I took Ricky and Cali to diving dogs today. What a wonderful amenity to have nearby! Mike was a fantastic host who allowed us to experiment but was also right there to give us guidance in getting started.
Both dogs did more than I expected considering they've never really gone swimming before!

Daycare Cancelled due to heat.
Look y'all! I love summer, but when temperatures get this high, the dangers of dogs overheating while simply laying around is a real threat. Sometimes the safest place for your dog is at home in the crate and today I believe that's the case. Stay cool and drink some water🐾❤️

Ricky and I got an AMAZING opportunity to learn from one of the absolute greats this past weekend! If you don't follow dog sports, Debbie Zappia and her dog Iron von den Wolfen “Eros” represented the United States as USA1 at the World Championships in Finland and made history when she became the first American to win the WUSV IPO World Championships!
She was so generous with her knowledge and patience with us and I'm so thankful for it.
The awesome thing about training dogs is that the more you learn, the more there is to learn!!
To infinity and beyond!!🤯🐾❤️

Belated welcome to Figment! This very interesting & sturdy doodle of a different color is here to formalize her obedience training. She already knows some stuff but also has some strong opinions, mostly about which ever direction she'd prefer to go in. Her leash chewing & pulling has made it difficult for her owner to take her to all the wonderful places in the past. Let's see if we can convince her that a nice Heel is the fastest way from point A to point B!

Oh man, I love a good cattle dog!
Welcome, Muso. He's an 8ish month old intact male Heeler here to see all the sights and do all the things!
This intuitive breed automatically does a lot of things right for their humans, but in typical cattle dog form they also can be very intense and need a little help developing an off-switch. Muso is also at that delicate adolescent age where new experiences can be very scary ( developmental fear phase) so I'm going to make sure every exposure leaves him feeling like a winner! Here's to the beginning of a BIG, go anywhere, do everything life, Muso!!

Walker Update! We are in the final stretch of his B&T. House mate, Ripley has joined us to tune up his skills and pull all the pieces together! Samantha has been helping me proof their training together today. I think she'll make a heck of a trainer someday!

Warm welcome to Walker who is embarking on his 3 week board and train journey. This cool Aussie dude is going to learn all of his commands and be proofed around all of the distractions I can think of so he can go back home and live his biggest, off-leash life at his farm🐾🐾 We can't have his housemate Rip ( Ripley 2021 grad) taking him to the train station😂

There is an industry-wide shortage of the canine influenza vaccine. Cases of canine flu have skyrocketed in the past few years, possibly due to the increased popularity of canine social experiences such as daycare. It's also summer time with many people traveling and utilizing boarding services.
All dogs that come to Farm To Family must be up to date on their vaccines.👉 Here's a reminder to call your vet well BEFORE you need to board!!

Big welcome to Jaxon the almost 1 year old GSP.
He's coming in with some obedience foundation already laid, but we're going to build on that and firm up a solid, eCollar off-leash recall and gain public access experience so he can become the "Go anywhere, Do anything" kinda guy his humans desire!
This fun guy has lots of energy and drive. I'm super excited to work with him:)
And check out his strong head tilt game!!!

This is a long one but if you are interested in the nuts and bolts of how I get started working with a scared dog, this is a good one to watch. There's a series of things happening here. Astra is showing signs of fear because she's experiencing unfamiliar territory and that's ok. She's in a new place and lacks the experience or knowledge of what to do or what is likely to happen. I'm giving her enough freedom to experiment with in a controlled environment. She gains confidence with experience because she's building knowledge and expectations of likely outcomes. Let's see what she learns...
Pay attention to her fearful behavior at the beginning and then at the end. What did you observe?

That's right y'all! It's gonna be/is May!
I'm reflecting on a VERY busy April with two 3 week B&T house mates, Copper & Maribel, 16 of our old friends came back for boarding, many stayed for a week or more, in addition to the regular daycare crew that comes to work hard and play harder twice a week AND a huge tree down on the exercise yard fence. Phew!!!
I'm a little behind on social media updates but I'm hoping to get back to it shortly 💪 A quick welcome to May's training project, 7 month old puppy, Astra🌠

The dogs are really enjoying the " Jungle Gym" created by this weekend's storms. Thankfully squashed fences aren't that big of an issue when your dogs have solid recall!
