This year, ROAR is celebrating its 25th Anniversary! Throughout 2025, we will be sharing stories about some of our most memorable guests...Here is Rory’s story:

Rory was found chained to a tree on a scorching summer day with an empty water bowl. Concerned neighbors contacted Animal Control because Rory was being kept like this 24/7, and understandably, he was barking non-stop. When Animal Control discovered Rory in this condition, they gave his owners two choices: surrender Rory or face fines. This did not happen in some faraway state, a distant town, a desolate backcountry road, or a rundown city. It happened right here in Ridgefield, CT, about 20 years ago. Thankfully, this poor, neglected dog was given a second chance when ROAR took him in as its first rescued Pitbull.

Under ROAR’s care, Rory received medical attention, food, water, and shelter. After some time at ROAR and educating the public about Pitbulls, Rory was adopted by a wonderful man with a young son. The gentleman brought his son and fiancée to meet Rory and spent time with him for three weekends. It went so well that they adopted him. Rory became such a loved, integral part of his new family that he even walked down the aisle at the couple's wedding beside the young son. Later, the couple had a baby whom Rory watched over like any good big brother would.

Just like Rory, while ROAR’s cats and dogs transition from their homeless state to your family’s home, they live with us. During their stay, we provide for their four basic needs: love from our staff and volunteers, food, shelter, and medical care. While the love is free, the expenses for the remaining three basic needs continue to rise.

Denahi is the doppelgänger pup from Georgia with a name as adventurous as Alaska! As one of five siblings who all look alike, Denahi’s secret weapon is his extra dose of cuddles and charm to stand out in the pack. 🤗

Last August, Huxley, formerly known as Dr. Pepper, was rescued in Georgia along with his two brothers, and came to ROAR in search of their forever families. ♥️

Now happily thriving in a forever home, it's time to "Raise the Woof" because Huxley will be competing in the cutest competition of the year, Animal Planet's annual Puppy Bowl next Sunday! 🏈

After losing her beloved owner, she needed a little time to adjust to the shelter, but she has blossomed into a sweetheart who adores gentle pats and rubs.
