Currently open to any food donations of “dry” kitten biscuits or spikes hedgehog food.

Hi everyone, just a little food update after a number of people asking. The Tesco kitten food has changed it’s formula (and box) and the hogs do not like it nearly as much. I wanted to share with you the benefit of my research for your own garden hogs. So many people have visiting hogs that loved the old Tesco formula.😂

After trying a few new brands I have found the new favourite, VERY similar to the old Tesco food. Thanks to Mary Lennon (Mary your hog picnic loves this!)

So if anyone is ever wanting to donate etc, the very very picky hogs love the below food!

Hello. Can anybody bring some newspapers around this evening or tomorrow? Need them in an emergency situation I wasn’t expecting.

18/07/2022

Please share.

Please can everybody put bowls of shallow water out for wildlife and hedgehogs. Not deep as risk of drowning. Just shallow ideally pottery bowls so they can’t be easily tipped up.

15/04/2022

It’s always a bit sad, but overall happy when they go back to the wild. Blue re is picnic waiting for her finder to collect her and set her free - good luck darling picnic x

We currently not able to take in any hedgehogs. If you need help with a poorly hedgehog. These are your
Options

🚨Withington hedgehog hospital
🚨Lowe moss woood in knutsfod - AMAZING AND MY 1st choice
🚨Irlam clinic
🚨Hulse towers hedgehog refuge in Wythenshawe
🚨Wirral hedgehog hospital.

And if all of these are exhausted you can then take the hedgehog to your local vet.

If you have hedgehogs visiting please put out regular bowls of shallow water and kitten biscuits. If you can manage it Google hedgehog feeding station if you can make one that would be most useful. it’s basically a plastic box with a hole in one end. So easy to make.

we will still continue to look after hedgehogs on a small scale as we always have done and will update you all when we have availability for More hogs.

I am of course more than happy for you to message me for advice any time of day or night.

Thanks x

Such beautiful wild animals - love them so much ❤️ 🦔❤️

Quick video of picnic who has been with us over winter. Came to us very small and VERY poorly. Now looking great and is getting ready to go back home and back to the wild.

Last week I released my lovely Rupert Hog (who came to me literally in the worst state) into a large enclosed area desperate to Hetty hog. is he is doing amazing also! Rupert Hog will be released back to the wild from my house because he is unable to go back to his home. but at least I know that he’ll alway have a few warm dry homes to choose from and lots of food available ❤️

10/03/2022

Mary Lennon it’s time to start thinking about picnic coming home to your garden! ❤️

02/03/2022

Hello there just to let everybody know Hetty has woken up from her hibernation which means other hedgehogs might be waking up from their hibernation. Hungry and thin. Little reminder please can everybody put food out for the hedgehogs if they don’t already have it out ❤️❤️

Spread the word!!

26/01/2022

Fine for newspapers now. No more needed.

Thanks to those that dropped them x

09/12/2021

Well picnic is now almost 700g. Considering whether to try to get her off into supervised hibernation. Mary Lennon

29/01/2020

Bertie. He is thriving in every way, gaining weight, but the injury to his nose is taking so long to heal up. His nasal congestion makes him such a squeaky little hoglet 🙃 🦔❤️🦔

23/01/2020

Well we have two special hoggies going to foster homes tomorrow. I am feeling so happy for them going to their caring new homes until they are released in the spring. I will miss them so much.

Biscuit update!

I can confirm I have a method! Biscuit’s cream has been deployed to the affected area!

Where there is a will, there is a way!

This is just another video of him being grumpy yesterday. Can’t blame him. 🦔

10/01/2020

So handsome ❤️

09/01/2020

Gillian Thankyou so much for wet food and the vetecryn spray which is being used for treating biscuit currently. 🦔❤️🦔

09/01/2020

So biscuit and I have just returned from the vet, 💸💸.

This is me trying to do the almost impossible task of administering his topical medication to his ear and upper eye area. He does not like his face being touched at all. Most of the costly ointment has ended up on the mat he is sat on and in his spines 😫😅

I had to abandon the operation in the end because I didn’t want to stress him. Need to put my thinking cap on!

It’s so cute the way he seems to turn around for me. But when he realises it’s more cream he isn’t having any of it! 🦔

09/01/2020

A big, huge Thankyou to all those that helped towards the purchase of our microscope. Which is now here and doing it’s job! We were able to diagnose a long-standing resident Ollie with fluke and he has been treated and is gaining weight nicely.

