Putting out a bit of food can really help mammals like hedgehogs. Why not make a feeding station? 🦔

🦔🦔🦔Welcome to hedgehog awareness week Day 7 🦔🦔🦔

Recap of the week ☺️

If you find a hedgehog out in the day unless it’s moving with purpose it needs help. Hedgehogs are great at acting normally because they are a pray animal and don’t show weakness. By the time they are out in the day they are already sick. Time is of the essence the sooner they get help the more chance they will have ☺️. Please remember hedgehogs do not sunbathe 🦔 ☀️.

If you see a hedgehog with 10 or more ticks or in a cluster then they also need help ☺️. A hedgehog with flies buzzing around them also need help, as it’s very likely the flies will have laid eggs on them. Fly eggs look like sticky grains of rice. If you have found a hedgehog with this on them please do not give them heat and get them to a rescue immediately 🏨.

If you are able to provide food, kitten biscuits with protein as the first ingredient is best ☺️. You can also give cat/dog meat. Please leave out a dish of water💧. Especially when the weather is very warm and no puddles about.

I would also like to say a massive thank you for all the support in sharing my posts and the donations that have come in this week if you would like to donate you can via https://www.paypal.me/samslittleprickles
You can find previous days of hedgehog awareness week on my page ☺️.

We have covered over the past week:

Day 1 What to do if you find a sick/injured hedgehog.
Day 2 Dietary needs.
Day 3 Housing and feeding station.
Day 4 How to make your garden hedgehog friendly.
Day 5 Mother and babies
Day 6 General information

Thank you again for all your support ☺️ let’s keep spreading the word about hedgehogs so we can help them as they are now endangered 🦔 💜xx

Abit of information which is helpful

🦔🦔🦔Welcome to hedgehog awareness week 🦔🦔🦔

Going to start off with what to do when you find a sick/injured hedgehog🦔.

The common rule is: if out in the day it’s not ok 😢. However there is a exception to the rule which is: if they are moving with purpose leave alone. This can be a mother☺️.

What to look out for:

If they are wobbly when walking.

Lying on the ground, Hedgehogs don’t sunbath☀️ they are out warming up because the are sick.

Flies around them.

What to do:

Wear gardening gloves, scoop up in a towel and place in a high sided box and call your nearest rescue for advice on what to do next.

Here is a great chart to follow in the mean time ☺️🦔 xx

📣 This week for wildlife
🌹 Grow a green wall

Growing a green wall is an excellent option for helping wildlife if you don't have much outdoor space. The easiest way to start a green wall is by setting up a trellis or wireframe and planting climbing plants such as clematis or climbing rose.
