A few weeks of recovery after an emotional roller coaster of a weekend, here is how it went.
We left home on Tuesday to make the trek down to Texas. Before we got the where we were staying, we had to stop at Buc-ees and take a picture with Lumiere. We stayed at a friendâs house for a few days before we checked in on Thursday. Lumiere rode around their house really nicely and then Tammy and Scottie got to ride him aswell.
On Thursday, we headed to the show to check in. We got our hip number and then went to the stall. He has immediately pretty annoyed to be locked up in a square. After we got everything unloaded, I took him around to show him the arenas. We ended up riding around wtc ba****ck. He was very relaxed and plodded along.
Our first class on Friday was the Preview class. He was very well behaved but just a little too relaxed and lazy.
The next class was trail. I thought he would excel here but it was definitely our worst class. All of the scary brush that wasnât there hours before really freaked him out. He was definitely not as chill as he normally is.
Our last class was freestyle horsemanship. We had a timed pattern to ride and then remaining time was for us to show off our horse. We had a few bobbles but he was back to being the calm horse I knew.
That evening, I took him out to stretch his legs. We had the arena to ourselves so I hopped on ba****ck and bridless and rode around. He was super good and responsive. I had only ridden him bridless a few times before.
The next morning was awards. We placed 13th overall with only 5 points away from top 10.
That evening was the auction. I was a mess the whole evening. Nobody had come to talk to me about him so the concern grew. While watching the top ten, they announced my name to show off our horse while the top ten were setting up their freestyles. I wasnât aware, so quickly ran back to the stalls, tacked up Lumiere, and ran back to the arena. When we got there, it was time to go in. Lumiere was a champ going into the arena straight away with no warm up.
The auction time came about and he was second horse to sell. Prices werenât going great so we ended up buying him back.
The next morning we pack up everything, including the horse, and headed home.
I learned a lot from my first adult Mustang show and maybe there will be more in the future.
Thanks to everyone for the support and good wishes
