Royal Bird Company, handfeeding baby yellow naped amazons, handfed african grey parrots, double yellow head amazons, blue gold macaws. We have been one of the most dedicated responsible breeding facilties for over 30 years. We started our business in the late 70s and early 80s as import quarantine liquidators, As time went on we started the breeding operation to supply babies to the trade. As our

collection grew so did the knowledge needed to properly house, feed and maintain these birds. At one time we had in our collection upwards of 300 pair of breeding birds at the compound, all large species. We very quickly learned that conures and others were not what we wanted to breed and or keep. We focused on companion species that we thought made good household pets. We also incorporated a large amount of buildings to our own research on nutrition, breeding, advanced handfeeding techniques, advanced incubation procedures, mutation studies, rare species studies. With these programs in place and our resources we quickly became one of the most successful facilities in the USA. Our main focus was and still is, education to the bird owners and breeders about responsible ownership and to the breeders responsible breeding. We focus only on real species, we do not condone the breeding of or breed hybrids of any type for any reasons. As there is absolutely no logical reason for this practice of bloodline pollution. As real professional aviculturists we must try to promote the ownership of, the breeding of only pure species. There is no bird that is as beautiful as the god given species one sees flying overhead and in the jungles and in the natural ranges around the world. Royal Bird Company is dedicated to the responsible ownership and breeding of these wonderful creatures.

This baby female yellow nape hatched in june 8 2024.
Already starting to vocalize and talk, and such a good bird. She plays like a puppy. This will be the last baby yellow nape amazon parrot this breeding season year. Next breeding season starts in spring 2025.

Yellow naped amazon parrots and blue fronted amazons. Many species of central american species such as the yellow naped amazon are becoming more uncommon in the wild due to poaching and deforestation. Nesting sites are being cut down and many have no where to lay their eggs. The wild populations are starting to decline faster each year. Many species are now listed as protected species. Here at Royal Bird Company Avicultural Breeding Research Center we have several programs focused on the yellow naped amazon as well other species of amazons. The yellow naped and blue fronted are some of the best talkers. All our babies are talking and vocalizing at very early ages. The birds in this video was already talking at 12-15 weeks. But this is not a great feat for yellow napes as they tend to be very talented at early ages. I have never seen a yellow naped amazon that did not talk very well. Here is video of a few baby blue and gold macaws. The babies are not available. The video was meant to show the type bedding we use for our baby parrots cockatoos and macaws. We use the natural style Carefresh Pet Bedding. We never use wood shavings or dangerous things such as that. The carefresh bedding is paper and can be ingested and is non toxic. On the other hand wooden shavings when used for substrate can be swallowed and stuck in the crop and cause damage. The wood also harbors bacteria and other pathogens where the Carefresh bedding actually inhibits to a point. These babies are example of high quality rearing and selective breeding results. for more info follow us and visit our website. www.royalbirdcompany.com.

TO ALL CUSTOMERS: The last baby amazons that have just become ready are delayed in sale (yellow naped amazons, blue fronted amazons, etc,). We have been waiting on the final DNA gender/sex test and final Health DNA screenings from the lab. The lab now has delayed results due to power outages and the hurricane damage at their facilities in tallahasse florida. We have many people asking to go ahead come and pick up their birds now, but we cannot let them go until we get the final paperwork from the lab. All of our birds are DNA health screened and tested before we sell them, its policy and common sense. Some DNA results did come in on a few birds before the hurricane and those birds were allowed to leave before the storm came in. Our area was hard hit by hurricane helene remnants as well many western NC areas, and we was out of power(many still out) and have trees down on some of our breeder barns. As soon as the last final DNA screening results are in, all birds are ready to go. We thank everyone that has been in contact making sure we was OK. stay safe.

Royal Bird Company Questions and Answers: Almost daily we get as many 50 or more emails, facebook messages, and calls with questions. today we got this one. From Teresa D. Winchester, VA. Hi there mike and sheila i have followed you on facebook and i subscribe to your youtube channel for years. I see on some of your post of testimonials of customers that you supply a starter package for your birds when someone buys. What is in this kit? and what do i have to buy before bringing my bird home? My friend brought home a baby cockatoo from a local shop here in VA and they gave nothing and now they seem to be clueless about care.. i am just asking for future i want one of your birds SOON.. ANSWER: Well, Teresa, Since it was a baby cockatoo, Your friend should have done the research and made sure of what they was doing, baby cockatoos are difficult and needs special care. But your friend at the very least should have gotten health screening documents and some foods, But here, on all baby birds, we do supply almost everything you need to get you started off. for starters we give dna sexing and health testing documents. We also give starter foods and give you a travel pet carrier. But you will find in time that you will have to adjust things for your own needs. I cant go into everything that we give with each bird ,as each bird that leaves here may need something different as each birds needs may not be the same as the next. But I have included a video in the post to show you the extent of what we start you off with when picking up. and we are only a call away when our customers need help. Note: the video shows birds as examples from 2020 and not available. ,

Baby Simon the african grey went home saturday august 17 2024. Eileen and Christian came down from Union Mills, NC. They own the Thermal City Gold & Gem Mine in Union Mills. Wonderful people and we think they will give Simon a great forever home. They have waited on Simon for almost 18 weeks. Christian did own an african grey parrot before ,so he knows they are quirky. Sheila has talked to Eileen and she said they love him and he has settled in and already playing and running around on the floor with his toys. Thats good news but we will miss him.

