Did you know today is World Pet Memorial Day?🤍

Nashville Humane Association and Paws to Remember - Nashville will host a pet memorial ceremony this Saturday, June 15th at 10 AM in observance of World Pet Memorial Day. This free event will take place at NHA (213 Oceola Ave) and is open to the public.

This special event will feature a brief ceremony honoring the lives of those pets we have loved and lost, and will provide attendees with a chance to honor their beloved pets at the Nashville Humane Association’s Rainbow Bridge Memorial. We hope you decide to attend and celebrate the lives of those companions who have had a lasting impact on your heart.🤍

Received word that sweet Ivan has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving a mastiff-sized hole in my heart and in the hearts of the many who lovingly cared for this special creature. May he run free 🌈❤️

I was so honored to join Traci Arieli with Comforting Closure to discuss grief over the loss of a pet. As someone who is currently grieving the loss of a beloved dog, and someone who actively works in pet bereavement, I certainly understand how painful, isolating, and disorienting the process can be. My heart goes out to anyone who has loved and lost❤️

To live in this world

you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it

against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it
go,
to let it go.

I’ve gotten more than one quizzical look when someone finds out that I officiate pet memorial services. One common reaction I hear is this:

Anyone who has loved a pet has had their heart broken by one, too. Grief can be a complicated and lonely experience, and there is comfort in connecting with people who understand what you are going through.

In partnership with Paws to Remember - Nashville, we are glad to offer a Pet Grief Support group that meets here at Nashville Humane Association monthly. These meetings provide a safe space to find the support you need when you’ve experienced the loss of a beloved pet. Sessions are free and led by Paws To Remember owner and founder and Pet Bereavement Counselor Maryglenn Warnock, whose knowledge, guidance, and kindness provide a haven of understanding.

The next Pet Loss Support Group will meet next Sunday, February 19th, from 10-11:30am. We will put info in comments how you may reserve your seat to attend.

In counseling bereaved pet owners, one topic that almost always comes up is when (or if) to get another pet. When is the right time?

I am absolutely honored and thrilled to be presenting to the international Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Association today on the topic of Disenfranchised Grief: Moving Beyond “just a pet” and filling a crucial need for pet owners. I do this work because I know I am not the only person who has struggled with the loss of a beloved companion animal. ❤️❤️❤️🌈🌈🌈
