Feathers all over your coop is usually a dead give away that your ducks are molting. Like chickens, ducks molt too, but their molting process is a bit different than that of a chicken. Instead of just an annual molt, ducks can lose their feathers several times throughout the year depending on the age and gender of the duck. The pattern of the mold depends on the type of molt it is. There are several types of duck molts:
* Female spring/summer molt
* Juvenile molt
* Nuptial molt
* Eclipse molt
* Simultaneous wing molt

It is the end of the school year. Before breaking for summer, a first grade class in Massachusetts incubated and hatched their fertilized duck eggs from Nicholas backyard. 13 out of 14 eggs hatched. That is a 93% hatch rate! Here are the children reading stories to their newly hatched ducklings. Success and cuteness all wrapped into one ❣
