Animeow Control We are a 501c3 in MN, USA. We're cat rescuers in the Twin Cities (MN, USA) area. Primarily TNR which means trap, neuter/spay, vaccinate and return.

Our Motto: "There's a fix for that!"

TNR (trap/spay-neuter/vaccinate/return) helps control the homeless cat population; spay/neuter reduces behaviors like spraying, fighting, wandering and noise; and has great health benefits! This manages a healthier/happier stray population, and makes for happier neighbors.

Update: Confirmed Abby has neurological FIP. We have been treating her for a week and her improvement is astounding. This is fatal if not treated, and treatment is expensive. We would appreciate any help, we are not outfitted for expenses like this. This will be in the thousands.

If you're fortunate to live in an area that has someone doing TNR, take advantage of it. Many of you (in the US) are familiar with transports that take (mostly) cats and dogs from the high euthanasia States in the Southeast to Northern states (where I heard years ago have zero euthanizations and few animals available for adoption because their spay/neuter programs are so strictly enforced). I've heard repeatedly on FB & from every TNR/rescue person I know that this is THE worst kitten season ever. We've been saying that every year for the last 17 years. (Why aren't people getting any smarter in knowing what needs to be done?)

Today a friend posted on FB pics of a beautiful tortie kitten (est to be 7 weeks old) that she'd recently captured, seemingly near death from starvation (frightened, being chased by dogs, very skinny). In an effort to help her find a rescue to take the kitten, I contacted a long-time rescue friend who told me they can't take in any cats because "Massachusetts is full." I had to confirm what I thought that meant. Sure enough, rescues in the NE are full. I don't always stay current with the rescue situation (since I do TNR, I'm not usually affected), but this is the first time since starting TNR/rescue (17 years ago) I've heard that. That translates to more cats and dogs in the SE States will be euthanized. There is NO WHERE for them to go.💔😿

PLEASE, in the name of compassion for all living beings, spay/neuter your pets.🐈‍⬛️🐕🐈🐕‍🦺💕

The excuses for why they can’t take care of “THEIR” cat, that they’ve let get pregnant 5 times in the last 2 years. But WE drop everything to help THEM with THEIR urgent problem, yet we’re the bad guys. Uhhhh….ok!??!!

Abby is still unable to walk or stand well, if she shakes her head she falls over, but now she is purring and making biscuits after syringe feedings. I have to hold her up to do so sometimes which she seems to appreciate. Her right eye is now not fully dilated, finally. She is warming up to me, but it's possible we're only addressing her extreme dehydration and emaciation. Her underlying problem might be much more serious. Working on it.

The face of a stray cat getting better enough to object to sq fluids and being force-fed by more than just growling 😁 Her left eye is becoming less dilated, and she is spending more time trying to stand, though her right side is too weak yet. She is swallowing the syringe food much better- she tried eating regular food but it just fell out of her mouth. AND SHE POOPED for the first time! This girl IS a fighter. Can't even list all her improvements they are coming so fast now.

Except that she caught a URI (upper respiratory infection). Drat. So today we'll get antibiotics.

We also have her on refeeding protocol because she is THAT thin and dehydrated. This poor cat. Just hoping she doesn't decide to maul me when she feels well enough 🤣😅

Also... This emaciated shy cutie doesn't have a name yet.

Abby is rough. She requires 24/7 supportive care and is mostly prone. I hope she is a fighter. No response to sound or sight, but does respond to touch. Not our first rodeo, and we won't let her suffer IF she ends up with a bad prognosis. But only now are her symptoms starting to abate enough to form a theory of what is wrong (TBA). And if we are right, she has a decent chance.

The fact that she is still alive 2 days after being so close to gone IS a good sign.

Still with us. We are trying so hard. She has been named Abby after the NCIS character.

It's been a really horrific week in rescue. We've assisted and advised on a half dozen cases every day, while also trying to fundraise. There have been a lot of not good outcomes. And a few we absolutely could not help with and that HURTS. Hearing of torture, suffering and death constantly darkens your soul. But not helping would extinguish it. Not entirely sure one won't eventually lead to the other.

