WE ALL AGREE WITH NO MORE UNWANTED LITTERS. We should consider newer, safer alternatives than a traditional gonadectomies to prevent long-term health concerns.

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA)🏥 has just announced their new spay & neuter guidelines.🙀 Due to growing evidence of adverse health effects of traditional gonadectomy (spay/neuter) and increases in cancers and joint disorders, WSAVA suggest the best practice for RESPONSIBLE pet parents is to leave dogs and cats unaltered (intact). Additionally noting, spaying or neutering a dog younger than 6 months of age is NOT recommended because of an increase of detrimental health risks. Acknowledging in some circumstances, such as rescues and shelters, where leaving an animal intact is not an option, they stress the importance of education and acceptance of newer, alternative sterilization techniques that have less long-term health concerns. 🙌

Discussing these alternative techniques and the pro’s and con’s today, plus much more in the Inside Scoop.

5 Amazing Benefits of Catnip for Dogs https://buff.ly/3yTCwH9

Years ago, one of my dogs would steal my cat's catnip toys - he'd lick, chew, and walk around with it. I found the behavior interesting because I didn't think catnip affected dogs.

I was wrong.

In this article, I share several benefits of catnip for dogs, how I'm introducing catnip to my dogs, and how I dry fresh catnip from my garden for my dogs and cats.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've had experience giving catnip to dogs and if I may have overlooked something.

🐾 What's in Your Pet's Food Bowl? Understanding Feed Grade vs. Food Grade🐾

Hey there, fellow pet parents and animal lovers! 🐶🐱

Dr. Katie Woodley here, and today I want to dive into an essential topic—Feed Grade vs. Food Grade pet food.

What's the Difference? 🤷‍♀️
🥴Feed Grade: Feed grade ingredients are those that are considered safe for animal consumption but may not meet the standards for human consumption.

These ingredients can contain "4-D" meats—animals that are dead, dying, diseased, or disabled—yikes!

✅ Food Grade: This refers to pet food that meets the same quality and safety standards required for human food. Meaning, the ingredients are higher quality and held to a higher standard.

🔥Why Does It Matter? 🌿🥩
1. Nutrient Absorption: Higher quality ingredients are easier for your pets to digest, and they absorb more nutrients, leading to better overall health.

2. Reduced Allergies: Many pets have allergies to low-quality proteins or additives commonly found in feed-grade foods.

3. Gut Health: Good quality food ensures better gut health, which is the cornerstone to a balanced, happy life for your pet.

4. Ethical and Sustainable: Often, food-grade products are sourced more responsibly.

The Holistic Approach 🍀

As someone who focuses on gut health and holistic treatments, I can't stress enough the importance of good nutrition.

With appropriate testing and food therapy, you can ensure that you're taking a proactive approach to your pet's wellness.

Bone Broth Provides Excellent Hydration for Pets 🐶🐱

Inexpensive to make, easy to prepare and easy to digest, bone broth is perfect 🌟 in situations where you need to add flavor, moisture and extra nutrients in an easily absorbable form into your pet’s meals. 👌

It’s great for any pet, especially dogs and cats recovering from tummy troubles, picky eaters and older animals with declining appetites. 🤎 Just make sure to use onion-free bone broth.

It begins. This is a genuine slide leaked from a Hills presentation. They are moving to "prescription diet fresh meals" (each one of the words needed its own sarky air quotes but it would be too hard to read), now using "real protein" (in the form of slices of beef steak, apparently) as their pet MAY be unhappy eating regular kibble that might not taste good...which may be the first truth they've uttered in decades.

Never forgive and never forget what these people will say and do to sell you trash.

Do you find yourself down a path where you're going to the vet over and over for the same problem?

Here's the thing.

Many times the problem has been missed that caused the symptom that you're treating.

We're treating the wrong thing and that's why it never goes away.

For example, allergies.

If you keep putting food in your pet that causes inflammation, they will never heal completely.

If we're just treating the itch but not focusing on the cause of why it's happening, the itch will always return when the meds run out.

Conventional medicine is symptom care medicine, and it has a time and place for acute care. It truly is needed to help your pet feel better, but it fails in the long-term for fixing disease.

We have to start asking why something is happening and look at how to resolve the root issue.

This may involve a multi-modal approach with nutrition, herbs, and maybe even drugs, but it should be individualized for each pet.

If you're feeling stuck, lost and worried you're not treating the root issue with your pet, make sure to schedule a free discovery call so I can learn more about what you're going through and if we're able to help support you in healing your pet at a deeper level.

The senior years are the best years, in my opinion. Take time to enjoy your senior pets. Give them the support they need to keep them comfortable.

If your pet has any specific diseases, they may need more targeted support in their old age. The 3 most common areas senior pets need extra support are cognitive function, joint health, and pain.

While many of our pets are unable to go for long walks, they still enjoy an outing in their stroller or wagon. Our pets truly enjoy spending time with us. Take time today to give your pet a little extra love.

Just because natural therapies have major benefits to the body, it doesn’t mean the body needs or even wants to have them every day!

Often they’re best if given at specific times of the year, after certain events, or just in rotation.

Many herbs, for instance, shouldn’t be used long term. Most herbal remedies are specifically designed to manage and assist with acute disease or as a periodic detox. Note that challenging chronic conditions may be an exception to this.

When an animal is healthy, giving them the chance to reset is often just as beneficial. Take herbal supplement breaks and give the body a rest and a change to rebalance on its own.

Rotation is also important, especially in the case of probiotics. To promote microbial diversity, it is essential to rotate through different varieties. By doing a cycle of different probiotics, you’re able to deliver that diversity.

Rotating through herbs and nutraceuticals that have varying benefits will also help provide more balance in supporting different systems of the body.

Keep these things in mind to ensure your pet is getting the most out of the supplements you’re providing.
