🐾 Love this graphic on the predatory sequence! 🐶✨

Over generations, our ancestors selectively bred different dog breeds for specific traits, influencing how they engage in their natural instincts.

To truly meet your pet's needs, it's essential to understand which part of that predatory sequence they thrive on and enjoy the most and then give them appropriate outlets to practice these behaviours.

Let's help our furry companions live their best lives! 💖

We have played with the predatory sequence in our dogs to make certain parts more or less prominent, so they could perform certain jobs for us.
When we look at breed traits and which part of this sequence our dogs like to perform best, we can then look at ways to better fulfil them.

Full video of this just released in the comic membership. Find the link and special offer in my stories and bio.

Building a strong trusting relationship between caregiver and pet is always my first priority. Through being open to learning more about behaviour, listening to our pets, meeting their needs, and having positive interactions, I believe we can all achieve this. With trust comes confidence for pet and caregiver. That is why I am so happy to get positive feedback like this, especially when we started with a very anxious individual and an overwhelmed caregiver 5 months ago.

"We found an empty beach. Queenie is loving it and doing really well, thanks to your guidance. We even did the dog beach with other dogs 😊 very proud moment. 🐶"

Behaviour change takes time and handwork, and there are no quick fixes.

🌞🐾 Summer is here, and it’s time to ensure our furry friends stay safe in the heat!

Here are some essential tips to prevent heatstroke in pets:

1. Stay Hydrated: Always provide fresh, cool water for your pets to drink.

2. Find Shade: Set up a cool, shaded area for your pets to relax and escape the sun. If it’s too hot outside, bring them indoors!

3. Walk in Morning or early evening: Avoid walks and intense play during peak heat. Early mornings or late evenings are the best times for outdoor activities.

4. Watch for Warning Signs: Keep an eye out for heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or difficulty breathing. If you notice any of these, move your pet to a cooler spot and contact your vet.

5. Mind the Ground: Hot surfaces like sand, asphalt, and concrete can burn your pet's paws. Stick to grassy or shaded paths for walks.

6. Use Cooling Aids: Help your pets stay cool with cooling mats, frozen treats, or damp towels.

Let’s keep our furry companions safe and comfortable this summer! 🌞🐾

NOVEMBER WEBINAR

We are very proud and privileged to have one of our own PPGA Members, now an Author, presenting our November Webinar. This webinar is targeted at any dog guardian and especially pet dog guardians.
Have you ever wondered if your dog is….well…normal? They do the weirdest things after all. The fact is, dogs do dog things. They are dogs, after all. But sometimes I think we humans forget that the furry 4-legged family member we share our lives with is a completely different species with needs and wants that differ greatly to our own.
In this webinar, we’re going take a look at what behaviours are “normal” based on a dog’s breed and age (and just the mere fact that they’re dogs!), and what isn’t. Get an insight into what’s “normal” for your dog, and for dogs in general.

🐾✨ Ever wondered how our furry friends experience the world? 🌍🐶

Dogs perceive their surroundings in a way that's both fascinating and unique! With their incredible sense of smell, they can detect scents at incredibly low concentrations, allowing them to explore the world through a rich tapestry of scents. Imagine walking through a park, and instead of just seeing the trees and grass, your pup is experiencing a symphony of smells telling stories of all the life that has passed by.

THEORY THURSDAY
Why consent matters in the animal world too! Marc Bokoff Ph.D and Mary Angilly share some great information in their blog post on consent training.

“The lack of choice and control can be traumatic and emotionally damaging, particularly when it comes to bodily autonomy, something with which numerous humans are all too familiar. It’s essential to provide dogs with the opportunity to make choices and be asked for their consent when and where it’s safe to do so, and their veterinary care and grooming should not be exceptions.”

The kinder way to train for snake safety this summer.
04/10/2024

The kinder way to train for snake safety this summer.

It's that time of year when snakes are more active in Australia. The best way to avoid pets getting bitten is prevention.
- Keep grass short and gardens tidy.
- Block holes that snakes may use to access your home.
- Use rat (and snake) -proof chicken sheds and compost bins.
- Use a snake proof house-yard or dog-run outdoors on rural properties, or keep pets indoors when you can't supervise.

If you walk your dog off leash or on longlines through the bush, or areas where snakes are likely to be present, then you may consider 'Snake avoidance training'. This can be taught using positive reinforcement for a behaviour like "When you see a snake, return to me and nudge my leg with your nose". There is no need to use shock, force or fear.

Regardless of what training and prevention program you put in place, snake bites can still happen. Know the signs of snake envenomation (dogs may show one or more of these signs):
- Sudden weakness followed by collapse (even if the pet then seems to recover)
- Shaking or twitching of the muscles
- Vomiting
- Dilated pupils
- Blood in the urine
- Weakness or paralysis
If you see any of these signs, bring your pet into your veterinary clinic immediately.

If you find your pet with a snake and the pet may have been bitten, then have them checked by the vet just in case. Don't try to capture or kill the snake.

Pet health insurance is worth considering as snake envenomation can be life-threatening and often requires extensive treatment including anti-venom and hospitalisation.

Watching these little furballs learn and grow is truly a delight!

We believe in the power of positive reinforcement training. This method not only helps our pups develop good behaviour but also strengthens the bond between them and their humans. By rewarding good behaviour with treats, praise, and affection, we create a fun and supportive learning environment that sets them up for success!
