Ronnie ❤️❤️ Following the diagnosis of his palliative ear disease, Ronnie remains completely well in himself & is on lifelong pain relief. He’s super excited to join his new home next month and in the meantime he’s still enjoying his castle here (..which I’m worried we may need to surgically remove him from come moving day 😂😂)

To finish a sad weekend on a happier note, in the bonding pen this weekend has been insta celeb Mrs Norris & our beautiful Jasper. Jasper came into our care a traumatised shell of a rabbit and has come on leaps and bounds after spending some time out in foster. After a lovely start they have gone home to continue their bond. Be happy, buns ❤️❤️

We were super lucky last weekend to have been donated this incredible Happy Henrys Homes castle via Animal Rescue Volunteers. We are big on enrichment and this is perfect for our bunnies to enjoy whilst waiting for homes. I have genuinely never seen Ronnie so excited, he LOVES it 🥺 Thank you so much to both the person that donated it & ARV for thinking of us.

We got to him too late, he was too far gone. Early this morning this beautiful boy fell into his forever sleep. I stroked him as he left, but he has suffered dreadfully at the hands of humans and my heart breaks that we cannot undo that for him.

Sleep easy little one, I hope you felt love in the last few days 💔💔💔

Tonight we had this tiny boy brought into our care 💔 He was found last night having been found as a stray in a residential street, I think we can safely assume dumped. He went straight to the vet for his incisors burring to make him more comfortable and better able to eat, unfortunately the extent of the curl on the upper incisors mean that it hasn’t made a huge amount of difference to him. He still can’t eat independently, he is absolutely starving. He’s severely dehydrated, dreadfully underweight, his teeth are a mess, there is a suspicious jaw lump present and despite his initial enthusiasm at his assist feeds, he’s exhausted & has given up.

My heart breaks for him & I genuinely don’t hold out a huge amount of hope for him. But of course we’ll do absolutely everything possible to save him.

Huge thanks to his finders for getting him safe and the Bunny Angels🐰volunteers who dropped everything to get him to us. It really does take a village.

Did you know that ALL rabbits need neutering? 🐰

We receive the same message day in, day out from people who have done no research prior to bringing rabbits into their homes, don’t neuter them and then decide they can’t manage their ‘problem, aggressive’ pet when they hit adulthood and start behaving like a typically un neutered rabbit. The majority of them are not having their needs met - living in hutches, not vaccinated, no companionship, no enrichment, poor diet. Quite how do we expect these miserable, frustrated rabbits to be cuddly, happy, enjoyable animals to live alongside? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Neutering is an incredibly low risk, routine procedure when carried out by a rabbit savvy vet and is vital to a rabbits welbeing. As well as eradicating hormonal behaviour, it prevents the inevitable development of uterine cancer and allows our companions to live a happier, more contented life.

The chances are that everyone following us will already know the above, so how about sharing it in local pages and none-rabbit focussed groups to try to reach as many people as we possibly can to try and improve rabbit welfare. We are always happy to offer advice, just drop a message.

Enrichment is the spice of life for our piggie friends!

There are some features we see as necessary for piggie enclosures to ensure they’re mentally stimulated and comfortable:

Multiple hides! You should have at least one hide per piggie, ideally multiple exit where possible. Hides can be plastic pigloo type hides, soft fleecy hides or wooden hides!

A huge pile of hay! There is little more that’s exciting to our piggie friends than pottering around and hiding in a huge bundles of hay! We’d recommend a couple of these.

Tunnels! Tunnels are so much fun - plastic get dirty very quickly but you can clean, ideally fleecy tunnels are kinder on feet and you can clean them regularly.

Chewable enrichment is a whole lot of fun too - from forage to willow and hyacinth items, seagrass or apple branches! It’s fun for piggies to be able to play with a lot of the same toys we give to our rabbit friends.

Despite drastically reducing our numbers and halting intakes entirely, we’ve still managed to spend over £2,480 on our vet bills in less than two weeks 😟 Buddy had another dental last week and we’re hopeful at his next recheck that he’s signed off for rehoming as pending bonding he has a wonderful family waiting for him 🤞🏼❤️

Rescue centres are NOT your immediate solution for your choices. Your pets are YOUR responsibility.

I receive on average 3 messages per day that are surrender requests. I also ask the same questions to each message in order to access the situation and the urgency.

90% of the time it’s “kids lost interest”, “I’m moving house” or “I don’t have the time for them. And almost every time, these rabbits are not neutered or vaccinated. Now instantly that is a £200-£250 cost for the rescue for neutering and vaccinations alone!

A cost that shouldn’t be a rescues responsibility if these people were responsible pet owners.

Yes it’s our choice to run a rescue, however that title does not mean that we have an unlimited amount of space or money.

Rescues do not deserve the abuse we receive when we cannot immediately accommodate YOUR pet. Be kind!

Unfortunately Pips CT came back mostly inconclusive, as although the vet that scanned her is an exotics vet that carries out hundreds of CTs (Pips was the fifth she’d done that day), what showed up she hadn’t seen before. Of course - because this is Staffs rescue & we deal only in the obscure! The potential findings also don’t correlate with her blood results. This means an additional cost of just under £600 to send them off. It did also show that her bladder is in the wrong place (not a major concern as it’s causing her no issues and is an incidental finding), but also that if we do manage to stabilise her she will require both ears operating on as she has bilateral ear disease. So all in all, we have an expensive bun on our hands 😟 Pip continues to fight through each day and we’ll be with her every step of the way. She has already defied the odds as if you’d asked either myself or Adele a few weeks ago if she’d still be here now, I think we’d have agreed a resounding no. Pip says a huge thanks for all your unwavering support & we’ll update in due course hopefully with some answers and a plan in place to save our little fluffy girl.

Gertie is looking for a forever home. She is, undoubtedly, one of the best pigs in the world. Ten pigs personalities worth squished up into this pint size poppet & she would be going nowhere if I had my way, but negotiations with Jingle were unsuccessful and so I’m having to part with her. Confident, characterful, all the sass - Gertie is looking for a home with a neutered boar or/and another sow or two. 5 x 2 min c and c indoor home please.
