This afternoon saw us installing a fire in the kennel for our elderly residents. We have already fitted a double glazed window and a door so that they can be more cosy during the night.

This is our ram. He has a bad facial injury which has left him with a very deep hole in the side of his face. It is full of maggots.
We are currently treating him with antibiotics. Flushing the hole with saline and then iodine and then picking out the maggots as they start wriggling out. The hole is then packed with an iodine swab and bandaged. We expect him to make a complete recovery.

Hello everyone this is Tika she is around 7/8 months old. She was found in the Algarve.
She has a fractured tibia and fibula which was splinted in the hope that the bones would knit together without needing surgery. This did not happen and yesterday she had to have specialist veterinary orthopaedic surgery to have an external fixation. This is €680 plus X-rays, follow up checkups, nine weeks of painkillers and antibiotics so all in all a hefty bill. If there is anyone who feels that they would like to help us with this cost, no matter how small we would be very grateful. As you all know we have many mouths to feed and this takes quite a lot of money to maintain already.
Here is hoping that some of you will be able to help us. Thank you in anticipation.
At the end of this treatment Tika will also be ready for a new home. She is house trained, walks great on a lead, loves other dogs and is really loving and friendly. A sweetie!!

This is Tika following yesterday's accident where she was playing and barrelled into me knocking me off my feet. I of course fell backwards and landed on her, she has a broken tib and fib!!!
Has a splint on now and check ups for the next 6-8 weeks.....
We of course thank our vet Vanessa for all her care and attention she has given to Tika so far.

Hello everyone. We have been quiet for awhile as we have been very busy.
We have two new additions here at streetdogs. Tikal came from down in the Algarve a really sweet young lady between 6-8 months old. She accompanied us to a castration campaign that we helped at two weeks ago along with Klara a 5 month old black labrador cross and three sisters from Beja Hannah, Ida and Judith who where all sterilised whilst there.
Klara and her brother Kuddle were adopted immediately following this campaign and we wait to hear what their new names are and to find out how they are settling in to their new home.
We also have a young lady who is heavily pregnant called Honey who is also a sweetie who will be looking for a new home once she has birthed and weaned her babies and been sterilsed.
Meanwhile Meena is improving daily, do you remember the shy little girl pictured with Glynn in March. She is sweet, very loving, still shy but getting there. She loves being in the house and plays with the puppies Minnie and Mikey.
Nearly forgot to say that 81 dogs and 51 cats were sterilised during this campaign!!

Glynn and Meena enjoying a cuddle. Meena has been exceptionally playful and out going tonight. We have really enjoyed her and hope to see her in a new home tomorrow. Someone will get a little gem.

Saturday morning saw us once again at Castro Marim where we met Siggy. It was a 04.30am start as we had to load our precious cargo before having a quick cuppa before starting our two hour drive!! We loaded our four Labrador cross puppies and an 18 month old Labrador cross onto the transporter and then helped Siggy with his load of lucky dogs all off to Germany to new forever homes. It's seeing them safely loaded onto the transporter that makes all the s**t with the Gnr worth suffering.

Streetdogs say a very BIG Thankyou to the coffee morning for their very kind and generous donation. It bought us 11 sacks of dog food and 8kilos of chicken legs.
The guys say woof woof woof!!!
This will help us to feed our guys for quite a while. Thank you to everyone for being so kind.

This is Lily who we picked up a few days ago. Heavy with milk but no puppies to be found.
I put a picture of Sage by mistake.....which Madeleine spotted!! You can't fool Madeleine!!
She is doing very well, her milk is drying up nicely thanks to large servings of fresh parsley;!

Alentejo Streetdogs were asked to help a stray springer spaniel, by a kind well wisher. She is lactating and it is thought that she was dumped by hunters last Saturday!!!
Such brave men.....
It is not sure whether she is experiencing a phantom pregnancy or whether she actually has had puppies but then discarded callously.
Either way she will be well looked after and treated for the milk. On Friday she will be vaccined, rabies and wormed.
Avenues are being looked into to get this girl a new home.

Some of Lisa,s puppies have now got their eyes open and are starting to explore beyond their bed......they will soon be ready for their photo shoot to help them find new homes.

This is mum Lisa and her eight newborn puppies. They are nine days old today and have settled in nicely.
We thought we had a problem with Lisa this morning, we thought that she was developing mastitis.........
After a phone consultation with the vet and a thorough examination by us she was found to be in good health (phew!!!)
Did not fancy trying to bottle feed eight as well as doing the olive harvest too!!
She is slowly filling out due to good quality dog food mixed with freshly cooked chicken, lamb and minced liver. Only the best for this girl, to help keep her in tip top condition whilst she feeds and rears her young ones.
All the puppies now weigh between 460 - 600 grams now, at the first weigh in the smallest puppy was 320 grams!!!

This is puppy George. He went on the transporter to Germany yesterday along with Lotta and Luz. They arrived safely today.

This little sweetie is George. He arrived via good Samaritans on Thursday evening.
He is approximately 4 months old and weighs 4.5kgs. He behaves very well and just loves being loved!!!

Alentejo Streetdogs is proud to have helped with a big castration event in Mertola. Three days and 28 dogs and bi***es castrated and approximately 30 to 40 street cats sterilised.
We helped with collecting the dogs from the kennel and assisting with pre-meds and again with the general anaesthesia and lifting the dogs onto the operating table. Then watching over them in the recovery room until they came round again and then taking them back to their kennel.
All dogs were given a pedicure and manicure and fur trimmed . The team is off to Ourique Gare, Beja and Lisbon. Where other volunteers will help. Long days up at six and not arriving home untill 19.30!!!!

Madeleine brought a €100 donation from a very kind well wisher who wants to help the Alentejo Streetdogs get to their forever homes in Germany. For this kindness we say thank you very much for your kindness and generosity. Whilst with us every dog gets its vaccines1 and 2, Rabies, Wormer, Flea treatment, Sterilisation, Microchip and transport to Germany

Glynn is just putting the finishing touches to the sinks that were very kindly donated by generous dog lovers. Thank you so much this makes it so much easier to clean dog dishes and our hands after cleaning and feeding routines!!

Just waiting inthe shade of the transporter for any Whiskey and Fuzzy to be loaded into their travel boxes. Neither of them wanted to leave us but we assured them both with hugs and kisses that they would be loved and happy with their new families ###### less!!!

Whiskey the Rafeiro puppy is saying thank you and goodbye to Glynn as we are taking him to meet the transporter tomorrow. He is off to Germany to a new and loving forever home.
Whilst he has been with us we have given him both his vaccines, rabies, wormer, advantix, micro chipped him and fed him all at our own cost. But it's all worth it to see him get a lovely home and the love that he has given us whilst he has been here makes it worth it!!!
He will be travelling with Fuzzy, Hannah and Mertyl all from our kennel plus four puppies from Mark and Brian and Basti from Ourique Gare. All of them going to loving homes in Germany. Gute Reise Jungs und Mädels
The rest of our street dogs can now stay in the home that they know whilst we have our trip to the UK. Thank you to our "trusted" pet sitters Madeleine and Ian who have stepped in last minute after our "trusted house sitters" let us down at short notice quoting our street dogs as the reason for not coming, after following our pages since April!!!!!
We sleep well at night, thank you very much!!

Baby Mikey in the middle there has a serious infection that has caused him to have numerous abscess all around his neck and in his lymph nodes too!! Not a happy puppy.... He is having antibiotic injections and painkillers, he also had a hydrocortisone injection to boost his immune system into fighting off this very severe infection. Minnie and Maxie cuddle up with him for support... Bless you all guys, 8 weeks old on Monday.
