🔥 Burning On Shoe’s 🔥
Why do we hot shoe? 🤔 This is a question I regularly get asked.
The simple answer is… it is easier for the Farrier to shape the shoe to fit to the horse’s foot ⚒️ and to ensure that the foot and the shoe have maximum congruency 🙏🏻
This does not hurt the horse because the shoe is only ‘charring’ the distal aspect of the hoof wall (a very thick toe nail with no sensitive structures) and lasts only a few seconds 💨 (video is in slow motion 🤣)
However, some horse’s do have thinner feet and in this situation I would cold shoe, not hot 🐎 #farrier #farrierlife #hotshoe #farriersofinstagram #horsesofinstagram #equestrainlife

A simple ‘Cold’ refit ⚒️ I will refit shoes that will last another shoeing cycle if the owner is happy with that of course. It saves me scrapping good shoes and also saves the customer some money too 💰👍🏻

‘Hot’ or ‘Cold’ shoeing refers to whether or not a Farrier heats up the shoe in the Forge or not. Typically Hot shoeing is preferred because it’s easier to shape the shoes on the anvil (Hotter they are, the more malleable they are)🔥 Because this was a refit with very little alterations to the shoes, there was no need to heat the shoes up 💪🏻

Burning On 🔥
💨 Short & Smoky 💨
Burning a Shoe on, not much difference between Cold ❄️ & Hot 🔥 Shoeing, apart from the temperature. The main advantage of Hot Shoeing is it’s easier for the Farrier to shape the shoe, but it also creates a better congruence between the Foot & Shoe 👠👍🏻
Cold Shoeing is still just as good as Hot Shoeing and is actually a better option for some situations…. Eg…. Young Horses, Dry Feet, Hot Weather, Impatient Horses…. Etc The list goes on 🐎 🐎🐎
So don’t be fooled when someone says that Cold / Hot Shoeing is no good….. Listen to the advice of your Farrier! We do 5/6 years training so we can provide the best services for your equines welfare 💪🏻🐎👍🏻😃

This is a very simplified post, As always, there are many other factors which contribute to why a Farrier will Shoe your horse Hot or Cold ❄️🔥❄️🔥
