Eden Hills Equine We value great horsemanship, equitation, and mutual respect and care for our barn animals and humans.
(4)

Our team is comprised of trainers that are novice and professional equestrians, barn staff that truly care for the wellbeing of our horses, and our family! We are a homeschool family that not only loves horses, but have decades of experience in caring for our most beloved family pets. Our children and several homeschooling families are in an active training program with phenomenal on-site trainers

. We live on the ranch and are active in the daily operations. Our lesson students currently show h/j, dressage, and take trips for cross country schooling. Eden Hills Equine is managed by our family, so we are able to monitor and get to know each horse and owner individually. We are not a fancy competition barn and are not a particularly busy place. Equestrians that value a relaxing, off the beaten path, well maintained facility, low key, and relaxing place, are welcome to inquire about boarding and or lessons.

The weather is finally not offensive and we have been out and about having some fun at Coyote Springs! Becca Speer almost made me run behind her car for leaving a horse and Madison Watts left me uncaffinated. 😂 Fun was had most importantly. Big thanks to Becca for coaching today and walking a mile with me!

Hmmm…well when someone drinks the coffee they bring you, it calls for an impromptu mission through a drive through. Felt like a swift driver 🫣 but we made it! Wonder who had more of the pup cups? 😂😂😂 Where did we go? …more to come!

We are to thankful for the rain. It was much needed. Came down hard and fast. Morning after enjoying the cooler breeze, sun that isn’t scorching, and an arena that drained well with perfect footing 😍🙌🏽

Whoa what a Day 2!

with Martin Arnold of Concordia Dressage

We had a day packed full of wonderful riders from Lone Star Pony Club.

My notes are extensive, but I’ll just leave a few tidbits here.

The translations always tell us the truth

The longer they get in the canter, the more suspension they loose. Canter with no suspension is a trot.

Any deviation from a proper circle geometry is a loss of bend

You go where you’re looking!

The warmup is about setting the tone

Always training horses in two directions: lateral and longitudinal.

Our job is to put the horses in the situation that they want to go on the bit.

Incredible Day 1 with Lone Star Pony Club & Martin Arnold of Concordia Dressage!
Riding is always amazing, but don’t discredit the power of auditing. I literally took notes.
Here are a few gems (some of the most powerful ones I can’t put into words…demo required)

1. Horse training is shutting their evasions down one by one

2. It’s always easier to maintain balance and connection rather than try to fix it

3. Tough horses make good riders (Guess the horse/rider pair🫣😂)

4. You don’t want to add power into the wrong balance

Riding is so much more than just sitting on the horse. Someone in the wild asked recently about when kids learn to “put all the things on the horse”. I chuckled. From day one.

When my kids couldn’t carry the saddle alone they still helped carry what they could. When they couldn’t lift a hoof and hold with tiny hands, we held and they picked. When they weren’t tall enough to bridle, we lifted them to buckle. They could walk you through the process before they were tall enough to do it alone.

Our riders learn how to appropriately care for their horses. Grooming is also relationship building. Sometimes things you notice while grooming determine IF or HOW you ride. Taking care of your tack is also important. Did you inspect it before riding? Did you clean it afterwards?

I can go on forever about this! If you want to ride, take the time to learn the “boring stuff”, and do the work. Mean Mom signing off.

I was sitting here looking at pictures from this past week and a swarm of gratitude hit me. I’m thankful for how far our little backyard barn has come in just a few years. I’m grateful for our village. This is my happy place and we love being able to share it. Kids and ponies for your viewing pleasure 😍
