rushed, so text or call and I will always find time to get in touch. I cannot help with problems or give you alternate ways unless you talk to me and tell me if things aren’t working, don’t feel right or you are struggling. I will always do my very best to find ways around problems, but can only rectify issues if you talk to me.

My very warmest wishes to you and your families for a happy, and peaceful Christmas, and hoping that 2022 brings good health, contentment and happiness.

Thank you all for your wonderful support and enthusiasm, for my incredible gifts, cards and words of kindness, every one of them is treasured, and your thoughtfulness is appreciated and valued.

What an excellent day so far, two fun agility classes at the paddock followed by two classes meeting at Bisley Shooting ground. The idea was to have the dogs outside at the cafe, and exposing them to the noise of shooting in the background. Everyone had refreshments at the clays cafe, dogs all settled and oblivious of the noise.
We discussed how to cope if fireworks and other sounds distress or make the dogs anxious.
One more group to go but so far a very rewarding visit.
Lovely dogs and equally lovely owners.
Elba of course curled up on his crate in my car and taking it all in his stride.
Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm in trying new ideas.

M is a perfect example of what can be achieved with consistent training. What a good girl, again I’m delighted with M and her devoted owner for the hard work and fun that goes into training… excellent.
It doesn’t start off this way, it involves time and commitment, patience, some frustrating moments but also a lot of fun and wow, when it works, it feels very satisfying.
We will be practicing with the pheasant and Deer very soon… watch this space.
It’s fun but with a purpose - let’s put an end to chasing rabbits, birds or Deer!

17/08/2021

Woody is very driven and an ardent hunter and chaser, but with continued, consistent training, and a very little help before taking this clip, woody did exactly as he was told. So proud of you both!

17/08/2021

Does your dog retrieve?
Does your dog chase rabbits?
Does your dog listen to you?
Watch Elba do exactly as he’s told…

So it’s been a long while since I have posted anything here. During this second lockdown I have been amazingly occupied with one on ones, lots of faces from the past, with new dogs, and lots of new faces too. Working outside in the enclosed paddock for the past 18 months has also taught me a lot, doing one on ones here especially has given me great food for thought.
The traditional village hall classes worked well for many years, yes everyone is enclosed, dry and warm, but then when those groups move outdoors, a lot of the training that been achieved inside, then doesn’t work outdoors. There’s a big wide world of different scents, animals, noises and weather conditions, and yes, working in the pouring rain and gusty winds can be uncomfortable at times, but it certainly helps if that’s what our dogs are used to from the onset.
More and more people are asking me “do you train without constant treats?”
YES! Sometimes treats are needed to begin with, fine in small amounts and high reward ones at that, but toys and motivation from the handlers is a very big part of motivating a dog to want to be with us.

Smaller groups, sometimes even two at a times can gradually help to reinforce what has been put into practice in individual lessons, and a gradual build up to further distractions works so much better than some larger classes.

Some groups work really well if the handlers enjoy a bit of social contact and being with like minded people. Some people prefer to go it alone...

So now I am offering not only one on ones, small group classes, but I will also pair you with one other person/dog, to introduce distractions.

All of my normal fun agility, & hoopers classes running again as normal, including refreshments.

The scent classes are small and great fun.
I continue to run the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme for those who wish to do this, and I am also an examiner to Gold level.

Please contact me to register for the next recall workshop, or introduction to tracking. Both dates to be confirmed.

I will be offering a New Forest package very soon, a day out with a nice walk, packed lunch, some scent work, and fun agility too. Places will be limited, at least two instructors, and everyone can have a go at everything on offer.

All classes are full at the present time, but please call should you wish to discuss anything, to put your name on the waiting list, or to come along and watch the way I work.

I offer full one hour individual lessons for the first visit then 30 minute booster sessions to follow.

If you wish to try the fun agility, again 30 minute individual sessions are great for this, and some people prefer to do this alone anyway, especially if the dog is a reactive one.

Do call me and if I’m working, leave me a message, I will always return your call as soon as I am able to do so.

Keep safe and keep training,

Maureen and Elba

31/10/2020

Sorry but even with two additional sessions, all Fun Hoopers, Fun Agility Puppy & general Classes are full and
I have waiting lists now for all classes. The extra classes starting will begin in the new year. Please do contact me should you wish to register, chat about the classes or need advice or help with any issues.

I have added another ever popular scent class, these are run fortnightly, and the introduction to tracking is monthly. Groups are kept to a maximum of four for each class.

If you would like private lessons, at the paddock, or at your home, please telephone or email, I will do my utmost to book a convenient time for these.

The next group walk will be in December, venue to be decided soon.

Please keep safe and well.

Get ready for...
Hoopers for Fun

Hoopers is doggie activity that’s become extremely popular And brings with it the same excitement as agility, but without jumps or tight turns, Hoopers is easier on the joints.
Apart from being lower impact & fun for your dog, it’s also much easier on the handlers too.
Working together and having fun with your dog increases mutual respect and heightens the bond.

Hoopers started life in America. Instead of jumps and contact equipment, the course is made up of hoops to go through, barrels or cones to go around plus short, wide tunnels to enter. Because of the lack of jumping, tight turns etc, there is minimal stress on joints for dog or handler. Hoopers is therefore viable for older dogs and handlers with mobility issues.
It encourages distance handling, but like anything else, training is essential for you and your dog to learn, it uses verbal and physical cues to master the course.
Like all aspects of training, it is to focus the dog on the handler, to work together and to achieve a mutual goal.
From pups to golden oldies, a new way to enjoy being together...
We will not be competing (well only against each other sometimes) like our agility, it will be for FUN

This will be at my enclosed paddock in Chobham, small friendly groups, socially distanced, and in most weather. Easy parking on site.

