Helpful for the nervous ones 🥰

6 ways to prepare your pets for fireworks

Get ready to bundle
Create a cosy place or den for your pets to curl up and feel safe. Get them used to this spot before the night you need it.

Act natural
Your pets pick up on everything you do, remaining calm will help them relax.

Prepare for p*e
Make sure your pets have a place to relieve themselves inside, such as a puppy pad (dog) or litter box (cat). If they need to go outdoors - keep them on a lead!

Paranormal cativity
Keep windows closed and reduce extra inside noise to make sure they don't get startled. Remember, their hearing is much better than ours.

Keep calm and carry on
Speak with your vet about what safe products you can use to help alleviate your pet's stress, such as pheromones, thunder shirts or calming sprays.

Pawlates
An earlier walking routine will help you avoid being outdoors at nightfall when fireworks begin and also release some of their anxious energy beforehand.

Tell-tail signs your pets are feeling nervous:
• Their ears are back or very alert
• Excessive drooling, lip licking or yawning
• Constant panting or keeping their mouth tightly closed
• Barking non-stop, whining or whimpering
• Restless and can't settle down
• Hiding (particularly with cats)
• Eating or drinking less than normal
• Ears are alert
•Tail is pointing straight up

🐾 ❤️ Who's walk is it anyway? 🐾
We know what it's like, when you need to get the dog walk done, need to get the loop completed so you can do the next thing on your list.
Or
Your dog is being very excitable at home so perhaps a 5 mile walk will help.
Pause and think.... who is this walk for?

Walking a dog is so much more than packing in the miles.
A walk is mental exercise as much as physical.
Sniffing and allowing your dogs to spend time sniffing on their walks is as important as the distance.

- Sniffing calms dogs, lowers pulse rate and nerves, makes them better able to cope with new places, people and meet other dogs calmly.

- Sniffing reduced the stress hormone, cortisol, making a happier healthier dog.

- Sniffing stimulates and tires busy brains, processing all those smells and messages is exhausting = long naps afterward.
Sniffing games are great in the home if you need to tire, relax and calm a dog at home as well as on a walk.

- Sniffing keeps old dogs sprightly! The changing world and neural processing that takes is great for older dogs, keeping their brains sharp even if they can do the longer walks anymore.

- Sniffing builds confidence, allowing them to choose when to stop and sniff and when to move on gives dogs control of their environment.

- Sniffing is a natural outlet, there's nothing more instinctive than sniffing and smelling, this time allows your dog to be a dog! Which means a happier, balances dog all round.
