The importance of the dorso-palmar balance can not be overstated. That isn't to say that we should remove the thickest section of hoof wall (the toe). Rather, a proper trim should maintain the integrity of the hoof wall as well as bring the hoof into balance. If that cannot be accomplished with the trim alone, we enlist the help of the steel to take away any remaining leverage.
Can't wait to come back in 5 weeks to see what the new setup has done to improve the life of this quarter horse mare!
