Do you fear that your large dog will not accept a small puppy when it enters your residence? When integrating big dogs and small dogs, we conduct pack walks. We take baby steps to ensure harmony in our household. As a professional dog trainer, I introduce my dog to the puppy to assess their compatibility. The first two puppies exhibited distress or became independent, walking away. The third puppy remained with us and became Gouyen, my second Service Dog. I've been fortunate to have her in my life, where she assists me with fearful puppies and teaches them how to play and have fun. 🐕‍🦺 Contact us at blazingdogs.com. If you want help with either making sure you pick the right puppy for your household and your other dog that’s in this household or help you mingle the two dogs if you already have a puppy safely.

I would like to say thank you to Jeff Shagren, Dave Tuff and Bert Broxson for being my extended family and not treating me like a girl but, treating me like one of the guys. I love you guys for that so thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have learned woodwork to electrical and AC units and why they do the strange things, to always do it right the first time so you don’t waste your time or your coworkers trying to redo the work that was done. The work that took to get this microwave up from running the power and making an outlet to cutting the wood to hide the ducking. Then the cutting the correct size hole to put the boot vent in. You guys are the best and I am glad you let me learn from you all.

The face of your dog when your puppy knows the trainer is working with them, versus the face when you try to do the same thing your trainer just did, is truly a comedy special waiting to happen, showcasing the power of trust and effective training. I love these two pictures, and they fit perfectly. They capture the dogs I train and how they look when their owners try to do some training on their own at times. Dusty the puppy.

You have a young puppy that hasn't received its vaccinations yet, prompting you to wait until it's fully vaccinated before taking it out. However, there are alternative methods for safely taking your puppy out without carrying it. Protecting it from people that approach and pet your puppy without your permission. While it's becoming accustomed to its environment can be overwhelming. Will you wait until your puppy is 4 to 5 months old, when the critical imprinting stage has passed, or take your puppy out safely to help it become acclimated to the environment and develop into a well-balanced puppy? For more information, please contact us at blazingdogs.com, submit an inquiry, and we will respond as soon as possible. Have you know there is backpacks that are made for dogs and there’s strollers that could keep the front end covered from prying hands.

We frequently discuss the benefits of scent work or article tracking for reactive or overwhelmed dogs, as it provides them with a job and taps into their natural instincts, yielding a sense of satisfaction. Indeed, during the search, one often observes a dog settle, focus, and shift from scanning the environment to engaging their sense of smell.
However, we rarely discuss the aftermath of scent work. Scent work not only calms dogs in the moment but also alters their emotional state post-activity. When a dog engages in sniffing, problem-solving, and purposeful mental stimulation, several outcomes occur: their breathing slows, their body relaxes, their arousal decreases to a manageable level, their brain transitions from reactive to thoughtful, and they retain this decompressed state thereafter. This phenomenon is not attributable to the 'magic' of scent work; rather, it is a result of the dog entering a behavioral pattern that fosters stability. Activities such as sniffing, tracking, trailing, and searching prompt the dog to enter a more regulated state, which can persist long after the session concludes. Consequently, some dogs appear calmer for the remainder of the day, exhibiting reduced jumpiness or reactivity and coping more effectively with triggers. The benefits extend beyond the activity itself, as the after-effects of utilizing the part of their brain designed for this task are profound. Our Scent Support program delves deeper into this concept, catering to dogs requiring additional emotional regulation, confidence-building, and guidance on navigating the world more comfortably. If you want to learn how to integrate this approach into your obedience training or every day training, please contact me. blazingdogs.com.

It is essential to prepare your dog for the arrival of a baby, regardless of the breed. Always supervise interactions between your baby and dog, and protect your dog from your baby. Since babies are unaware of boundaries, it is crucial to ensure their interactions are safe. Typically, we separate the baby to a different area for playtime. Baby gates allow them to interact while providing a safe barrier. When the dog appears tired of the baby, we calmly remove the dog for downtime. If your dog is crate-trained, the crate serves as a safe zone. Ensure the baby does not enter this area, as it is the dog’s designated space to retreat from the chaos of having a child. A recent training session with a mother and baby resulted in successful coexistence, achieved through gradual, baby-step training. They now have their baby and dog together harmoniously. Consider consulting a professional trainer experienced in introducing a new baby to a household with a dog, especially when the baby begins to walk. Protecting the dog is vital, such as calmly removing the dog to a safe area when the baby is in a walker, ensuring the baby cannot follow. Did you wanna work with your dog and your child contact us at blazingdogs.com fill out the inquiry. Let’s make an appointment for your evaluation and training. Let’s get bonding with our dogs.

On a Tuesday afternoon, I had the pleasure of providing expert assistance to a lovely lady who owns a 3-year-old, 105-pound German Shepherd named Boxen, whose behavior had become unmanageable for the owner following the passing of her late husband, who previously handled the dog. Several issues were identified regarding Boxen, including his inability to walk properly on the leash without pulling and his lack of basic obedience. We implemented equipment changes better suited for the dog and the owner. Through the strategic application of verbal cues and body movement, his owner is now able to walk this impressive-looking dog, who can loosely walk with mild distractions as they change locations. All training was accomplished with patience, duration, and ongoing training. If you would like to learn more about our training, please contact us at blazingdogs.com to schedule your evaluation and training.

Do you have a small dog and doubt its trainability? Let me assure you, this notion is incorrect. As long as you don't constantly carry your dog and treat it like an accessory, it can walk, listen, and demonstrate high intelligence, provided you offer the necessary training and enrichment. Contact us at blazingdogs.com and let’s get started on training your little dog. Just like Darcie and Rowdy, which are advancing in their training, I’m proud of both dogs and their owner, who constantly trains and plays with her two dogs. Keep up the great work.