Questions and answers: We get emails, facebook messenger, phone calls each day. Many asking questions and wanting advise. Some days we get over a 100 messages. we just cannot answer them all directly but will try. Below is a message we got today: The email message.. FROM: Roshanda T. reno, NV. excuse my writing english. Hi i was asking a question please sir. I have the opportunity to buy some parrots, he tell me they are he calls the birds that are proved to breed. What does that really mean? and he tells me they prove to breed will the parrots have baby at my house. he tells me he guarantees this thing. what do i do to make them have a baby? should i get my money back if these parrots do not have eggs. sorry to have so many questions for you mr royal. MY ANSWER: well, Roshanda, First thing is You are not getting any money back, i can guarantee that for sure, once the money has changed hands you are stuck. But as far as the proven breeder thing.. i think the seller is telling you the birds are what we call "proven breeders".
If this is true.. This ONLY means the birds have actually produced eggs and were successful of being fertile and hatched where they are. I am always skeptical when i hear this as we hear certain people say they are selling socalled proven breeder birds only meaning the birds have laid an egg. that is not proven breeders. Also understand this,, people do lie, and in this industry of animal and bird breeders, and sellers, MANY do tell lies. Some people may just falsely put that label of proven breeder on birds to sell them faster. The red flag i see is that someone tells someone they "guarantee" that birds will breed for YOU. No one can do this truthfully. I have many breeder pairs that have been very successful here, some for over 20 years being great breeders, However I could not sell them to you and tell you "i guarantee" they will do the same for you. Infact we have real proven breeders here i could move them to another breeder cage somewhere on my property only a few feet away from where they were and they might not ever produce again. The reason birds are successful with reproducing is the pair were feeling secure in the environment they was in, everything was correct for them, diets, placement of nest boxes, the way birds are fed, what time they are fed, where cages are placed, how much traffic is in the area, even which way the nest box is placed entry hole facing north south east west all makes a difference to certain pairs. and sometimes after these things and needs are met, still some pairs refuse to breed. Given the fact that they was reproducing in one place will not mean they will do the same for you or somewhere else and also the opposite as well. For example, we had a very very nice pair of lilac crowned amazons, they have the reputation of being a little hard to breed. We obtained them around 1988 and we had them in the same exact location, same diets, same nest boxes, same everything beside where over 50 pair of amazons were reproducing very successfully. But they simply never attempted to enter the nest box. After 12 years of trying different things changing nest box designs, changed diets, etc, them being uncommon species and later becoming a protected species in their own wild habitat we still kept them. After this 12 years, we were making some modifications on the roof of the aviary that housed them and others and we moved them to a holding cage for maybe a week or 2. Moved them back to the same breeding unit, same exact everything. nothing changed but the roof was repaired. Within a couple weeks, they entered the nest box and after another month they produced several eggs all fertile, and became excellent and reliable breeders. It was the move and move back caused a stimulation. When it comes to bird breeding, anything can happen and sometimes nothing happens and there is no guarantee, and anyone that tells you, they guarantee something, Beware. So, good luck and be careful of the scammers. thanks, Mike Richard, Royal Bird Company Avicultural Breeding Research Center. I have included a video of a couple pair of amazons that started showing nesting behavior.

Our Story

Royal Bird Company, Avicultural Breeding Research Center. World largest breeding research program for Yellow Naped Amazon parrots, african grey parrots, double yellow head amazon parrots, cockatoos, macaws. Owned and operated by Mike and Sheila Richard, authors and researchers in aviculture. Producing handfed baby parrots for the responsible pet owners. We have been one of the most dedicated responsible breeding facilities in the USA since 1980. We started our business in the late 70s and early 80s as import quarantine liquidators and financed our breeding/research operation start. We started the breeding operation to supply babies and future domestic breeding stock to the trade. As our collection grew so did the hard learned knowledge needed to properly house, feed and maintain these birds. At one time we had in our collection upwards of 300 pair of breeding birds at the compound, all large species. We very quickly learned that conures and some others were not what we wanted to breed and or keep. Many species are well known for several illnesses such as conures with the devasting pachecos virus. We stayed away from problem birds from the start. We focused on companion species that we thought made good avian companions. We also had focus on several rare species and rare genetic mutations. We commited large amount of breeder buildings to our own research study programs on nutrition, breeding, advanced handfeeding techniques, advanced incubation procedures, genetic mutation studies, endangered and rare species studies. With these programs in place and our resources we quickly became one of the most successful and selective facilities in the USA. Our main focus was and still is, education to the bird owners and breeders about responsible ownership and to responsible selective breeding. We focus only on real true species, we do not condone the breeding of or breed hybrids of any type for any reasons. As there is absolutely no logical reason for this unethical practice of bloodline pollution. As real professional aviculturist we must try to promote the ownership of and the breeding of only pure species. There is no bird that is as beautiful as the god given species one sees flying overhead in the jungles in the natural ranges around the world. Royal Bird Company is dedicated to the responsible ownership of these wonderful creatures. Most of our breeding stock are the offspring of original imported stock direct from the jungles from around the world. This enabled us to truthfully keep original bloodlines pure. We chose not to interbreed subspecies and only kept species and subspecies paired together. Real professional aviculture is to maintain and breed pure bloodlines and pure species as they are in their wild habitats. www.royalbirdcompany.com
