Successful first ride. This is all I ask on the first ride just some soft movement and flexion. Helps them relax especially with this guy who got really anxious under saddle . No need to over stress with a lot of forward movement when it can be done another time!

Horsemanship is supposed to be fun. The partnership between a 900-1200 lb animal and me is a glorious happening. It’s not meant to be a fight.

“You feel of them, you feel for them, and then you both feel together.”— Ray Hunt

These stages of horsemanship are like a serious relationship between a man and woman.

—-Feel of them(dating stage)
This stage is all about gaining knowledge of the other individual and them getting to know you.

—-Feel for them(engagement stage)

In this stage of the relationship, we begin to have expectations of each other. We know each other, now it’s time to begin working at our middle ground and expectation in the relationship and partnership.

—-Both feel together(Marriage stage)
This is where you both become one in harmony. This is not a stage where you should be fighting often at all, contrary to popular belief of marriage. Scuffles will happen here and there , but finding that middle ground should have happened in the above stage. This is the stage everything comes together and you have built the bond and partnership you need.

Yes these stages apply both to human relationships and horses. With the horse, these stages could take up to a year or less then 5-10 minutes based on skill, knowledge , and experience. With people, with God at the center these stages should be meticulously prayed over and guided by his hand.
