It’s been a hell of a year.

A week ago Jeff’s (Salem’s new name) bestie, her chief chaos coordinator, and my first bull terrier, Peppa's Rally - Adopted, passed unexpectedly. We left the house and she was fine, and we came home and she was gone. Jeff was by her side as usual when we got home.

We’ve lost all of our original bullies in less than 6 months. Both were young. It’s still hard to process and hard to believe. Being home is different. Luckily we adopted a dog from the shelter a bit ago, so it hasn’t been empty, but it is not the same.

Jeff got the talk from her aunt Kasi that she has to stick around because none of us can take anymore. Right now, we’re all just trying to grieve and heal. The bridge got an angel, and a handful.

It’s been a year, and I’ve been able to hold this specific text over his head this whole time. And will. Probably forever.

Salem, now Jefferson Mae, (Jeff for short), was a stray at our local shelter. My friend, her favorite aunt Kasi, was leaving that day to go on her honeymoon (to Salem…get it?!? 😂). She ran to the shelter to dog test her before she left, since Jeff could stay here, but I also had 2 of her dogs to babysit that week, plus my 3 at the time. She asked me to watch her just until she got back and she would take her to foster.

So. I text my boyfriend. And said if she doesn’t get picked up during stray hold, she may be coming to the house. He was mad, as you can tell. Our house is small. 6 dogs is a lot. But, I promised him Kasi is going to foster when she gets back. And he reluctantly agreed.

So, Tuesday came and no one claimed her. I had a busy day at work so I had to have him pick her up at the shelter. He got her, got her in the car, and within 10 minutes he calls me and says, “This is my dog now”.

So. I got my way, and I get to rub it into his face pretty often. 🤷‍♀️

It was a win for all of us. 😂

She is the sweetest and you can’t convince me otherwise. 💚

The other day Salem (now Jeff) was playing with something in the yard. I told her to come on, and she did. However her sister Peppa did not and she got a mole.

I called my dad, cause I was not prepared for this situation, and Peppa came over when he got there, but there was no mole. We were convinced Peppa was a mole killer and eater.

We were wrong. She’s still a killer, but Jeff brought the body inside today.

Go team I guess?

How we learned: Mom thought she lost a dog for 20 minutes and almost had a heart attack.
