How to dry your dog?

It is advisable to always towel dry your dog when it is wet and then blow dry its fur. Use super absorbent towels to take away dripping water and moisture, working from the head towards the tail, then drying the legs, paying attention to the paws and paw pads.

Do:
✅ Use a super absorbent towel specially designed for dogs.
✅ Ensure there are at least two towels on hand and they are big enough for your dogs.
✅ Gently press and squeeze over the dog’s fur to allow the towel to soak up as much water as possible.

Avoid:
❌ Rubbing vigorously with the towels. Your dog may not appreciate this and it may damage its coat too.
❌ Up-and-down, back-and-forth motion as it may result in matt or tangles in the fur.

Why is it important to keep your dog dry?

It is important to keep a dog dry after baths or walks in wet weather because damp skin or damp fur may cause:

🐶 itching
🐶 skin infections
🐶 hot spots
🐶 fungus growth in between paw pads or joints
🐶 fur matting
🐶 musty or moldy smell

Do your dogs feel cold during winter? ❄️
During cold weather, dogs tend to feel cold like us pawrents. While the northern breeds like Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds and Chow Chows have natural resistance to the freezing cold, most breeds will require extra protection against the cold.

Here are some types of dogs which usually require winter protection (e.g. winter jackets, boots, blankets):
🔍 Breeds with small and short coats (Chihuahuas, French Bulldogs, Bichon)
🔍 Dogs that sit low to the ground (Corgis, Basset Hounds, Dachshund)
🔍 Leaned-bodied breeds with short coat (Greyhound, Whippets)
🔍 Puppies
🔍 Senior dogs

Larger dogs with long thick fur can cope better with cold weather. However, it would be good to keep them dry by providing them with winter jackets and boots when they are outdoors.

How to keep your dog warm during winter?

📌 Put on a dog vest or jacket for your dog especially if it is very young or has short coat.
📌 Put on boots for your dog.
📌 Provide your dog with warm blankets.
📌 Provide your dog with a warm, comfortable bed.
📌 Allow your dog to spend more time indoor.
📌 Provide your dog with adequate outdoor shelter.
