3 chickens found at Drinnies Wood outside Mintlaw; looks like they've been dumped but they're safe and being cared for now. White Leghorn and 2 red hybrid type hens, probably older girls, one has a bit of scaly leg (being treated). SSPCA are aware. If these girls are yours (lost, stolen or strayed) or you know where they've come from, please get in touch with me.

I've been watching this cute little digger. I love yellow and orange machinery, it's so exciting! It's just arrived to put a new fence up around our field - Human says the only thing keeping us in the field at the moment is wishful thinking! Is it my fault once posts fall down when I lean over to nibble the headland?? Anyway, we're going to have to stay in the barn and yard until the new fence is up - but that's ok. It's snowing and our hay and water is inside.

Human came home from work this morning to find a bit of a traffic jam on the drive. She was quite amused but also pleased and said we’re bombproof. And I thought it was called a car…

This is Dancer’s face when people are messing with her hooves. The others all get their hooves messed with frequently - the hoof trimmer comes ever 6 weeks and trims their feet for them. She came today and they all had to stand on three legs at a time while the other leg was being trimmed. Human is teaching me to pick my feet up by myself, since I hate having people touch my hooves - human came in once when I was lying down and insisted on touching my hooves. I kept saying No! and eventually I had to take hold of her sleeve and pull her hand away to show I really meant No! At least now we’re coming to an arrangement... I pick my hooves up and she gives me treats and praise. She had a rasp the other day though, and tapped my hooves with it through the fence. I got lots of treats for that but I am Very Suspicious about it!

Outside it’s snowing. The wind is Baltic. But we have two snug barns and free access to the field so we can choose to be inside if we want (or outside, but today we don’t want to be outside) and there’s lots of hay, we’ve just had breakfast (big buckets of grub twice a day here - human keeps saying we need lots of forage in our hindguts to stay warm) and life is okay. Even in winter. Human was trying to get me to put my ears forward but I don’t like cameras, and Abe is watching to see if he can sneak in and steal my treats. Or my hay. Or my human. Or something. At least the girls are in the other barn where they have a whole bale of hay in a big tub, not stealing my two haynets here...

Human was in a thoughtful mood this morning while filling up our hay nets. I like to hang out and listen - it might look like I'm just hoping for treats but I do listen, I really do! - and she was talking about the difference between ownership and guardianship. Turns out most humans think they own horses and other animals, and when you own something, you can decide what to do with it. She was telling me that she doesn't feel like she owns me, she's my guardian - which means she looks after me, protects me and helps me live my best life. Us horses know very well that ownership is a deception - how can you own grass? Or water? Or the others in your herd? - but most humans don't seem to realise this yet. Perhaps one day they'll wake up.

That will be a good day for everyone else in the world, like the trees and other animals. Humans don't own them, either.

And I got some treats for being there and not kicking the door for attention, too, and I even let Dancer hang out with me without biting her.

Here’s me, chilling with my pals in our barn. Abe’s the grey one, and Dancer’s the palomino. Our human was quite funny that day - she wanted to muck out and we didn’t want to get out of bed!

These feathery squawking things infest our barn. The ducks use our water buckets as bathtubs! But we don't mind - the human keeps them scrubbed clean and refills them when the ducks splash all the water out.

Hello. I’m George. I’m a Suffolk Punch. I have some friends who live with me - Abe is my bestie, he’s an Arab. Dancer is mostly Arab, she’s alright but too often she has her Mum with her, Poppy, she’s an Arab too and a Right Old Mare! There’re some ducks and geese and chickens, too, and they tell me the fluffy things are rabbits - oh, and there’s some dogs. Two skinny things they call whippets, apparently. And, of course, there’s my human. Someone’s got to keep providing the food and scritches!
