URGENT! Please share MAC! He needs a hero to save his life m!
PLACED WITH POUND HOUNDS RESCUE - PLEASE HONOR YOUR PLEDGES OR DONATE https://www.poundhoundsresq.org/donate
First we would like to state Mac has won over the volunteers for obvious reasons. Though he arrived skeletal with wounds, he is downright adorable and unique. His face endears the heart effortlessly! While it is clear he has survived hardship, his heart is pure and open. Sadly he contracted "suspected pneumonia" and heartlessly placed on the kill list. Max has allowed all handling, has not displayed resource guarding and often presents with a low wagging tail. This chocolaty marbled delight has a touching video for viewing. He warms up very quickly to people. He has been understandably timid and shaking at times and so deserving of comfort, security and love. As with most dogs, the shelter notes he is defensive around passing dogs while in his kennel which might explain his wounds that are now healing. Sadly he is at the Brooklyn ACC which translates to immediate death unless a foster or adopter rescues him. Please share this flyer to help save him. If you would like to foster or adopt this remarkably special youngster, please message us now, his time is up.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Mac so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 5): Due to Mac's anxiety and leash biting displayed in care, we recommend he goes to an adult-only home.
Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Mac's low threshold for arousal in care, we recommend he is placed with one of our New Hope Partners.
Potential challenges: :
Handling/touch sensitivity,
Fearful,
Bite history (human),
Anxiety,
Leash-biting
Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments::
Handling/touch sensitivity/Fearful: Mac is a bit fearful during his assessment, we recommend he seeks affection on his own terms and is given a quiet home environment to acclimate in. See handout on Decompression Period and Handling/touch sensitivity.
Bite history (human): Mac redirected onto a staff members hand, leaving a red mark and not breaking skin.
Anxiety: Mac appears anxious during his assessment. We recommend long walks and puzzle toys to help alleviate his anxiety. See handout On Generalized Anxiety.
Leash-biting: Mac has started to bite on his leash when being taking out for walks in care. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach him to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash.
Low threshold for arousal: Mac in care has displayed a low threshold for arousal and will need daily mental and physical stimulation and exercise, and force-free, positive reinforcement-based training may help him to learn impulse control and to train desirable behaviors that can be rewarded.