One life saved ✅

THANKYOU

We recently estimated the self funded running costs of looking after these vulnerable animals.

Monthly usage -
Blue roll x 6 £10
Food 252 meals a month £50
Dry biscuits - £12.56
Gloves and needles and syringes £17
Antiseptic sprays £ 4.30
disinfectant - £8
Bedding and puppy pads £17
F10 spray - £41.46
Puppy mousse - £42

Total “current” cost not including gas and electric, meds, petrol used is around £200 a month.

I have just spent £40 on medication which varies month on month.

(Any ideas on ways to raise funds very welcome)

So the donations literally make it possible for me to care and nurse these beautiful animals

Thankyou for the hogs and I ###

How to stop cats, dogs and foxes stealing the hedgehogs food | The Hedgehog

Shared from Pricklingtin Palace

Please keep feeding the hedgehogs all winter 🦔❤️🦔

I had a call last night about a hog out on someone’s doorstep. As it turned out it was a healthy ( but hungry) hog weighing 800g. The lady had stopped her regular feeding as she was sure all hogs would be hibernating now. That acted as an excellent cue to remind everyone to please keep feeding our prickly friends who are rather confused by the mild weather. They really need the help as there is so little (healthy) natural food available to them. If you are concerned about cats taking the food you can make a very in expensive feeding station https://thehedgehog.co.uk/feeding-hedgehogs/how-to-stop-cats-dogs-and-foxes-stealing-the-hedgehogs-food/

Stop Cats or Foxes stealing the hedgehog's food. Keeping the food under a platform or ridge tile will help to prevent other animals like Dogs, Cats or Foxes stealing the hedgehog's food. Bui

Another chomping vid because why not.

01/01/2020

Here is baby Ella. Her nose and foot are still healing and it’s a long process. She has gained lots of weight though following her treatment for intestinal fluke.

Without rescue this hog would have died and I wanted to say thanks to all those that donated items and therefore have helped me with the large cost of caring for her and all the others 🦔❤️🦔

01/01/2020

Tinsel. Always the first out for his breakfast.

01/01/2020

24/12/2019

Baby Ella has lost weight 😞
She has developed Fluke, so treatment started for that (Droncit always on the amazon wish list 🤗)

Please please if you can, leave food out all through winter for the hedgehogs, especially the small ones Tant will need it desperately.

20/12/2019

I am so so happy! I’ve been struggling to get baby Ella to eat for the last 48 hours, the relief that she has started to eat now she is in the ICU. PHEW!!!!

I’m to scared to go near her and take a picture in case she stops eating. I watch her from afar, little munching noises so cute!

I’m afraid I’m a bit under the weather again, but care for the hogs must continue. Here is our smallest patient, she is currently in the ICU unit (Sue how can I say Thankyou again? Quite easily!!) . I have been hand feeding her because of her nose injury and her age she is finding it hard to smell the food and hard to eat. However since she has been in the incubator she has eaten more food Independently! 😊

19/12/2019

Big big big thanks for the donations that have arrived this week. Blue roll, food, bowls, F10 spray, all so needed, as soon as I purchase these things myself they run out so fast and it’s a cycle that continues! The fact is that this is all self funded and these types of donations make it all so much less of a struggle so Thankyou once again 🦔❤️🦔

19/12/2019

And here is my little darling Oliver, watch to the end to see him toddle back to his teapot bed!

Oliver has completed a course of antibiotics for infection, and loss of a hind toe 😞 and he has tolerated treatment for a skin condition. He has gained 175g since he arrived with me and I am so proud of him. Weighing in at 400g today 🦔❤️🦔

19/12/2019

Here is a happy little video of tinsel my peg legged patient. He is so greedy! Currently tolerating treatment for lung worm and serious trauma to his hind leg. Daily wound care for this fella!

17/12/2019

Up extra early this morning checking on new admission Ella. First success she made it through the night, she was so cold last night, and on inspection this morning she is lovely and warm thanks to her (donated 😍) heat pad.

She has an injury to her nose, looks like she has lost the very tip 🙁 she also has some infection to her foot. Will do more investigating today and update you all on her soon. Another local hog rescued and thank god as there was a rather heavy frost overnight. ❤️🦔❤️
