Thank you for all the birthday wishes...I took a few hours out this year to do a whitewater rafting trip and what fun!!
So many of my dear, life friends, have been wondering why I haven't been present the last few years...I have been working full time but I have also become very dedicated to animals in need here in south GA.....here is the short version....
Beginning April 1, 2020, a friend and I started taking in kittens and trapping the moms and dads and getting them fixed. This was during Covid so it was difficult to find homes...about 11 months later, the City of Dawson approached us to start a Rescue and formalize our program because there was such a great need in the community. I won't delve deeply into the details but we've taken in more than 225 kittens since 4/1/2020. We've had some amazing adoptions, we've had some amazing volunteers, we have some amazing veterinary partners, and we are now partnering with Pet Supplies Plus in Albany, GA for monthly adoption events and kittens and cats on site for adoption. While we've been partnering with PetFinder, we have also had an equal number of amazing adoptions through PSS Albany thanks to Gabi and her wonderful team.
Our funding has come primarily through merchandise donations then we stage sales to raise the money. A huge thank you to Charlotte Daniel and her clients, my sister Lareca and her friends, and my cousin Deirdre and her vendors, for donating their merchandise to our cause...not only did they donate merchandise but they passed our info onto friends and we've had at least 6 adoptions to their friends.
We have never made a public request for donations but we are at a point that I have to make that request. We are at a point where we are so busy nursing kittens back to health that we don't have enough time to fundraise. The infections this year have been resistant to the broad spectrum antibiotics so our veterinarian bills are higher than budgeted. We also had a special case come in...Emma, she's precious and has a loving, friendly personality but has had some difficulties healing from her eye enucleation....if all of the South GA folks receiving this message could donate $10, we could probably help another 20 kittens find homes.
If you can help, please call Companion Animal Hospital and let them know that you'd like to contribute to Kittens2Love and Emma...229-888-7181
Thank You!
