We had to say goodbye to Winston on Monday.
To some, a dog might just be a pet. But to those who have loved a dog, they know it's so much more. Dogs like Winston aren't just animals; they become a part of our lives, our families, and our hearts in ways that words can barely describe.
Winston was not just a dog; he was a confidant, a source of unconditional love, and a bearer of comfort. In his 11 years, he saw life's ups and downs, but through it all, he remained a steadfast companion. His presence was a constant reminder that in the hustle and bustle of life, there are moments of pure joy and unconditional love, often found in the wag of a tail or a gentle puppy attack (basically a lick face session).
Growing up with a dog teaches us about responsibility, empathy, and the importance of nurturing a life other than our own. Winston was more than a pet; he was a teacher of life's simplest yet most important lessons. He showed us how to love without condition, to play without a care in the world, and to live in the moment.
Winston's journey was remarkable (some of you were even involved with finding him when he was lost in Woburn), surviving all sorts of challenges, proving that dogs have an incredible resilience and spirit. In his time with us, he carried our burdens without a word, offering a comforting presence that could lighten the heaviest of hearts.
Now, as he rests and plays in dog heaven with his friend Hugo, Kat and I find solace in knowing that his was a life well-lived, full of love and joy. Winston's memory serves as a poignant reminder of the special place dogs hold in our lives. They are more than pets; they are family, teachers, and guardians of our well-being.
Boony’s story (the dog with 100 names) is a testament to the irreplaceable role dogs play in our lives. They see us through our best and worst, and in their eyes, we find a reflection of the best versions of ourselves. So, here's to Winston, and to all the dogs who have left paw prints on our hearts. They may leave us in body, but in spirit, they stay with us forever, reminding us of the purest form of love and companionship we are lucky enough to experience. Sleep well, Winston xx
