Kerchak is settled in at Equifest of Kansas!
He was selected to participate in the c**t starting clinic by Tik Maynard!
While we were joking about entering him, it really got me determined to get him gentled. With only two weeks of true gentling, he handled the busy environment pretty well. He is still nervous about new people, and wasnt understanding why we were asking him to go into a square prison, he still kept his head on his shoulders.

Another year of the Retired Racehorse Project is in the books!
Harry tried his best and was very well behaved for having a significantly less amount of training than most horses there. With only 45 ish post track rides, we got 22nd overall and 4th junior in trail. In freestyle, we got 9th overall and 2nd place junior. I should also mention that we had never practiced our freestyle prior to our schooling practice the night before.
Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way.
Harry is looking for a new home. 4 year old gelding, 16h.

Light Horse Harry and I are off to Kentucky for the Retired Racehorse Project!
We have had a busy past few weeks trying to get as much experience under our belt before the show. Two weeks ago, we traveled up the Northern Kansas to stay with the Saliceti’s. They were gracious enough to let me keep Harry there and let me stay in their home. I went up there to participate in a three day clinic put on by Lee Hart. We both learned a lot and I will be able to use that knowledge for other horses as well. At the end of that week, I was able to do my first EXCA race. While it wasn’t anywhere near perfect or very fast, Harry exceeded my expectations and we got third. We left the next day and headed towards home to another obstacle event at a local arena. He had never seen anything like the obstacles they had but crushed it. Even with a few bobble, he won his class and also had the third best score of the whole show.
Last week, Harry and I went to an open obstacle course. There were several acres of very different obstacles. He was super brave about all of them. Right after that, we ran over to a neighboring town to get shoes on Harry. He was super patient for the whole process. Thank you Analise for squeezing us in.
I am excited to see how Harry does this week. He has been a cool one to restart.
Harry will be available following the show!

I was asked to carry a flag at the Wild Horse Youth Challenge at the Kansas State Fair again this year. And not only any flag, the American flag. This was quite nerve wracking but Sargent really pulled through for me a few weeks ago. Not only had he been out the pasture since last year but he also only had two weeks prep. I was super close to asking to borrow another horse to carry the flag in the ceremony. He handled being back in the show environment very well and really didn’t skip a beat considering how terribly I prepared him. Even country music singer, Ella Langley rode him around the fair. While I didn’t get to watch the whole thing, I was told that they got along pretty well. Only one other person has ridden him beside me so I was hesitant but it worked out great.

Huge thank you Jason Holder for sealing our trailer and helping continue to go to shows!

We scheduled with Jason (The Trailer Coating Co) to meet us at Will Rogers while I was down at the Fort Worth Mustang Show to seal the roof of our horse trailer. He provided excellent customer service and a great product. After returning from Fort Worth we got a letter and sponsorship from him in the mail. That sponsorship helped with the Wild Horse Youth Challenge that following week. We can definitely tell a huge difference in the dressing room where we sleep. If anyone needs the roof of your horse trailer sealed don’t hesitate to reach out to him! His set up is mobile and he travels all over the US.

A bittersweet end to an amazing 6 years of the Wild Horse Youth Challenge. That’s 6 mustangs that I was able to gentle and find homes for. And the best thing is I get to see most of them often whether in person or just photos.
Last weekend, Mikey and I competed at the Kansas State Fair. He did very well and handled the show environment very well.
Our first class was showmanship. He was a little sluggish but still responsive. We got first in that class
Our second class was trail. He did everything I asked and tried his hardest. Our one bobble was just some wiggles when I picked up his feet. We got 2nd
Our last class was freestyle. He definitely exceeded my expectations here. Mikey had only seen some of the props one other time before and we hadn’t run through my freestyle before. For just winging it, I was very happy with how we preformed. He got 2nd in freestyle.
Overall, Mikey was awarded Champion in the 15-18 age group.
After all the showing and awards was the auction. Mikey found a nice home and even got to go home with one of the other fillies.

A few weeks of recovery after an emotional roller coaster of a weekend, here is how it went.
We left home on Tuesday to make the trek down to Texas. Before we got the where we were staying, we had to stop at Buc-ees and take a picture with Lumiere. We stayed at a friend’s house for a few days before we checked in on Thursday. Lumiere rode around their house really nicely and then Tammy and Scottie got to ride him aswell.
On Thursday, we headed to the show to check in. We got our hip number and then went to the stall. He has immediately pretty annoyed to be locked up in a square. After we got everything unloaded, I took him around to show him the arenas. We ended up riding around wtc ba****ck. He was very relaxed and plodded along.
Our first class on Friday was the Preview class. He was very well behaved but just a little too relaxed and lazy.
The next class was trail. I thought he would excel here but it was definitely our worst class. All of the scary brush that wasn’t there hours before really freaked him out. He was definitely not as chill as he normally is.
Our last class was freestyle horsemanship. We had a timed pattern to ride and then remaining time was for us to show off our horse. We had a few bobbles but he was back to being the calm horse I knew.
That evening, I took him out to stretch his legs. We had the arena to ourselves so I hopped on ba****ck and bridless and rode around. He was super good and responsive. I had only ridden him bridless a few times before.
The next morning was awards. We placed 13th overall with only 5 points away from top 10.
That evening was the auction. I was a mess the whole evening. Nobody had come to talk to me about him so the concern grew. While watching the top ten, they announced my name to show off our horse while the top ten were setting up their freestyles. I wasn’t aware, so quickly ran back to the stalls, tacked up Lumiere, and ran back to the arena. When we got there, it was time to go in. Lumiere was a champ going into the arena straight away with no warm up.
The auction time came about and he was second horse to sell. Prices weren’t going great so we ended up buying him back.
The next morning we pack up everything, including the horse, and headed home.
I learned a lot from my first adult Mustang show and maybe there will be more in the future.
Thanks to everyone for the support and good wishes

Lumiere goes up for auction this evening. He is a super cool horse but hasn’t loved the show environment. Go through my previous posts to see how awesome he is. He has had several riders on him including my beginner brother. He has taken care of everyone.
Hip #30 at the auction this evening. Lumiere will be one of the first to sell.
