UPDATE: To expand on WHY we're seeking contact with these people: We are needing INFOMATION. This dog knows "sit" and "shake". It would make a world of difference if we knew this dog's name or medical history. If this was a stray, it's very helpful to know WHERE it was found. Just a little bit of information can go a great distance in getting this dog the care and a happy ending he deserves. For now we're calling him Boone.
ALERT: Drop & Run
Do you recognize these people or this car?
Tonight, at 6:20pm, in freezing temperatures, someone abandoned this poor dog in our play yard after hours and drove away. This innocent dog was left terrified, shivering, and utterly alone.
If you know this car, this dog, or these people, please contact us right away. It's very cold, and this yard has no shelter or water. The dog could have easily escaped and been hit by a car. We would love more information to ensure that this dog gets the care he needs.
Just a reminder, if you find a stray dog, please contact Animal Control.

Monroe County Friends of Animals
Monroe County Friends of Animals is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit volunteer organization, operating solely on donations and community support. The organization was created in 2004 by concerned citizens who recognized a dire need in our county for animal welfare. At that time, there was no animal shelter, no place to go to adopt, no place to surrender animals that could no longer be cared for, and stray and abandoned animals ran loose in the community.
Partnering with the county, we opened Monroe County’s first and only animal shelter, located at 170 Kefauver Lane, Madisonville, TN. The county leased the site from a retired veterinarian and converted it into the shelter. Through the years, with grants and the labor of our volunteers, we’ve been able to make significant enhancements to the shelter, but our ultimate goal is to build a new shelter.
From the beginning, the Monroe County Friends of Animals has shared the cost of operating the shelter with the county. The non-profit organization funds food, medicine and medical treatment for the animals. The county pays for staff salaries, rent and utilities.
In addition, MCFA coordinates volunteers who help at the shelter and we provide other community services (programs) through our volunteer network. This includes rescue, adoption, foster and spay/neuter programs.
More than 25,000 animals have been adopted or rescued since we started 16 years ago.
Ten years ago, we had one main rescue partner in upstate New York. Now we have a dozen partner shelters in the Midwest and Northeast.
Our volunteer programs provide care for animals in the shelter, promote animal welfare and facilitate re-homing. These volunteer-staffed programs and initiatives include:
Hands-on animal care, socialization, and training at the shelter
Educational programs in the schools
Providing spay and neuter vouchers to local low-income pet owners (through our Spay Neuter Assistance Program [SNAP]), enabling them to have the surgeries done.
Transporting animals to shelters and pet rescues in the mid-west and the eastern US that have a greater demand for pets and quickly adopted.
Providing special care for elderly or Disabled pets through our Second Chance Pals program. Over 200 of these animals have been saved to date
Food Pantry – provides pet food for families of limited means
The sources of funds to carry out our work are donations, fundraising events, and the proceeds of a Thrift Store we operate in Madisonville Our Thrift Store, where donated goods from the community are processed and resold, provides a vast array of quality household items, furniture, clothing and more at very affordable prices to the community.
Our organization is 100% volunteer; there are no paid positions. A small amount of money goes to administrative expenses with the remaining funds going directly to help the animals.
We are proud of our success, but we continue to find that the need is always greater than the amount of help we can provide. Please consider donating your time or money to help us provide shelter, medicine, food, and ultimately new homes for the innocent animals in our care. To donate or get involved, visit our website at monroecountyfriendsofanimals.org or email us at [email protected]. Thank you!
