Pistol Pete learning how to use his new feeder. He’s not sure about that lid!
This young border collie was scared of a side by side when she first came to me. She wouldn’t load in the back or come near it. Her owner uses one every day so this was very important for her to get accustom to. After getting a good foundation on her I started training from the side by side to help her gain confidence and learn that it’s just apart of the job. She’s still a little nervous at times but she’s come a long ways in 60 days.
Teaching inside flanks today as well as teaching this one to work off balance, one of the most important things for a farm dog to learn. Inside flanks are when the dog comes in between the handler and the stock on command. Working off balance is when the dog works against their natural instinct and comes towards the handler instead of away from the pressure.
This border collie was having trouble going in between the fence and the stock. Switched her to sheep today and we made some progress. Here I am setting her up to face the pressure then correcting when she backs away from it.
This young Border Collie has an aversion to going next to the fence and stock. been working on calves and that was too much pressure so switched to Sheep today and made some progress. Tomorrow I will switch back to calves and see how she does.
