Busy day tomorrow - Abe’s coming home! I’m told he’s cheerful and eating well, seems to be recovering nicely, so 2 weeks in the barn by himself with hand-grazing, then 2 weeks solitary turnout in a paddock, then a post-op scoping up his schnozzle and if all looks ok, he can then rejoin the herd properly.

Huge relief to hear from the vet this afternoon; Abe has come out of surgery ok! He’s had the bulk of a large ethmoid haemotoma removed from 2 sinuses and his left nostril, a couple of abscesses festering under the growth have been dealt with and he’s up to his little pointy Arab ears on painkillers and antibiotics. If he continues to do well, he might be home at the weekend! It’ll be a while before everything heals up since they had to dismantle a chunk of his skull to get at the sinuses in question, but that should be the worst of it dealt with now. Massive thanks to all who contributed to the crowd funding and/or sent good vibes and supportive messages - every bit of it has helped us both. ❤️❤️❤️

A quick update on Abe. He travelled well down to Dick Vet this morning. He’s had sinoscopy and a CT scan and it looks like the mass in his sinuses which has been causing nosebleeds is probably an ethmoid haematoma. He’s had antibiotics and pain relief and is resting comfortably, he ate all his dinner and will be checked regularly through the night. Tomorrow the soft tissue surgical specialists will huddle to plan how best to operate, and then they’ll call me. Fingers still crossed!

3 chickens found at Drinnies Wood outside Mintlaw; looks like they've been dumped but they're safe and being cared for now. White Leghorn and 2 red hybrid type hens, probably older girls, one has a bit of scaly leg (being treated). SSPCA are aware. If these girls are yours (lost, stolen or strayed) or you know where they've come from, please get in touch with me.
