Thank you to all of our brave volunteers who loaded 50 more cats into upstate spay/neuter van! Even 20 degree weather doesn’t stop the need for care for our feline companions.

We are sold out for December, message us in February 2026 if you are looking for spay/neuter services. Animal Protective Foundation in Schenectady does have affordable appointments all year round.

This podcast brought tears to my eyes when I listened to the first episode today; not just to know that there are other aligned organisations, but also because the way that these rescuers are framing the problem, and the magnitude of the problem, aligns so closely to my experience. If you get a chance, it is highly recommended!

Caturday Evening Vibes: New Law, New Directions!

A new animal sheltering law takes effect in New York State on December 15th, impacting Operation Snip's operations. As a volunteer-based organization with limited resources, we cannot assume additional administrative responsibilities. Consequently, we will discontinue direct fostering and adoption services.

However, we will be happy to use our platforms to provide resources and facilitate connections between adopters and individual rescuers. Our commitment to hosting the Upstate Spay Neuter Van for affordable spay/neuter services remains unchanged. We will also continue to refer individuals to rescues with more resources and will no longer identify as a foster based rescue. We are still happy to lend traps and support for TNR.

About Us

Operation Snip was started by former Troy City Council President, Lynn Kopka, in March of 2012. What began as a Trap-Neuter-Return program for feral cats living throughout Troy’s abandoned buildings and alleyways, it has morphed into providing loving homes to friendly cats & kittens also found on the streets.

Our adoptable cats are available through a number of cat adoption groups. If you wish to give a cat a forever home, many of our cats go to Whiskers in Albany and Noah’s Kingdom, or check the clinics at Healthy Pet Center, Petco and PetSmart. You can also send us a message if you’d like to adopt a cat featured on our page! There are so many wonderful cats looking for a home that you will certainly find just the right cat for you and your family.

We operate solely by donation and fundraisers. If you would like to donate:

Donations to Operation Snip can be made through the Washington Park Association of Troy, N.Y. Please write the checks payable to: “Friends of Washington Park.” You must write “Snip” in the memo.
