One of our deliveries at the weekend was to the Mallacoota Wildlife Rescue where we met this little guy. The delivery comprised of wildlife pouches made by Kylie Eerhard and others, bedding, specialised food purchased with money donated, and medical supplies. Included were the lovely parcels received from Barbara Wilkinson in Watford, UK, and Sharon Flynn and the wonderful township of Chipperfield in the UK.
Huge thank you to you all!

Driving just out of Sarsfield.
Out of respect for the people living there I refrained from filming through the township itself as half of it is, quite literally, burnt to the ground.

Please forgive our recent lack of updates - we have been dealing with some things behind the scenes instead.
This is Lynne making a delivery run in the truck whose hire was donated to us by Budget Rentals with trusty co-pilot Billy. Bill has a funny tendency to try to go via pet stores...

We need this now, not next week or next month!
We are facing a possible mass extinction event when it comes to our native wildlife and everything that can be done to prevent it should be done!

Australia's national veterinary association and Animals Australia are calling on the Victorian Government to begin airdropping food into fire-affected areas.

We were also fortunate enough to have a decent load of wildlife supplies in this trip. Some goods were donated however much of it was purchased by us with the money people have been giving as well.
The big 20kg bags on the forklift are roo pellets, the 3 leaning against it are formula for orphaned natives (there is also a box full of marsupial teats), and there is also plenty of seed etc for the birds.

We were very fortunate to have the use of this truck donated to us for this last supply run. Huge thanks go to Simone from Budget Traralgon for organising and arranging for us to pick it up in Warragul. Without the help of people like you and the local businesses we would be so much more limited in what we can do. None of the money that has been donated is used by us for transport or fuel for the vehicles - we pay for that ourselves as it would not feel right.

Thursday night we loaded up our truck after Fi finished work in preparation for an early start on Friday. In this load we had mostly cat and dog food, cat litter, wildlife food and supplies, plus assorted cages.
Thanks to the ever generous community, both Drouin Vet Clinic and Moe Veterinary Centre had received a large number of donations for us.

It's been a busy week which started off with a phone call from a lovely lady named Kylie Bryant. She was contacting us on behalf of some friends in the UK who had collected up a large amount of medical supplies and was wondering if we could make use of them. Of course I said yes so she put me in touch with Sharon Flynn over there who, in conjunction with her brother Darren, posted out this large collection of bandaging materials and wildlife pouches.
Other people to thank are Jackie Seager, Amanda Broome and Emily Flynn.

Over the weekend we were donated free use of a large self storage unit to help us cope with the amazing amount of donated goods coming in.
Thank you so much to the lovely owner of Harrison Self Storage in Drouin. You have helped immensely! Work was bulging at the seams. 😃

Some excellent advice.

Some excellent advice.

Helpful Do's & Don'ts for feeding wildlife & animals that especially need a helping hand. While not usually recommended, drought & catastrophic fires are calling for different action when it comes to caring our precious wildife.

We are in contact with the equine disaster relief specialist and sent a load of hay, feed, cotton rugs etc to them last Weds. Cotton rugs are important for burns victims as they help the prevent the dehydration that comes with burns and they impede healing the least.
Sadly the reality of the situation in the area is that very few horses are surviving. Access is extremely difficult so many have died before help can get to them. Of those still alive many are succumbing to massive infection of their wounds, and those who not injured have been so traumatised by the experience they have to be euthanised.

Some of what was delivered last Monday.
We had planned another run for Friday 10 Jan however weather conditions conspired to prevent us getting in. On Thursday all of Bairnsdale was advised to leave if they could in anticipation of extreme fire risk again.

Some of the team at Animal Aid Bairnsdale unloading our first run in there on Monday 6 Jan.
Yes, it was raining a very slight amount there that day but sadly only enough to be a hindrance and no real help at all to anyone.

The local Nine News got wind of what we were doing early on and Lynne found herself on camera. :)

Gippsland Animal Disaster Relief

Two friends trying make a difference for animals and pet owners caught up in the East Gippsland fires. Together, with the assistance of our wonderful contacts, we have the ability to get supplies into some of the worst affected areas.

What started out as trying to help just a few has blossomed into a large disaster relief effort for pets, wildlife, and even to some extent horses. None of this would have been possible without the amazing generosity of the public and both Drouin Veterinary Clinic and Moe Veterinary Centre for volunteering to be collection points for donations and goods.
