Mama moved to AC HQ because we needed to increase the frequency of subcutaneous fluids. She was a little lethargic after her vet visit and the move, but now I think we're getting back on track.

Our incubator is a chick brooder, and I find it darkly amusing that the chick on the side of it looks like a ghost!

Cat rescue. It's heartbreak interrupted by absurdity 😅

At with Mama. Not very exciting photos as she was seen in back and I don't want to bother her.

Her temp is up to 99 degrees! (Normal is 102). But considering we've had to reanimate her from basically frozen, we are psyched. Just a few more degrees to go! She was unreadable (under 80... a lot under 80) earlier in the week. She was 96 yesterday.

Her exam mirrored her caretakers' vet visit where nothing jumped out but a few theories, but we are using a different antibiotic to see if it will change things for her.

This morning she was on Denise's chest purring and doing biscuits, so we promise she is being given comfort in the meantime.

We also found out she is bonded to her daughter who is still living outside, so that will need to be addressed if Mama makes it.

Too many updates, not enough energy.

She continues to astound. She has started licking her face after feedings, and took two very unsteady steps tonight. She trilled at me to tell me to stop scritching her chin. She may not need to be in the incubator much longer.

We went over her last vet records, and we found a direction to start. 📋

She now pees, has pooped, and her temp is steadily rising with fewer episodes. This morning she lifted her head when we came in to give her fluids, and held herself up for a few seconds after being helped. These may seem small but this cat was frozen rigid with an unreadable temperature (i.e. a temp so low it was incompatible with life) just a few days ago. She is spending her days in an incubator with Denise feeding her tiny/frequent amounts to avoid refeeding syndrome.

WELL. We got a lot of answers... and have more questions. Denise has been taking loving care of kitty in her home and we've been coming by to administer fluids.

First, I was able to get a CLOSE personal look at kitty's junk today (she was so frail and fluffy we didn't want to hurt her prior) and he is a SHE.

Next, we heard back on her microchip (huzzah!) but unregistered to an owner (WHOMP WHOMP). It took some sleuthing but tracked down that she was "Mama," a TNR adult cat in 2014! 😯🤯 We found the colony caretakers and y'all, they are supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Sadly, they had taken her to a vet to see why she was losing weight and had a head tilt PRIOR to this event. The vet didn't find the reason, and then she disappeared.

So there is less likely that this kitty has a happy outcome, but we are getting Mama's records and seeing if there is anything more we can test/treat for. In the meantime she is in the lap of medicated luxury if it is her final days, and we will help end her suffering if needed.

Update on kitty found frozen to the ground: he is a neutered boy. Today he PURRED when getting neck scritches from two different people!

His body condition is horrifying. He would have frozen to death but he wasn't far from dying from starvation and dehydration, too. 😭 We can't promise anything but we're giving him a chance, and giving him more comfort than he has had in a long time.

We had a scary episode around 430am but he is back to resting seemingly comfy after some intervention.

If you have followed us for a while, you'll know when we're quiet it means a mix of busy with disaster. And it's been rough out there. We're doing good work but it's like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon. We've been out almost every day past midnight for weeks doing things like giving fluids to near-death kittens or injections to ferals.

We are being asked to help with endless emergencies, and we're doing our best but it's a lot for a few people trying to make a difference. It is agony having to say we can't help some cases and we know the cats(s) will die, which is now a daily occurrence.

Just a small sample of our last week efforts alone: a very sick/dying colony, someone shooting/poisoning cats at ANOTHER colony, a suddenly ill foster taken to the ER, and this morning 2 kittens who ingested a string toy.

We're a tiny org and we can't help every cat, but we want to save as many as we can. Please help us. I will post some of our vet expenses individually as soon as I am able.

Today, we drove 13 unsocialized cats to Wisconsin for spay/neuter. As always, both the coffee shop and thrift store did not disappoint.
