The Pygmy Patch We raise unregistered pygmy goats for 4-h and pets. We have a small herd of non-registered pygmy goats we raise for 4-h and pets.....but mostly just for fun.

We have had pygmy goats since 2004. We love their personalities, and try to maintain a happy, healthy herd. We spend lots of time with our babies to keep them tame and friendly and love to find new loving homes for them.

I finally got a couple of better pictures so I will officially introduce Miss Josie! She is a little spitfire! Her momma is Lily, and this is her first kidding. She has done a great job and took to mothering right away. Looking forward to spoiling this little one!

Well, it looks like kidding season is officially over. 3 does apparently did not take, one lost twin bucklings three weeks premature, and finally tonight this single little doe. She is doing well….up and nursing super quickly. I will get better pics tomorrow. She is going to be one spoiled little girl. 🤣😂

So blessed to have had good kidding seasons for the last couple of years! I certainly pray our start this year isn’t indicative of what is to come ☹️. Little Miss Heather had two caramel bucklings today, a little over three weeks early. Not sure why she went early, both appeared to be healthy. The second one was not positioned well, and I was unable to get him completely repositioned. Left her alone for a bit and she was somehow able to get him pushed out! It was a tough one for her and I am praying she gets through it!

RIP Ms. Courtney 😢😢. You were such a sweet little soul and will be missed! Never did figure out what exactly ailed you, but I tried my best. So glad we have your little mini me, Rachel, and her sister Phoebe to carry on your sweetness!

Cleaned, winterized and bedded the houses yesterday. We also did a little fence work and scooped some muck out of the pen where the mud wants to congregate. Tried to rake out some of the leaves before the rain but they were falling as fast as we were raking 🍁 🍁. One doe went to her new home this week, and hopefully a couple more are heading to new homes this weekend. Next up: taking the does to visit the buck for next year’s babies.

Update on Jersey and her kids.....Jersey is doing much better. She is up and moving around, but very slow. She is eating and drinking pretty good. Jackson is drinking from the bottle regularly...about two ounces every four hours. Trenton ( the one with the curly ear) has found momma and is nursing!!! I finally caught him in the act during one of my late night feedings last night. I kind of thought he was because he was only taking the bottle sporadically and seemed satisfied. It has been a long few days, but I am thankful everyone is doing well!

Meet Jackson and Trenton ( because they are both from Jersey 🤣😂)! Poor momma has looked like she was ready to kid for about three weeks now. First time kidder.....triplet bucklings! It was a rough go and the middle one didn’t make it ☹️. I have been up most of the night trying to bottle feed these two as momma just wasn’t up to it. She is looking a little better this morning and both boys have taken momma’s milk from a bottle. I am hoping they are able to find her and nurse eventually, but I want to be sure they are filling their bellies.

The second batch arrived late last night! Really wish she would have waited for warmer weather, but we were prepared, and all are doing well. Momma isn’t sure she wants them to nurse, but I have been holding her and she seems to be getting better. Pretty sure they are both does but it was dark and cold and I was concentrating on getting them dry and warm.

Let the girls out to enjoy the weather and get some exercise and nibbling yesterday. They seemed kind of lost without old Zak to lead them into trouble and we had to work to get them to leave the pen.. Zak was our 15 year old wether we lost this winter, and always an instigator.

Six of my girls went to visit the buck today! (I share him with a friend and she has better facilities for him than I do, so she keeps him at her place). So hopefully we will have healthy babies In late April/early May. He is a registered caramel.

Another day spent getting things done before winter. It isn’t anything fancy, but hopefully it will help keep their salt and mineral dry. We used the limited tools, supplies, and knowledge we had on hand.

Spent this beautiful afternoon getting hooves trimmed for winter. Found another great advantage to our pallet platform......just walked everyone up the platform onto the stand.....no lifting, and I didn’t have to do the biggest two goats on the ground. This is Zak, our old man. He is going to be 15 in March. He was our first baby!

We said goodbye to our final "for sale" kid of the 2020 season today, Benny. His big sister, Beatrice, went along to be his pasture mate. So thankful to have had a very successful kidding year, and to have found homes for the ones we could not keep. Sure wish we could keep them all.....it is always hard to see them go.

We spent the day yesterday putting together a platform palace for them to play on using plywood pallets. We also put them under their hay barrels to keep them from digging out around the barrel (and for them to lay on apparently :) ). I think they like it!