If you would like more information, or to register for a course, please email, text or call.

I look forward to speaking to you.

Having a wonderful paddock, within the boundary of Chobham Common is a huge privilege.
Those of you who attend classes and Agility there all know the benefit of such a beautiful location.
Far too often fires break out on the common, sadly destroying the habitat and wildlife.
Yesterday’s fire looks to be under control, but only becaue the fire services risk their lives, as they do daily for us all, to protect the area.
The fire service is under attack from massive financial cutbacks and reorganisation.
On a daily basis these dedicated people work tirelessly to protect our lives, our environment, our habitat, and still find compassion to rescue animals in distress and even cats up trees!
An enormous and heartfelt thank you, you are all very greatly appreciated.

Where do I begin...
What an incredible week, and it’s nowhere near finished yet.
Last Saturday, despite the rain, we enjoyed having Alun and Sue come along and photograph the days agility and some classes. It’s was super fun but also an emotional start to the day, as we sadly said goodbye to some lovely people and their adorable dog duo, we wish them much happiness in their new home.
The photos, which I’ve now seen, wonderfully capture not just how the dogs move and work, but your determination and dedication too! Thank you so much to Alun and Susan for their time, their continued friendship and amazing support. I will pass on the link to everyone involved so that you may see the superb photographs.
Professional photographers - I highly recommend them, do visit their site, you may even recognise some faces...
Alunsuejenkins.zenfolio.com

So how do we follow that then?
A very busy day yesterday, and a wholly successful one as well.
Many congratulations to Sandra and Nala achieving their KCGCDS bronze award - well done, working hard now towards Silver.
To Lynsey with Woody and Christina with Mable, for achieving their Silver KCGCDS award, Gold next please, and to Joan with Lola and Darren with Alfie for achieving their Gold KCGCDS award.
I really cannot tell you how proud I am of you all, not because of the certificates, but for your continued hard work, your ongoing training, and the way you relentlessly aim for the best you can for, and with your dogs.
A delightful achievement for you all.
Last, but not least, many of the puppies will receive their KCPuppy foundation certificates this week.
You’ve all been very committed and have done incredibly well.
Working outdoors is undoubtedly harder than in a hall, but your perseverance will pay off, its real
being outside, with so many distractions and smells, but loads more fun too!
Many of you have decided not to take part in the GCDS, and I fully appreciate your choice. This in no way diminishes your hard work or training - we, like our dogs, are all different, but generally speaking, the aim is the same...
A pleasant, well mannered dog. A companion to enjoy each other’s space, and to have some fun.
Well done to you all, but there’s plenty of work ahead still and loads more to achieve.
Thank you for being such great people to work alongside.

Di Whiting thank you for a super Shield Dog Show, as always.
Christina and I had a lovely day, responsible, friendly people and dogs.
Another successful show to be proud of.
Thank you for all of your hard work, and well done to all participants.
A big thank you.

Classes have now been up and running for two weeks- we started out a little unsure as to how it would all work, but due to demand I am adding an additional class from July. Anyone interested, please contact me and I will give details and register you for them.
Individual lessons at the field, or at your home are also available.

Classes and fun agility are outdoors and in an enclosed field.
Parking on site
Social distancing is standard.
Learning in an outdoor environment, all weathers, with normal everyday distractions, squirrels , rabbits, deer, people and other dogs. This is real life environment learning.
Likeminded people with the same aim - to have well behaved dogs who come back when they are called and are well mannered.

Give me a call to chat about your dog and what you’d like to achieve, we can take it from there.

Spot this mornings distraction...maybe he wanted to join in!

Maureen

After our second week back at fun agility, it’s good to report it’s all running very nicely.
Everyone is being incredibly vigilant in sanitising hands and adhering to social distancing.
It’s great to be back with you all again, the dogs and their handlers are really enthusiastic and happy.
We have been majorly blessed with good weather, but that is a bonus, as a little (or a lot) of rain has never been an issue !

Hopefully classes for general obedience and for those who wish, the KC GCDS, will re start in June. I’m finalising some numbers and dates. I will notify everyone as soon as I can.
These will also be held at the paddock throughout the summer, and possibly winter, depending on guidelines by then.
Good to have you all back, and looking forward to seeing more of you very soon.
Keep safe and well.

So yet again the paddock has been raided - thankfully the agility equipment is safe, but from the storage containers a small trolley has been taken, and four white plastic chairs.
It is soul destroying, and in the state we are presently trying to get through, seems even more inappropriate.
Why do some feel they have a right to someone else’s property?
Well, whoever has it, obviously was in dire need!!!

Dexter is lying still, a rare sight indeed. Miss you Dex x

Dog Training should be enjoyable...

Classes and individual lessons should be enjoyable as well as productive and informative.

Calling upon many years and methods of professional training, plus having owned and trained my own dogs, I hope to make your experience of training sociable, fun and supportive.

It is my job to see each handler and dogs individual needs, and work with you to find ways which suit you best with methods which result in the outcome you look for.

All classes are very sociable and handlers support each other. Many of us have particular issues at any given time, and this is where we pride ourselves in assisting and turning these problems around.
