During this time of year, as leaves fall, your dog will exhibit increased curiosity about them. While it may seem like they simply want to play, consider the numerous creatures above the tree line that have traversed these leaves, as well as the various animals that have walked upon them on the ground. This presents an excellent opportunity for you to desensitize your dog to the scent of these creatures by allowing them to investigate. Count to a predetermined number, then say 'let's go.' Mindful thinking. Sometimes our service dogs get attacked by fake service dogs or dogs on the road while we're walking them for exercise to maintain a healthy weight for their breed. These attacks can lead to defensive reactivity, and you should put your service dog back into training and work on rebuilding trust so they can accompany you into stores and the community without being attacked. Consider contacting someone to retest you and your dog with a Canine Good Citizen test to ensure you're both still qualified to be a service dog team. If not, get a professional trainer to help you address these issues and retest later. Sometimes, we're unable to rehabilitate our dogs and have to retire them early. As dog trainers, we do our best to prevent early retirement, but if you don't do your part and help your service dog with training again, that's on you, not the trainer. Despite his high tolerance for pain, Freeway suffered constantly, occasionally yelping, which I mistakenly attributed to playful behavior, unaware that he had three fractures and a remodeling back ankle, as well as nerve damage. These vets didn’t disclose this information, forcing me to seek a second opinion. I was angry, and rightfully so, as anger is a natural part of the grieving process. My anger was directed at the previous owners who abandoned Freeway on the freeway and the veterinarians who failed to properly examine him. However, I am grateful for the second veterinarian who provided a thorough examination, x-rays, and testing, giving me the truth about Freeway’s condition. His death was a freak accident, and I am still coming to terms with the loss. The day of his passing, I allowed him to play with a familiar puppy, and while some may assign blame, they do not know the full story. Freeway was a blessed dog, surviving the incredible ordeal of being on I-5 and thrust into the media spotlight. He had a profound impact on the reactive dogs in my care, transforming them through play. I miss my beloved boy dearly, but I am thankful for my friend’s unwavering support and guidance as a grief counselor. She reminded me that it’s okay to feel angry, to scream, yell, and cry, for Freeway lived life to the fullest, never stopping, and his memory will continue to inspire me.

People often assume that dogs are always aware of their four paws. However, this is not always the case, as sometimes they appear to forget they have hindquarters. This is evident in the way they hop up stairs with a rabbit-like gait. While they can place their two front feet on a low car, they struggle to get their hindquarters in, requiring assistance to lift them up. It is essential to note that this is not always the case, particularly if the dog has suffered back or leg injuries. To address this issue, I created a custom solution using stool legs purchased from Home Depot. With only three legs, I was able to craft a simple device. Observing Hotah, it is clear that his front legs move minimally, while he uses his hindquarters to adjust positions as requested