Rescuers are tired. I don't even know what else to say.

Our girl Veronica has been lonely so we tried sending her to a foster to get more attention and socializing with more people. While she was lovey to the foster, she showed she was absolutely terrified by going on a hunger strike. We have her back with us, knowing that her next leap is going to have to be her leap home. In the meantime we'll try to make her a lil' more brave.

You can be a rescuer. You don't have to do backflips through flaming hoops like we do. But we're all volunteers, and since the massively-funded Animal Humane Society deliberately slowed and then stopped providing no-cost TNR surgeries, we are overwhelmed.

Cats have kittens every 3 months. Each litter has around 5 kittens. Kittens can get pregnant at 4 months. If you weren't aware of the unhoused cat problem, you will be soon.

Did you know you can be a rescuer too?

We can only do so much. That’s why we need you!

If you find a kitten, start here!! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

This was posted on another page and may help those of you who find a kitten(s). 🐈‍⬛🐱Most shelters and rescues are full and get messages daily about kittens.

“Everyone is finding little kittens riddled with fleas. If kittens are under 2 pounds, we don’t do anything for fleas but a bath in Dawn. But please do so, especially if their gums are turning white. Otherwise, chemicals are too toxic for them if not at 2 lbs.

However if you find a kitten that is lethargic, please give it a tad of karo syrup immediately and then a few more times an hour to get its blood sugar back up and keep it on a heating source before you give it a bath. Because no matter how warm or lukewarm your water is that you are bathing it in, a bath will drop their body temperature just a tad and that might be all it takes to slip over the rainbow bridge.

Kittens with goopy eyes should be cleaned with warm water and given terramycin ointment in their eyes 3 times a day. You can find it at Tractor Supply.

We can all do our part to help. Because most likely when you find one it will take days to find someone to help you with it and what you do for it in those couple of days could mean life or death. And please DO NOT GIVE IT COWS MILK.

If it won't eat canned kitten food, you can give it chicken flavored baby food or kitten formula depending on age.

If you find a litter of kittens under 3-4 weeks of age, leave them alone! If they are quiet and healthy they have a mama. If they are sick and screaming, most likely they don’t. Know when to intervene and when not to.”

This.

This weekend has been tough! If you are reaching out for help from us, we are sorry, but we cannot right now!!! This message comes to you from our unpaid president and director who I promise is working tirelessly every day of every week of every year for 11 years. This was a response to yet another "but can't you help this one kitty" message...
"We have 170 cats in our care plus a colony of 40-50 "just one kitty's" that we can't rescue fast enough. They have nobody feeding them at their vacant home except for us every day. Our cages are full. Otherwise, we would catch all of them so that we didn't have to spend hours out of our day caring for them. We have also fixed 435 outdoor cats already this year and returned them back to where they were found whether they were friendly or not. We had multiple people walk into our rescue this weekend angry with us because we couldn't help with just a kitty or two. We had many more send us messages with just a kitty or two. If you have a magical answer for how we can help all of them and not give up on ones we have already committed to, please let us know. Otherwise I promise you, we are trying, but please keep trying for that kitty or two that needs you to keep trying."
Eleven years ago I said someone should do something and you know what I did? I did something and I do something every day but I can't do everything and neither can this amazing team of 50+ volunteers that does something every week for so many!!!! We don't say no because we don't want to help... We say no, because we truly don't have the time, space or money to help everyone. And that hurts our hearts deeply. Please be someone and find your own way to help whether you help us or you help a cat that we don't have the room for! We are all someone who can do something...

Hazel is doing great. This is the kitten we provided care to overnight so Delaney could get her first night of sleep in days. Hazel spent some time with a vet tech to stabilize her, then Delaney has been caring for her. But hey Hazel hasn't crashed in days, and we are optimistic for her chances.

Hazel and the others have been pretty dang expensive, so you could help Delaney out by sending a few bucks to the resources listed in the second photo.
